To find out when a PlayStation game’s online service ends, verify the exact PS5, PS4, PS3, PS Vita or PSP version, check PlayStation’s official decommissioned-servers notices, then confirm the publisher’s support announcement. Record the stated cutoff time and time zone—not just the calendar date—read which features are being removed, and subtract the deadline from your current local time. PlayStation does not provide a universal, personalized “hours left” figure, so you must compare that calendar window with the online trophies or modes you still need and leave room for matchmaking, downloads and failed attempts.
What a server-shutdown notice actually tells you
A shutdown notice is a service deadline, not automatically a statement that the entire game stops working. The notice should identify the game, the affected platform or platforms, the date and time when servers close, and the online functions that will disappear. Some closures remove multiplayer or user-generated content while leaving a single-player campaign, local modes or previously downloaded content playable.

PlayStation’s own decommissioning notices illustrate this distinction. One notice says that after its deadline, players can no longer access, browse, upload, download or play user-generated-content missions through the inFAMOUS 2 and inFAMOUS Festival of Blood online servers. That wording describes the affected online services; it does not by itself say that every offline part of either game becomes unusable.
For a third-party game, PlayStation’s Terms of Service say: “For games published by third parties, we ask them to provide you advanced notice of the shutdown.” The same terms say notice may be delivered by “in-game message, PSN notification or email.” A publisher’s announcement can therefore be the decisive source even when the title is not yet shown on a general PlayStation list.

Step 1: identify the exact game, edition and region
Before looking for a date, write down the precise product you own. A franchise can have separate online services for different releases, and a remaster can remain online after an older edition closes.
Record the platform
- PS5 native version
- PS4 version played on a PS4 or through PS5 backward compatibility
- PS3 version
- PS Vita version
- PSP version
Do not assume that a PS4 copy and a PS5 upgrade share one server. A notice can name one platform, a group of platforms, or a specific edition. If the game has both a disc release and a free-to-play download, check whether they use the same account and service.
Record the release and territory
Note the title exactly as it appears in your library, including subtitles, remastered labels and regional editions. Keep your PlayStation account country and the physical disc region in mind. A publisher can stage a shutdown by territory or publish times in a region-specific support article. If two versions have different trophy lists, treat them as separate projects until an official notice says otherwise.

Open the title’s main menu and note its version number, if shown. Install pending patches before attempting online trophies. A late patch can change matchmaking, remove a mode or display a shutdown warning that is not present in an older build.
Step 2: check PlayStation’s official decommissioned-servers page
PlayStation’s official decommissioned-servers page is the first check for a listed title. Search the page for the exact game name, then read the complete entry rather than relying on a date shown in a search result or a community calendar.
- Open the decommissioned-servers list from PlayStation Support.
- Search for the exact title and scan nearby entries for similarly named editions.
- Confirm the platform named in the notice matches the version you play.
- Copy the announced shutdown date, cutoff time and time zone into your notes.
- Read every sentence describing affected features, including user-generated content, purchases, virtual currency, leaderboards, cloud functions and multiplayer.
- Look for separate dates for announcement, delisting, purchase closure, account migration or final server access. They are not interchangeable.
Some notices are written as a short paragraph rather than a table. Treat phrases such as “online services will be discontinued” and “servers will be shut down” as the service event, then use the feature list to determine what remains available offline.
Step 3: find the publisher’s own service notice
Search the game publisher’s support center, service-status page and official news feed for the title and words such as “server closure,” “online services ending,” “sunset” or “decommission.” Also check the places PlayStation’s terms identify as possible notification channels:
- An in-game announcement or message-of-the-day panel
- A PSN notification
- An email sent to the account associated with the game
- A support article or news post on the publisher’s website
Capture the publisher’s wording and publication date. A publisher may clarify details that a PlayStation list summarizes, such as whether co-op, ranked matches, account linking, downloadable missions or virtual-currency spending ends together. A support article may also specify maintenance windows before the permanent cutoff.
If the publisher’s date differs from a PlayStation entry, do not average the dates or pick the later one for convenience. Compare the authority, platform, region, exact cutoff time and feature scope. Contact publisher support if the two primary notices still conflict and keep a screenshot or saved copy of the response.
Step 4: record the exact cutoff and convert it correctly
A headline such as “servers close on 30 June” is incomplete when the notice specifies a UTC hour. Write the deadline in a full form, for example: 30 June, 18:00 UTC. Then convert that instant to the time zone where you will actually play.
- Copy the official date, clock time and stated time zone exactly.
- Convert the instant with a time-zone tool that applies daylight-saving rules for your location on that date.
- Write both versions in your notes: the original UTC or regional time and your local time.
- Set calendar reminders for 72 hours, 24 hours and several hours before the local deadline.
- Plan to finish before the deadline rather than at it; maintenance or clock drift can make the final minutes unusable.
Do not convert a date without a time zone by guessing. If an announcement gives only a calendar date, treat the exact hour as unconfirmed and look for a publisher update or in-game notice. A date-only statement cannot support a precise countdown.

Step 5: map exactly what is shutting down
Make a feature inventory before deciding how urgent your trophies or progress are. Put each unfinished activity into one of these categories:
| Feature | Question to answer | What the shutdown may change |
|---|---|---|
| Competitive or cooperative multiplayer | Does the notice name matchmaking, lobbies, raids or co-op? | Matches may stop immediately at the cutoff, even if solo play remains. |
| User-generated content | Does it mention uploading, browsing, downloading or playing community missions? | Published levels and the tools to create them can disappear together. |
| Online purchases and virtual currency | Does the notice identify a store, transactions or an account wallet? | Purchases can close before servers end; PlayStation’s terms state that “VC will not be usable after a game’s online servers are shutdown.” |
| Leaderboards, profiles and cloud features | Are rankings, statistics, profiles or cloud saves listed? | Existing local saves may remain, while server-hosted records become inaccessible. |
| Offline campaign and local modes | Does the notice explicitly say these modes are unaffected? | They may continue, but do not assume every license check or downloadable item works offline. |
Use the notice’s verbs carefully. “No longer access, browse, upload, download, or play” is broader than “new uploads disabled.” A feature can be read-only for a period, removed at a separate date, or unavailable only to new accounts.
Step 6: distinguish a temporary outage from a permanent closure
Check PlayStation Service Status when you cannot connect. The live status page can show a current PSN outage or maintenance event; it does not replace a title-specific shutdown notice. A temporary outage normally has an incident or maintenance update and may affect several games or account functions. A permanent closure has an announced end date and a feature-specific explanation from PlayStation or the publisher.
Signs of a temporary incident
- Other online games or PSN account features fail at the same time.
- The service-status page reports an active incident or scheduled maintenance.
- The publisher says it is investigating connectivity rather than ending service.
- Players can connect again after the incident window.
Signs of a permanent shutdown
- An official notice gives a final date and time.
- The publisher uses terms such as “sunset,” “decommission” or “servers will close.”
- The notice lists features that will end and any offline content that remains.
- The game displays a final-service warning or disables purchases ahead of the deadline.
A service-status green light does not overrule a scheduled closure, and a temporary red light does not prove that a game has been permanently retired.

A community tracker such as PS-Shutdowns.com can help you find a title or notice you did not know existed. Treat it as an index, not as the authority. Trackers can list rumors, estimated dates, old announcements or a different platform edition.
For every date found on a tracker, open the linked PlayStation or publisher source and verify:
- The title and platform match your copy.
- The source is dated and still available.
- The cutoff includes a time zone.
- The feature scope matches the trophy or mode you need.
- The announcement is a permanent shutdown rather than an indefinite suspension or maintenance period.
If you cannot locate a primary notice, label the date as unconfirmed in your notes and avoid planning an all-or-nothing trophy run around it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to calculate how much play time you have left
There is no universal official personal “final play time” number. Shutdown notices provide a deadline and feature impact; they do not know your queue times, skill level, unfinished trophies or local clock. Calculate your own window in two stages.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Calculate the calendar window
- Write the current local date and time.
- Write the confirmed local shutdown instant after conversion.
- Subtract the current instant from the shutdown instant.
- Remove sleep, work, travel, planned maintenance and any period when you cannot play.
- Reserve a buffer for downloads, patches, login failures, matchmaking and retries.
For example, if a notice closes servers at 18:00 UTC and your conversion shows 20:00 local time, a 15:30 local check-in leaves 4.5 clock hours. That is not 4.5 guaranteed playing hours: a patch, a ten-minute matchmaking queue and several failed attempts consume part of it. The example demonstrates the method; use your own confirmed deadline and local conditions.
Estimate the work still required
List every online trophy or mode, then estimate active time and waiting time separately. If a reliable trophy guide gives a range, use the conservative (longer) end. Add time for learning a route, finding partners, repeating failed objectives and restarting after a disconnect. Finish requirements that depend on other players first; a solo collectible or local challenge can usually wait until the end if the shutdown scope leaves it available.
| Planning item | How to account for it |
|---|---|
| Active completion time | Use the longer credible estimate for each unfinished objective. |
| Queue and matchmaking | Measure a normal wait during your available hours and multiply it by the number of sessions you need. |
| Retries | Add a reserve for failed attempts, disconnects and loading screens. |
| Downloads and patches | Install updates before the final day; include restart time if a patch is required. |
| Final-day buffer | Stop scheduling new objectives several hours before the official cutoff. |
Compare the resulting required time with the usable window. If the work exceeds the window, prioritize trophies that explicitly require the affected servers, then coordinate partners and schedule sessions while the population is still active.
Protect your progress before the deadline
- Synchronize trophies and back up local saves where the game and console support it.
- Write down account IDs, team contacts and any partner time zones.
- Complete tutorials, unlocks and setup tasks before your scheduled online sessions.
- Spend or redeem virtual currency only if the official terms and notice confirm that the transaction remains available; do not assume unused VC survives a shutdown.
- Capture proof of milestone completion if a trophy fails to pop, but do not treat screenshots as a substitute for the server recording the achievement.
- Keep the console, game and controller updated and disable downloads that could interrupt a final session.
When two sources disagree
Resolve disagreement in this order, documenting each source and its date:
Recommended Free Tools
| Comparison | Decision rule |
|---|---|
| Primary authority | Prefer a current PlayStation or publisher notice over a tracker, forum post or social-media summary. |
| Exact cutoff | Prefer the source that states a clock time and time zone; a date-only headline cannot disprove a timed notice. |
| Platform and region | Check whether one source covers PS4 while the other covers PS5, or one territory while the other covers another. |
| Feature scope | Read the detailed feature list; one source may describe multiplayer while another describes user-generated content. |
| Type of event | Separate a temporary outage, indefinite suspension, purchase closure and permanent server shutdown. |
Use the earlier credible cutoff when uncertainty remains and continue checking the publisher’s support channel for an update. Planning against the later date can leave a trophy impossible to finish.
Common mistakes and fixes
Relying on a search-result date
Search snippets can be stale, truncated or tied to a different edition. Open the current official notice and copy its full wording.
Assuming the whole game becomes unusable
Read the scope. Offline campaigns and local modes may remain, while multiplayer, community content, rankings or virtual currency end.
Ignoring the time zone
Convert the stated instant to your playing location and set reminders. Never schedule the last trophy for the displayed date without an hour.
Confusing PSN maintenance with a sunset
Check PlayStation Service Status and the publisher’s announcement. An outage is temporary unless an official deadline says otherwise.
Waiting until the final day to find partners
Online populations shrink after a closure is announced. Arrange sessions early, complete setup tasks beforehand and reserve the final day for retries rather than first attempts.
Assuming a tracker is authoritative
Use a tracker for discovery, then verify every date, platform, region and feature against Sony or the publisher.
A repeatable shutdown-check checklist
- Write the exact title, edition, platform and account region.
- Search PlayStation’s decommissioned-servers page.
- Read the publisher’s support and in-game notices.
- Record the final date, clock time and time zone verbatim.
- Convert the deadline to your local time and set reminders.
- List the online trophies and modes you still need.
- Mark which functions end and which offline functions remain.
- Check PlayStation Service Status for current outages.
- Use third-party calendars only to locate missing primary notices.
- Subtract the current time, then reserve time for queues, patches, retries and a final buffer.
- Complete server-dependent objectives first and save evidence of progress.
This process gives you an auditable answer: a primary-source deadline, a local cutoff, a defined feature scope and a realistic estimate of the play time you can actually use.
