What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
To check whether an ASUS laptop’s SSD or RAM may be contributing to slow performance, start with MyASUS > System Diagnosis, if that feature is available on your model. Review the component checks and suggested fixes. If Windows will not start, try the supported MyASUS in WinRE or UEFI/BIOS diagnostics. Check installed capacity separately: seeing how much RAM or storage you have does not establish whether it is healthy.
Start with the symptom and exact model
Record the complete model name and what is happening: slow startup, pauses with several apps open, delayed file transfers, freezes, error messages, or failure to boot. These observations help you choose the right check, but slowness by itself does not prove that RAM is insufficient or the SSD is failing.

ASUS features and menu labels vary by product. Use the full model name when checking support or upgrade specifications rather than assuming that every laptop in a product family has the same hardware.
Run MyASUS System Diagnosis in Windows
- Open MyASUS in Windows.
- Select System Diagnosis, if it appears.
- Run the available hardware or scenario-based checks. For a slow-system complaint, ASUS lists checks that include memory, hard disk/storage, available disk space, application usage, and fan.
- Open the Result page. Note any error items and read the suggested troubleshooting steps.
ASUS describes MyASUS System Diagnosis as providing one-click hardware diagnosis, customized component checks, and scenario-based checks. Test duration varies, and not every device exposes the same page or features. A pass is not a universal performance benchmark; it means the available checks did not report an issue.

If Windows will not start: try an available SSD diagnostic
Some ASUS laptops can run diagnostics outside the normal Windows desktop. These routes are model-dependent, so a missing menu does not necessarily indicate a fault.
MyASUS in WinRE
On supported devices, MyASUS in WinRE runs within the Windows Recovery Environment and includes System Diagnosis, including an SSD quick test. ASUS’s support document, “System Diagnostics within MyASUS in WinRE – Introduction,” updated April 7, 2026, describes it as “an easy-to-access diagnostic tool that works inside the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and is designed to give you seamless support.”

- Ideal for high speed, low power storage
- Gen 4x4 NVMe PCle performance
- Up to 6,000MB/s read, 4,000MB/s write
- Includes Acronis cloning software
- 5-year limited warranty
ASUS lists support for ASUS PCs using Intel 10th-generation-or-later or AMD Ryzen 4000-series-or-later processors, while noting that device support and service vary. You can reach WinRE from Windows Advanced Startup when Windows is usable, or through a startup function key that depends on the model. Follow ASUS’s instructions for your device rather than assuming one key works across all ASUS laptops.
UEFI/BIOS System Diagnostics
Some ASUS laptops include System Diagnostics in UEFI/BIOS, where an SSD test may be available even if the operating system will not boot. Availability depends on the model and processor. If the diagnostic menu is absent, check the laptop’s support information; the feature is not universal.

Check installed RAM and storage capacity
Capacity checks tell you what is installed, not whether a component is healthy.
- RAM in Windows: Open System Information and read Installed Physical Memory.
- Disk capacity in Windows: In System Information, open Components > Storage > Disks.
- SSD or other media type: Open Defragment and Optimize Drives and check the Media type field.
- ASUS utility: MyASUS System Info can also show installed memory and storage information.
Available disk space is a separate issue from total drive capacity and drive health. MyASUS’s slow-system scenario includes an available-space check; use its result alongside the symptoms and other diagnostics.

Choose the diagnostic route that fits the situation
| Route | What it can check | When it helps | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| MyASUS System Diagnosis in Windows | Memory, hard disk/storage, disk space, and other available checks | Windows starts and the feature is available | Features vary by device; it is not a universal performance benchmark. |
| MyASUS in WinRE | SSD and other supported component checks | Windows is unstable or will not boot, but WinRE is available | Support and startup access vary by model and processor. |
| UEFI/BIOS System Diagnostics | SSD and selected component tests | Windows is unavailable and the laptop includes the feature | Availability is limited and model-dependent. |
| System Information or MyASUS System Info | Installed memory and storage capacity | You need to identify what hardware is present | Inventory information is not a health diagnosis. |
Interpret the result and decide what to do
If the diagnostic reports an error
Save or note the reported error and follow the recommendation shown on the Result page. ASUS’s SSD troubleshooting guidance includes MyASUS SSD checks where available and further troubleshooting if the problem persists. If a hardware error remains unresolved, contact ASUS support and provide the diagnostic result.

Continue troubleshooting the symptom rather than declaring the SSD or RAM failed. Review the available-space and application-usage findings, and note when the slowdown occurs. A diagnostic pass does not rule out every cause of poor performance.

Check compatibility before upgrading RAM or storage
Look up the complete laptop model on the official ASUS website and open its Tech Specs before buying a component. Confirm the available slots, supported memory generation and capacity, storage interface, and physical fit. Do not transfer specifications from another ASUS model.
For example, ASUS UK’s 2026 specifications for the F513IA describe 8 GB of onboard memory that cannot be replaced, a SO-DIMM slot expandable by up to 8 GB, and support for an M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD up to 512 GB. Those figures apply to that example model, not ASUS laptops generally. ASUS advises consulting a local authorized service center for storage expansion if needed. An upgrade may be appropriate only when the model supports it and the diagnosis or symptoms justify it; it is not a guaranteed fix for slowness.
