For a clearer video call, improve the light on your face first, then make small exposure and white-balance adjustments if your webcam allows them. Check focus and framing, review the calling app’s video settings, and investigate network or computer performance if your local camera preview looks good but the video sent to others does not.
Improve the lighting before changing camera settings
Place a soft light in front of you, ideally near eye level, and avoid sitting with a bright window or lamp behind you. A backlight can leave your face dark, while adding light from the front often improves the image without any software changes. Logitech recommends improving lighting conditions for better webcam image quality (Logitech lighting guidance).

If the room is dim, try a room light, daylight, or an existing desk lamp before increasing exposure. Inadequate light can make the camera image look noisy; exposure adjustments cannot restore detail the camera did not capture. A dedicated desk light for video calls is optional—soft light you already have may be enough.

Adjust the webcam’s image controls
Open the webcam’s companion software or your operating system’s camera controls. The available controls vary by model and software, so some settings below may not appear. Logitech’s settings documentation describes exposure, white balance, zoom, and focus as controls available on supported cameras (Logitech webcam settings).
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Crisp HD 720p/30 fps video calls with diagonal 55° field of view and auto light correction. Compatible with popular platforms including Skype and Zoom.
- The built-in noise-reducing mic makes sure your voice comes across clearly up to 1.5 meters away, even if you’re in busy surroundings.
- C270’s RightLight 2 feature adjusts to lighting conditions, producing brighter, contrasted images to help you look good in all your conference calls.
- The adjustable universal clip lets you attach the camera securely to your screen or laptop, or fold the clip and set the webcam on a shelf. You’re always ready for your next video call.
Exposure: brighten a dark image carefully
If your face still looks underexposed after improving the light, raise exposure a little at a time. Stop if bright areas lose detail or your face looks washed out. Logitech recommends a small exposure increase when external lighting is not being used; the control and its effect depend on the camera and software (Logitech exposure guidance).
White balance: correct an obvious color cast
If your face or neutral objects look strongly yellow, blue, or green, try automatic white balance first. If the color still looks visibly wrong and manual white-balance control is available, adjust it in small steps and check the result in the preview. Not every webcam exposes a manual control.

- Auto-Light Balance: RightLight boosts brightness by up to 50%, reducing shadows so you look your best—compared to previous-generation Logitech webcams (1)

Focus and framing: keep the image settled and comfortable
Clean the lens, sit at a steady distance, and give autofocus time to settle if your camera supports it. Autofocus is automatic on supported cameras; a manual focus slider is not universal. If framing or zoom controls are available, show your face comfortably without cropping too tightly. Logitech documents focus and zoom controls for supported webcams (Logitech webcam settings).

Google Meet
Meet’s computer video settings include send and receive resolution, automatic video-lighting adjustment for underexposed video, and framing features. Check the resolution and lighting options available to you in the current meeting settings (Google Meet video settings).
Microsoft Teams
Teams provides a brightness adjustment and a soft-focus effect. These can help with appearance, but they do not replace adequate lighting or fix a poor connection. Check the current camera and video options in Teams support (Microsoft Teams camera settings).

If your preview is clear but other people see poor video
Compare the camera preview on your device with what participants see. If the preview looks good but the outgoing call is blurry, choppy, or low-resolution, investigate the call rather than changing exposure again. Teams call health can report sent frame rate, and Microsoft notes that a low frame rate may reflect computer performance or insufficient hardware resources (Teams call health). Google Meet also identifies network performance as a video-quality diagnostic (Google Meet troubleshooting).

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. When a different light or webcam may help
If the room remains poorly lit, try changing your light source or position before buying anything; an existing lamp or daylight may solve the problem. Consider a USB webcam with manual image controls only if your current camera lacks useful adjustments or still produces an inadequate image after lighting and setup changes. Compare webcams by their exposure and white-balance controls, autofocus behavior and framing, performance in your actual lighting, and compatibility with your computer and calling app—not resolution alone.
