Check a Darkhold Destiny Arcanum card in this order: identify the exact treatment, inspect surface/corners/edges under controlled light, measure centering on both faces, then screen authenticity against a known genuine card and the product packaging. Do not clean, bend, recolor, trim, or otherwise alter the card while you investigate. Those actions can destroy grading eligibility and evidence.
Magic: The Gathering | Marvel: Darkhold Destiny is scheduled for release on April 9, 2027. Arcanum cards are associated with the official Arcanum Bundle, which includes eight booster packs, full-art Bifrost lands, mechanically unique Arcanum promo cards with exclusive art, one Collector Booster, and a Spindown die. Wizards of the Coast says its product images are digital renderings, so use them to identify the card and treatment—not to judge the final print quality of an individual copy.

Before inspecting: document exactly what you have
Condition and authenticity judgments are only meaningful when you know which version you are examining. Record the card name, collector number, language, finish, border treatment, and source before handling it further.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Card identity: Write down the exact name and collector number. Similar character names, alternate art, and variant frames can look nearly identical in online listings.
- Language: Note the printed language and compare it with the language advertised by the seller.
- Treatment: Mark whether the card is regular, foil, borderless, showcase, or an Arcanum promo. Foil glare and different frame layouts can make the same defect appear differently.
- Source: Record whether it came from a sealed Arcanum Bundle, a regular booster, a Collector Booster, or a secondary-market listing. Keep the receipt, listing URL, seller messages, and photographs.
Use the official Darkhold Destiny product and card-image references to confirm the name, collector number, frame, logo placement, and treatment. Wizards labels those images as digital renderings; a rendering can establish what a card is supposed to depict, but it cannot prove that your printed copy has perfect registration, color, or surface finish.

Set up a safe inspection station
Most damage is easiest to see when the card is clean, dry, and viewed from several angles. Prepare the inspection before removing the card from its sleeve.
Handling checklist
- Wash and dry your hands. Oils and moisture can leave marks on gloss or foil.
- Clear a clean, hard, lint-free surface. Remove grit, sleeves with dust, and loose packaging from the area.
- Handle the card by its edges. Do not press a thumb or fingertip onto the art or text box.
- Use a bright diffuse lamp for overall inspection and a separate low-angle light to reveal scratches, dents, roller lines, print lines, stains, and uneven gloss.
- Use a 5–10× loupe or a phone macro lens for corners, edge fibers, registration errors, and small abrasions.
- Photograph the front, back, all four corners, and any questionable mark before changing how the card is stored.
Keep a foil card flat while you work. Rotate it slowly rather than tilting it sharply; foil glare can hide a line or dent at one angle and exaggerate harmless reflections at another.
Inspect the four condition areas separately
A card can have excellent centering and still be damaged. Evaluate surface, corners, edges, and cut/centering as separate findings, then record the worst issue and its location.
| Area | What to examine | How to verify a suspected defect |
|---|---|---|
| Surface | Scratches, scuffs, dents, indentations, creases, stains, roller or print lines, ink irregularities, and loss of gloss. | Move the card through diffuse and low-angle light. A genuine print line usually follows a consistent direction; a scratch catches light locally and may interrupt the gloss. |
| Corners | Whitening, dings, bends, rounding, compression, or lifted layers on all four corners. | Use macro photography from front and back. A tiny white dot may be factory edge wear or later damage, so compare it with another copy before assigning a cause. |
| Edges | Whitening, chips, fraying, nicks, peeling, rough cuts, or an unnaturally sharp or wavy perimeter. | Trace the entire edge under side light and compare front-to-back color and thickness. An isolated nick differs from a continuous rough cut or an edge that appears trimmed. |
| Cut and centering | Unequal borders, missing border, abnormal edge, or a sliver of another card. | Measure both faces. A missing border or neighboring-card image can indicate a miscut rather than ordinary off-centering. |
Surface defects
Start with the card flat under diffuse light, then use low-angle light. Look for fine scratches in the gloss, circular scuffs from packaging, pressure dents, indentations, stains, and lines running across the card. On foils, move the light source instead of rubbing the surface. A line that appears only as a reflection may be normal foil behavior; one that remains fixed relative to the card and interrupts the surface is more concerning.
Check the ink and gloss across large areas as well as the text box. Look for an abrupt matte patch, uneven color, pinholes, missing ink, or a registration shift that makes letters or symbols look doubled. Photograph a suspected print defect with the card aligned squarely so the issue can be compared with another copy.

Corners
Inspect each corner from the front, back, and side. Whitening can be a small loss of colored coating, while a ding compresses the stock and often creates a shadow or raised edge. A lifted layer, bend, or rounded tip is more consequential than a single speck of white. Do not scrape a corner to determine whether a mark is ink or wear; scraping creates new damage.
Edges
Run your eyes—not your fingernail—around the complete perimeter. Look for chips, fibers, peeling layers, and uneven cuts. Compare the front edge color with the back edge color and check whether the thickness appears uniform. A wavy or unnaturally sharp edge can be a warning sign of trimming, but an ordinary factory cut can also vary slightly. Treat the edge as evidence to compare with a known genuine card, not as proof by itself.

Off-centering means the printed image and borders are shifted within an otherwise normal cut. A miscut is a production-cut error that may show an abnormal outer edge, missing border, or part of a neighboring card. Both can affect grading, but they are not the same defect. Photograph the full front and back, including the outermost edge, before deciding which description fits.
Measure centering consistently
Visual estimates are unreliable when a border is narrow, a frame is asymmetrical, or a foil reflection hides one side. Measure the visible border at its widest comparable points using a transparent ruler with millimeter markings, or use a calibrated image taken square to the card.
Manual calculation
- Measure the left and right border widths on the front. Use the two opposite sides that represent the same border design.
- Divide the smaller measurement by the larger measurement. Express the result as a ratio, such as 55/45.
- Repeat for the top and bottom borders.
- Turn the card over and repeat both measurements on the reverse.
- Record the measurements, lighting conditions, and whether a frame element made one side difficult to define.
For example, if the left border is 5.5 mm and the right is 4.5 mm, the pair is approximately 55/45. Do not average front and back measurements into one number; graders consider each face and direction.

How PSA’s benchmark applies
PSA’s published reference for a PSA 10 is approximately 55/45 centering on the front and 75/25 on the reverse, with grader discretion and overall eye appeal affecting borderline decisions. Those ratios are a grading benchmark, not a Wizards factory specification for Darkhold Destiny. A card inside the ratio can still lose quality for surface, corners, edges, printing, or authenticity, and a card outside it is not automatically counterfeit.

Authenticity is a pattern of consistent evidence. No single visual cue proves a card genuine or fake, especially for a new set whose production variations are not yet fully documented. Wizards notes that counterfeits may differ in gloss or texture and may chip or fray differently from genuine cards.
Compare against a known genuine reference
Use a genuine Magic card from the same era or product family when possible. Compare it under the same light and at the same distance:
- Gloss and texture: Look for a surface that is unusually slick, dull, grainy, or inconsistent with the reference.
- Rosette and print sharpness: Under a loupe, genuine print patterns and fine details should be coherent. Blurry dots, muddy gradients, or coarse edges deserve further review.
- Text and symbols: Compare letter edges, mana symbols, punctuation, and alignment. Repeated halos or doubled edges can indicate poor registration.
- Color balance: Check skin tones, shadows, frame colors, and the black of the text. A different color alone is not conclusive because print runs and lighting vary.
- Opacity and stock: Hold the card near a consistent light source and compare its translucency and feel with the reference. Do not bend it to perform this check.
- Edge construction: Examine the exposed layers and cut quality. Unusual fraying, a different core color, or inconsistent thickness is a reason to pause.
Also inspect the back for logo geometry, color balance, text sharpness, and registration. Compare the card at the same orientation; phone cameras can introduce color shifts and perspective distortion.
Check the seller and provenance
A card with a plausible appearance can still be misrepresented. Review the seller’s photographs, description, transaction history, and wording. Wizards warns that proxy copies are not originals, so treat any listing that uses “proxy,” “custom,” or ambiguous language as a non-original product unless the seller clearly states otherwise. Preserve screenshots because a listing can change after purchase.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Do not use a casual bend test
Wizards describes a bend test for nonfoil Magic cards but explicitly says to use it at your own risk, never on foil cards, and warns that repeated bending eventually damages even genuine cards. A bend can create a crease, stress whitening, or a grading rejection, so it should not be part of routine inspection.
If a high-value card remains doubtful after visual comparison, stop handling it. An experienced dealer or professional authenticator can compare construction, printing, and provenance without asking you to sacrifice the card. Never cut, tear, scrape, wet, heat, or chemically test a suspected counterfeit.
Check sealed Arcanum product for resealing
When the concern is a sealed Arcanum Bundle, booster, or Collector Booster, packaging provenance matters as much as the card inside. Wizards recommends buying from a reputable dealer and checking for factory-sealed plastic, a Wizards of the Coast stamp on booster boxes, and signs that packs were opened and closed again.
Packaging checks
- Inspect shrink-wrap and seals for gaps, lifted edges, excess adhesive, mismatched tension, or plastic that looks cut and rewrapped.
- Look for consistent factory folds and seams rather than a single newly heated area.
- On pack seals, inspect for vertical heat striations. Their absence is not proof of tampering, but unusual or inconsistent seal lines warrant caution.
- Compare fonts, logos, and product labels with official product references. Remember that official images are renderings and may not show every production detail.
- Read auction and marketplace fine print for proxy disclosures, opened-product language, substituted contents, or “sold as-is” terms.
If the box, wrap, or pack looks inconsistent, do not open it merely to investigate. Photograph every side, retain the shipping carton and receipt, and ask the seller for clarification before the platform’s return window closes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhen grading or professional authentication makes sense
Professional grading is most useful when condition, authenticity, or transaction value would materially change your decision. It is less useful for a low-value card whose grading fee and shipping exceed the likely benefit.

Prepare a submission
- Photograph the card front, back, corners, edges, and any defect at full size and in macro view.
- Write down where and when you obtained it, including the seller, receipt, listing, and sealed-product details.
- Record the treatment, language, collector number, and any centering measurements.
- Review the grading service’s current submission rules and no-grade policies before sending the card.
- Use a protective sleeve and rigid holder recommended by the service, and package it so the card cannot move.
PSA evaluates centering, corners, edges, surface, print defects, staining, and authenticity. Its published no-grade reasons include trimming, restoration, recoloring, altered stock, cleaning, questionable authenticity, and minimum-size problems. A card that appears attractive can therefore be rejected if someone has attempted to improve or alter it.
Grade versus sell raw
| Situation | Usually sensible next step |
|---|---|
| Authenticity is uncertain | Seek an experienced dealer or professional authenticator before paying for grading. |
| Card is clearly clean, provenance is strong, and grade would affect value | Photograph and document it, then compare the total grading, insurance, shipping, and selling costs with the expected benefit. |
| Card has cleaning, recoloring, trimming, pressing, or other alteration | Do not submit it expecting a normal grade; disclose the issue and ask the service about eligibility. |
| Card has obvious dents, creases, stains, or edge damage and value is modest | Keeping it raw may avoid fees and transit risk. |
Do not clean, press, recolor, trim, or apply substances before submission. Even an attempt to remove a fingerprint can change the surface and become a restoration or cleaning issue.
What to do if you believe the card is counterfeit
Wizards of the Coast says it does not provide a card-verification service. Its support guidance also says cards sent for analysis will not be returned and that the submitter will not receive a genuine-or-counterfeit determination. Sending the card to Wizards is therefore not a recovery path for a purchase dispute.
- Stop handling the card and place it in a sleeve and rigid holder without altering it.
- Save the original listing, seller profile, messages, invoice, payment record, shipping label, and packaging.
- Photograph the card and packaging in good light, including the collector number, edges, and any suspected defect.
- Contact the seller through the marketplace’s official dispute process before the deadline.
- Report suspected fraud through the platform and the law-enforcement or Internet Fraud Complaint Center channels recommended in Wizards’ support guidance.
- Keep the card and all evidence until the dispute, return, or investigation is resolved. Do not mail it to an unknown party promising informal authentication.
A repeatable inspection worksheet
Use one line for each card so that condition notes do not get mixed between copies.
