Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteNo. You can use a Fire TV Stick 4K Max with a compatible HDMI television that is not 4K; the picture will display at a lower resolution. To watch in 4K Ultra HD, you need a 4K TV, a compatible HDMI connection and a sufficiently fast, reliable internet connection. Amazon’s guidance calls for at least 15 Mbps for 4K viewing, while some apps recommend more.
Can you use it with a 1080p or other HD TV?
Yes. The “4K” in the device name describes its ability to output 4K video; it does not mean the television must be 4K for the streaming stick to work. With a compatible HDMI input, an HD television can show content at a lower resolution. The resolution you see depends on the TV, the content and the app, so do not assume every app or feature behaves identically across setups.

What do you need to watch in 4K?
- A 4K Ultra HD TV: The television must support 4K to display a 4K picture.
- An HDCP 2.2-compatible HDMI path: Amazon says the TV needs at least one HDMI input that supports HDCP 2.2. Any connected components in the signal path, such as an AV receiver or soundbar, must also support it. TVs may not support HDCP 2.2 on every HDMI socket, so check the port labels or the TV manual.
- Enough available internet speed: Amazon’s 4K guidance specifies at least 15 Mbps. It notes that some video apps recommend 20 Mbps; that is an example, not a universal requirement for every app.
Amazon’s customer-service guidance gives these figures for 4K Ultra HD viewing; it does not establish one internet-speed threshold for every app, resolution or household. Check the requirements for the app you use as well as the connection available where the TV is installed. Amazon’s 4K viewing guidance

Does “fast internet” mean you need Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E?
No. The internet-speed guidance for 4K is separate from the Fire TV Stick 4K Max’s Wi-Fi generation. Amazon distinguishes the 2021 first-generation model, which supports Wi-Fi 6, from the 2023 second-generation model, which supports Wi-Fi 6E. Its stated 4K viewing requirements do not make either Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E mandatory. Amazon Fire TV device specifications Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max generations

Why can streaming still struggle when your plan is fast enough?
A plan’s advertised speed does not guarantee that the TV receives that speed consistently. Weak Wi-Fi coverage near the television or a congested connection can affect playback. If 4K video buffers or drops in quality, check the available connection near the TV and compare it with the app’s own requirements before buying new equipment. The cited Amazon guidance specifies a 4K speed figure but does not promise smooth playback in every home-network condition.
