Check a Nepal mutual fund in this order: confirm the scheme in the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) records, download the latest report from the fund manager, write down the NAV with its as-of date, read the portfolio snapshot, compare like-for-like total returns, and then verify your units through CDSC’s depository and MeroShare system. This sequence keeps an old NAV, a market quotation and an investor’s actual demat balance from being confused with one another.
There is no single “current Nepal mutual-fund NAV.” Every NAV belongs to a named scheme and a dated calculation or report. The same rule applies to returns, distributions, expenses and holdings.

1. Confirm the exact scheme before looking at numbers
Nepal has multiple mutual-fund schemes, and names can be similar. Start with SEBON’s approved-mutual-fund list and scheme records. Confirm the scheme’s full name, fund manager, structure and whether it is the scheme you own or intend to compare.

What to record
- Full scheme name and, where shown, its symbol or issue identifier.
- Fund manager’s name.
- Whether the scheme is open-ended or close-ended.
- The report period and publication date.
SEBON’s approved list changes over time, so an old search result or an unaffiliated page is not a substitute for the regulator’s record. If a manager’s report cannot be found, use the SEBON scheme record to verify that the scheme exists and contact the manager or your depository participant rather than filling the gap with an aggregator’s number.

2. Find the manager’s latest official report
SEBON’s Investors’ Handbook says the relevant mutual-fund reports are available on the respective fund managers’ websites. It also says funds publish performance on weekly, monthly, half-yearly and yearly bases. A report can contain NAV information, expenses and other scheme details.
Use the newest report that answers your question
| Question | Best document | What to note |
|---|---|---|
| What is the latest NAV? | Latest NAV statement or manager report | Scheme name, NAV, currency and as-of date |
| What does the fund own? | Latest portfolio or monthly report | Report date, allocation, holdings and sector weights |
| How did it perform? | Comparable periodic or annual performance report | Period, return definition, distributions and expenses |
| What did I receive? | Distribution notice and account records | Per-unit distribution, payment date and your units |
Save the report or note its publication date. A PDF downloaded today can still contain figures calculated weeks or months earlier.
3. Read NAV correctly
Net asset value (NAV) is the value of one fund unit after accounting for the scheme’s assets, investment income and expenses. An annual report for NIMB Ace describes the calculation as net scheme assets divided by units. It states that NAV is calculated weekly, with monthly NAV published in a national daily and on the manager’s website.
The NAV formula
NAV per unit = (value of scheme assets − liabilities and accrued expenses) ÷ units outstanding
The formula explains why NAV can change even when you do not trade: security prices, interest income, expenses, cash balances, liabilities and the number of units can all affect the result.
Label every NAV entry
| Field | Example of a properly labelled entry |
|---|---|
| Scheme | Named scheme, not merely the fund family |
| NAV | Value per unit in Nepalese rupees, as reported |
| As-of date | Date on which the NAV was calculated |
| Report period | Month, half-year or year covered by the document |
| Source | Manager’s statement or report, with its publication date |
Never describe a historical figure as today’s NAV. If a page shows a number without an as-of date, treat it as unverified until you find the dated manager statement.
4. Locate and interpret the portfolio
Open the portfolio or investment section of the latest manager report. Capture the allocation and the date together; holdings are a snapshot and may change by the next report.

Five portfolio checks
- Asset allocation: Record percentages in equities, fixed income, cash and any other disclosed category.
- Largest equity holdings: List the biggest positions and their weights. A few large positions can dominate the fund’s result.
- Sector concentration: Note whether banking, insurance, hydropower or another sector accounts for a large share.
- Fixed-income and cash exposure: These holdings can change the fund’s sensitivity to equity-market moves and liquidity needs.
- Month-to-month changes: Compare two dated reports to see additions, reductions or major allocation shifts.
Do not treat a top-holdings list as a permanent description of the fund. It tells you what was held on the report date, not what will be held when you place an order.
Questions the portfolio section may answer
- Is the scheme primarily equity-oriented or does it hold substantial fixed income and cash?
- How concentrated are the top five or ten holdings?
- Does the stated allocation match the risk you expect from the scheme’s structure?
- Did a large change occur between consecutive reports, and is an explanation provided?
If a report omits a detail, record it as “not stated” rather than estimating it from a chart or a third-party summary.
5. Compare performance on equal terms
A NAV increase alone is not an investor’s complete outcome. Include distributions, expenses and the same measurement period when comparing funds. SEBON advises investors to compare schemes with similar schemes and with a relevant benchmark such as the NEPSE Index.
Build a like-for-like comparison
| Comparison axis | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Period | Use identical start and end dates, such as one year ending on the same report date. |
| Total outcome | Include distributions received or declared, not just the change in NAV. |
| Expenses | Use the charges disclosed in each report; do not assume two schemes have identical costs. |
| Scheme type | Compare open-ended with open-ended and close-ended with close-ended unless you clearly explain the difference. |
| Benchmark | Use a relevant benchmark, including the NEPSE Index where appropriate, for the same period. |
| Age and history | State when each scheme began and avoid treating a short record as a long-term track record. |
| Trading price | For a scheme traded on an exchange, compare market price with NAV and identify any discount or premium. |
Performance percentages are meaningful only when their definition is clear. Ask whether a reported figure is a NAV return, a market-price return, a distribution-adjusted total return, or a return before or after stated expenses.
A simple distribution-adjusted calculation
For an illustrative calculation, suppose a unit’s NAV rises from Rs 10.00 to Rs 10.60 and the fund pays Rs 0.20 per unit during the period. Ignoring taxes and timing effects, the distribution-adjusted gain is Rs 0.80 per original unit, or 8 percent of the Rs 10.00 starting value. The example is arithmetic, not a performance claim about any Nepal scheme. Use the actual dates, NAVs and distributions in the fund’s records.
When distributions are reinvested, the report’s stated methodology may differ from a cash-distribution calculation. Keep the manager’s definition beside your own worksheet.
6. Distinguish NAV from exchange market price
NAV is an accounting value per unit. A close-ended scheme that trades on an exchange can also have a market price set by buyers and sellers. The market price may be above NAV (a premium) or below NAV (a discount).

Record both figures separately
- Write “NAV” for the manager-reported per-unit value.
- Write “market price” for the exchange quotation and its trading date.
- Calculate any premium or discount only after matching the dates as closely as possible.
- Do not use a market quotation as a replacement for the fund’s NAV.
For an open-ended scheme, the purchase or redemption process may use a manager-defined NAV and dealing schedule rather than an exchange price. Read the scheme’s own terms before assuming that an exchange quote applies.

CDSC’s depository and MeroShare ecosystem is the place to verify that units are credited to the correct demat record. CDSC lists registered mutual funds, depository participants and MeroShare users.
Verification workflow
- Confirm that the mutual-fund allotment, transfer or purchase should already have been processed according to the issue or transaction notice.
- Sign in to your MeroShare account maintained through your depository participant.
- Open the account area that displays your demat holdings or securities and look for the exact mutual-fund scheme name and credited quantity.
- Check transaction or statement records for the credit date, quantity and the demat account associated with the application.
- Compare the displayed quantity with the allotment or transaction confirmation.
- If the units are missing, duplicated or attached to the wrong account, contact the depository participant first with the confirmation and transaction details; escalate to the fund manager or CDSC when the participant cannot resolve the record.
Screen labels can vary by MeroShare release and account role. The decisive evidence is the demat holding and transaction record, not a payment receipt by itself.
CDSC snapshot figures
The CDSC homepage snapshot listed 62 registered mutual funds and 7,207,738 registered MeroShare users on 2026-10-19. These are volatile website metrics, not permanent counts; quote them with the access date whenever they are used.
8. A worksheet for comparing two or more schemes
Use one row per scheme and keep the report date in every column. This prevents a newer NAV for one fund being compared with an older NAV for another.

A blank or “not stated” cell is more reliable than an inferred number. Missing disclosure is itself a reason to seek clarification before drawing a strong conclusion.

10. A repeatable monthly review
- Check SEBON’s scheme record and confirm that the fund manager and scheme name still match your worksheet.
- Download the newest manager report and write down its publication and as-of dates.
- Update NAV, distributions, disclosed expenses and portfolio allocation.
- Compare the same period with similar schemes and the chosen benchmark.
- Note material changes in top holdings, sectors, fixed income or cash.
- Check MeroShare after a new allotment, transfer or other unit event.
- Keep the prior report so changes can be measured rather than guessed.
This process gives you an auditable record: every number has a scheme, date, definition and source, and every investor holding has a demat confirmation.
11. What the official guidance means for investors
SEBON’s Investors’ Handbook says, “Mutual funds are also required to publish their performance in weekly, monthly and half-yearly and yearly basis.” It also tells investors to study these reports and stay informed about the performance of different schemes. In practice, that means using the manager’s periodic disclosures as the primary operating record, then using SEBON and CDSC to confirm the scheme and the investor’s demat position.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often is a Nepal mutual-fund NAV published?
The NIMB Ace annual report describes weekly NAV calculation and monthly publication in a national daily and on the manager’s website. SEBON’s Investors’ Handbook also says mutual funds publish performance weekly, monthly, half-yearly and yearly. Use the named scheme’s own dated report for the figure you need.
Is a higher NAV automatically a better mutual fund?
No. NAV levels are not directly comparable across schemes launched at different times or with different distributions. Compare equal-period, distribution-adjusted performance, expenses, portfolio exposure and a relevant benchmark.
Where do I see a mutual fund’s top holdings?
Open the latest portfolio or periodic report published by the fund manager. Record the report date because holdings and allocations can change before the next report.
What should I do if my mutual-fund units do not appear in MeroShare?
Compare the expected quantity with the allotment or transaction confirmation, then contact your depository participant with those details. Ask the participant or fund manager to investigate before assuming the units were lost.
