Use Processes to see memory use by the game and other apps, and Performance to check memory use across the system. These built-in views are the clearest way to check RAM use on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Check RAM usage with Task Manager
- Start the game and reach the scene or activity you want to monitor. A reading is only a snapshot of that moment.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. You can also open it from the Start context menu. Microsoft documents both access and Task Manager’s resource-monitoring role in its System configuration tools in Windows guidance.
- Select Processes to find the game and other running applications and review their resource use. Select Performance for the system-level memory view. Microsoft recommends these views for identifying components using high resources in its Windows performance guidance.
What each Task Manager view tells you
| View | Use it to |
|---|---|
| Processes | Locate the game and other apps using resources, including memory use by individual processes. |
| Performance | See memory use at the system level rather than focusing on one app. |
The views answer different questions: Processes helps you identify which applications are using resources; Performance gives the broader system picture. Neither is the same as a persistent, in-game RAM meter.

Can you see RAM use without leaving a full-screen game?
Task Manager is convenient to inspect, but the available Microsoft guidance does not establish that it will remain visible over every game or work the same way in every exclusive-full-screen setup. If you cannot view it while playing, check the reading after switching out of the game; remember that the result reflects the state at that moment.
Do not mistake Game Assist for a memory monitor. Microsoft describes it as an Edge-based Game Bar overlay for web content, such as guides, in its Game Assist FAQ; that source does not describe a RAM meter.
#1 Best Overall
- Boosts System Performance: 32GB DDR5 RAM laptop memory kit (2x16GB) that operates at 5600MHz, 5200MHz, or 4800MHz to improve multitasking and system responsiveness for smoother performance
- Accelerated gaming performance: Every millisecond gained in fast-paced gameplay counts—power through heavy workloads and benefit from versatile downclocking and higher frame rates
- Optimized DDR5 compatibility: Best for 12th Gen Intel Core and AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processors — Intel XMP 3.0 and AMD EXPO also supported on the same RAM module
- Trusted Micron Quality: Backed by 42 years of memory expertise, this DDR5 RAM is rigorously tested at both component and module levels, ensuring top performance and reliability
- ECC Type = Non-ECC, Form Factor = SODIMM, Pin Count = 262-Pin, PC Speed = PC5-44800, Voltage = 1.1V, Rank And Configuration = 1Rx8
What to do if memory use looks high
- Use Processes to identify which apps are using resources, rather than judging the game from the system-wide figure alone.
- Close apps you do not need while gaming, then check again under comparable conditions.
- Do not treat one high reading as proof that RAM is the cause of a performance problem. Microsoft presents resource monitoring as one part of troubleshooting, and notes that older hardware can limit the gains from software adjustments.
There is no universal gaming RAM percentage or amount in the cited guidance that makes usage “too high.” Whether capacity is a constraint depends on the system and what it is running. Consider an upgrade only after confirming a capacity limitation, and check compatibility for your specific PC before choosing memory. Microsoft’s performance guidance does not identify compatible parts for any particular computer.

The Task Manager instructions apply to Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft says Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; this does not change the basic steps for opening Task Manager and reviewing its memory views.
