On some models and iOS versions, the screen is called Battery Health & Charging. Use the capacity estimate together with performance messages, real-world battery life and shutdowns—not as a replacement decision by itself.
Find the battery-health report
The menu name depends on the iPhone model and software version. Apple’s general iPhone battery and performance guidance gives the Battery Health path, while its model-specific guidance provides these details:

- iPhone 11, 12, 13 and 14: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging.
- iPhone 15 and later with iOS 17.4 or later: Open Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Apple says this screen can include maximum capacity, a replacement recommendation, cycle count, manufacture date and first-use date.
Apple’s guidance for iPhone 11 and later covers the model-specific screens. If your labels differ, check that guidance for your model and iOS version.

Read capacity alongside performance messages
Maximum Capacity
Maximum Capacity estimates the battery’s current capacity relative to when it was new. A lower estimate generally means less time between charges, but it is not a precise measure of how long your particular phone will last. Apple notes that actual capacity depends on how the device is used and charged.

Peak Performance Capability
Read the performance area as well as the percentage. Apple may report that the battery is supporting normal peak performance, that performance management was applied after an unexpected shutdown, or that the battery is significantly degraded and service is recommended. Apple’s normal-status wording is: “Your battery is currently supporting normal peak performance.”
Apple’s significant-degradation message reads: “Your battery’s health is significantly degraded.” Apple says that message alone does not indicate a safety issue; service may improve battery capacity and performance. These messages and explanations appear in Apple’s iPhone battery and performance document.

Unable to Verify
If iOS says it cannot verify the battery, Apple warns that the battery-health information may not be accurate. In that case, do not decide based on the displayed percentage alone; arrange an inspection.
Put cycle-count figures in context
Apple gives these design targets for retaining 80% of original capacity after a specified number of complete charge cycles under ideal conditions:

These are design figures in Apple’s battery guidance, not a guaranteed lifespan or a mandatory replacement threshold. The number of cycles is useful context, but it does not override the phone’s actual runtime, performance or health messages.
Account for iPhone 11 battery-health recalibration
On iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max running iOS 14.5 or later, battery-health reporting may recalibrate to correct inaccurate estimates. Apple says recalibration can take a few weeks of regular charge cycles. If you see a recalibration notice, wait for its result; if recalibration fails, follow Apple’s service guidance. Decide whether to seek service or replace the phone
Consider a battery-service estimate if iOS recommends service, reports significant degradation, or the phone’s runtime or unexpected shutdowns materially interfere with how you use it. Whether to repair or replace the whole phone depends on the local repair price and coverage, the phone’s age and overall condition, how much the battery affects your use, and how long you expect to keep it. Apple does not define a universal break-even price.
Service choices and prices depend on location. Apple offers battery service through its own channels and authorized providers; check the options and price where you live. Apple’s UK service page says AppleCare battery replacement is at no extra charge when capacity drops below 80%, but that is UK-specific wording, not a worldwide rule.
