Where to find the official state-wise data
Open the GST portal’s monthly data PDF downloads and choose the report for the cutoff you need. The March 2026 report provides the settlement and domestic-collection tables described below. The official taxpayer dashboard user guide is a separate resource; it is not the monthly PDF source used for these public state-level comparisons.

The March 2026 report labels its figures provisional and notes that actuals may vary on finalization. The figures and examples here refer specifically to that report, not necessarily the newest report available on the portal. Check for a newer PDF before using the data.

Table 2: settlement comparisons
Table 2, “SGST & SGST portion of IGST settled to States/UTs till March, 2026,” has monthly and financial-year cumulative figures. It compares states and Union Territories across FY 2024–25 and FY 2025–26, including growth, for pre-settlement SGST and post-settlement GST.

The report defines the post-settlement measure as: “Post-Settlement GST is cumulative of the GST revenues of the States/UTs and the SGST portion of the IGST settled to the States/UTs.” It is therefore not SGST alone.
Table 3: domestic collections
Table 3, “State Wise/ Approving Authority wise Domestic Collection,” separates Central Formations from State Formations and gives a combined view. It reports CGST, SGST, IGST, cess and total collections, as well as GSTIN counts and growth comparisons. The table identifies its cutoff as 31 March 2026 and reports monetary totals in crore rupees.

How to read and compare the figures
- Choose a report cutoff. Open the official monthly PDF for the date you need, then record that cutoff. A report date and the period covered by a cumulative figure are not the same thing.
- For settlement data, use Table 2. Select the monthly or financial-year cumulative section and identify whether the column is pre-settlement SGST or post-settlement GST.
- For domestic collections, use Table 3. Check Central Formations, State Formations and the combined total. Preserve the CGST, SGST, IGST and cess breakdown if it matters to your comparison.
- Write down the period and unit. These reports express monetary totals in crore rupees. Do not describe a financial-year-to-date total as a single-month collection.
- Read growth against its stated comparison period. A growth percentage is meaningful only alongside the period and measure it compares.
Examples from the March 2026 report
For FY 2025–26 through March, Table 2 reports Maharashtra’s post-settlement GST at ₹1,95,500 crore, up 13% against FY 2024–25. Its pre-settlement SGST for the same financial-year period is ₹1,24,160 crore, up 9% against FY 2024–25. The grand total for post-settlement GST is ₹10,29,131 crore, up 6% against FY 2024–25. These are provisional figures from the GST portal/GSTN’s March 2026 report, expressed in crore rupees.

The GST portal/GSTN’s report titled “GST Gross and Net Collections as on 30/09/2025” illustrates how a different cutoff changes the period. Its domestic collection period is April 2025 to September 2025, and its settlement table compares FY 2024–25 with FY 2025–26 through September. In that report, Maharashtra’s combined domestic collection through 30 September 2025 is ₹93,647 crore—a cumulative six-month figure, not a monthly amount.

Before comparing states, match four things: the reporting period, the measure, any tax-head or authority breakdown, and the growth reference period. For example, do not compare one state’s domestic collection with another state’s post-settlement GST, or a monthly figure with a financial-year cumulative total.
