For a quick check, press the fuel-gauge button on the battery if it has one. To confirm that a battery is fully charged, place it on a charger compatible with its voltage platform and read that charger’s status indicator. These checks show an approximate charge indication or charging status—not a universal state-of-charge percentage for every RYOBI battery.
Check the battery’s built-in fuel gauge
- Detach the battery from the tool. Look for a fuel-gauge button and indicator lights on the battery.
- Press the button if the battery has one. Read the lights using the markings on the battery or the instructions for that exact model. RYOBI describes an integrated LED fuel gauge on an 18V ONE+ 2Ah battery, but that example does not establish that every RYOBI battery has a gauge or uses the same light pattern. If the battery has no gauge, or its indication is unclear, do not infer a percentage from an unfamiliar pattern. Check the battery’s operator’s manual for the model-specific meaning.

Use a compatible charger to check charging status
A charger is useful when you need to know whether charging is complete. Match it to the battery’s voltage platform, fit the battery as directed, and interpret the indicator using the charger’s markings or manual. Charger lights report charging status; they do not provide a detached-battery percentage.

- 18V ONE+ example: RYOBI says the PCG002 charger has an LED that indicates when the battery is fully charged. See the PCG002 product page.
- 40V example: RYOBI says the OP4011A charger’s LED lights show battery charge status and identifies it as compatible with RYOBI 40V batteries. See the OP4011A product page.
These are manufacturer descriptions for those specific models, not a universal guide to LED colors or blinking patterns. Do not translate a pattern into a percentage unless the manual for your battery or charger says what it means.

Choose the check that fits your situation

What to do if the charge is low or uncertain
Charge the battery before starting if its gauge indicates a low charge or you cannot confidently interpret the indication. A gauge reading alone cannot guarantee runtime: how long a battery lasts depends on the battery, tool, and work being done.
