Use an earnings calendar to discover a likely reporting date, then verify it on the company’s investor-relations (IR) website or in its formal public announcement. Subscribe to the issuer’s financial-release and filing alerts, record the release and conference-call times separately, add the confirmed event to Outlook or Google Calendar, and check the IR page again on the day. Calendar estimates are useful for planning, but the issuer’s dated release or event notice is the authoritative schedule.
The reliable six-step workflow
- Find a candidate date. Search the ticker in a reputable earnings calendar.
- Open the issuer’s IR site. Check sections named Events, Events & Presentations, Quarterly Results, or Press Releases.
- Confirm the session and times. Note whether results are due before the market opens or after it closes, and record any separate conference-call time.
- Subscribe to alerts. Choose financial releases, SEC filings, quarterly or annual reports, and events where those options are offered.
- Create a personal calendar entry. Add the confirmed event to Outlook or Google Calendar with a reminder one day before and another shortly before the release or call.
- Recheck on the day. If the calendar estimate and the issuer’s latest notice differ, follow the newer issuer notice.
This process separates discovery from verification. It also gives you a backup path: if an email is delayed or a third-party calendar changes late, the company’s own public disclosure remains the reference point.

Why earnings dates conflict
Companies often report on a broadly regular quarterly rhythm, so calendar services can predict the next date from historical patterns. A prediction is not the same as an announced event, however. A board, finance team, or exchange schedule can move a release, and a company may publish the exact time only shortly before results.

| Market or third-party earnings calendar | A projected date, sometimes based on historical reporting behavior | Use for discovery and early planning; verify before relying on it |
| Issuer IR event page | A dated earnings event, webcast information, and sometimes calendar-download controls | Treat a current, dated listing as the strongest schedule signal |
| Issuer press release or conference-call notice | The company’s announced release date, time, call details, and access instructions | Use the latest notice when dates or times conflict |
| Public filing | A formal filing timestamp and the company’s disclosed information | Use as a public-record cross-check, especially when no event page is available |
Nasdaq states that its displayed earnings date “is derived from an algorithm based on a company’s historical reporting dates and is provided by Zacks Investment Research.” The same page warns: “These expected dates are not official and are not endorsed by Nasdaq.” You can use the Nasdaq market-activity page to locate a ticker, but do not mistake its expected date for an issuer confirmation.

Step 1: Find the expected date
Search by ticker, not just the company name
Enter the company’s exchange ticker in the calendar’s earnings search. Tickers reduce confusion between companies with similar names and make it easier to save the correct security to a watchlist. Record the quarter shown beside the date; a calendar can display a date for the next fiscal quarter while you are looking for a different reporting period.
Capture the estimate and its status
Write down the date, quarter, and whether the service labels it estimated, expected, or confirmed. If the page offers a confidence indicator or a last-updated time, keep that information with your note. It tells you how much verification work remains and prevents an old estimate from looking like a new announcement.
Use estimates for lead time
An expected date is valuable even when it is unofficial. It gives you time to open the issuer’s IR page, subscribe to alerts, and reserve space on your calendar. For companies that do not publish far in advance, this early warning may be the only practical way to start watching.

Step 2: Confirm the date on the company’s investor-relations site
Where to look
Start at the company’s official website and follow its Investor Relations, Investors, or Financial Information link. Common navigation labels include:
- Events or Events & Presentations for upcoming calls, webcasts, and conferences.
- Quarterly Results for earnings releases, presentations, and archived reports.
- Press Releases or News for the announcement that fixes the date and time.
- SEC Filings or Regulatory filings for formal public disclosures.
Do not stop at a homepage news headline. Open the individual event or release so you can see the reporting period, publication time, call details, and any change notice. An events page may also link directly to a webcast registration page or downloadable calendar file.
How to recognize a confirmation
A stronger confirmation names the fiscal quarter and supplies a specific date, rather than saying only that results will be released “in early May.” It may also state whether the release will be issued before the market opens or after the close and give a conference-call time. If the page carries an “updated” label, use the updated entry and discard the older date in your personal notes.
Use the latest issuer document
If the IR event listing and a previous calendar entry disagree, compare their publication dates. A later issuer notice supersedes an older listing. Save the release URL in your calendar entry so you can return to the exact document instead of searching again.

Step 3: Separate the release time from the conference call
“Earnings date” can refer to two different events:
- Results release: the time the company publishes its financial results and accompanying announcement.
- Conference call or webcast: a later management presentation and question-and-answer session.
A release may arrive before the market opens or after it closes. The call can occur at a different time, sometimes on the same day and sometimes on the following morning. Record both entries rather than treating the call time as the release time.
Read the issuer’s time zone carefully
Use the time zone printed in the notice. If none is shown, look for the webcast registration page or the IR site’s stated headquarters time zone, then verify the conversion with your calendar application. Do not assume that every US-listed company uses Eastern Time, and do not convert a time twice when Outlook or Google Calendar automatically adjusts it for your location.
What an issuer notice looks like
An Allstate announcement illustrates the pattern: the notice publishes a release date and time, gives a separate earnings-call schedule, and directs readers to the company’s IR resources and SEC materials. Use the notice itself for the exact values; the example is available at this Allstate earnings-call announcement.

Alerts reduce the chance that a moved date or newly posted release will surprise you. Prefer the issuer’s own alert form when available, then add a market-calendar alert as a secondary signal.
Alert categories worth selecting
| Alert | Why it matters | When it may arrive |
|---|---|---|
| Financial Releases | Signals that the earnings announcement has been published | At or near the release publication |
| All SEC Filings | Captures formal filings and other regulatory disclosures | When a filing is accepted and posted |
| Quarterly and Annual Reports | Targets periodic reports without every company announcement | When the relevant report is issued |
| All Events & Presentations | Can include earnings calls, webcasts, and investor events | When an event is added or updated |
Nasdaq’s alert form demonstrates these choices in one place: its email-alerts page lists All SEC Filings, Quarterly and Annual Reports, All Events & Presentations, and Financial Releases. Look for equivalent checkboxes on the company you follow.
Use a separate channel for high-priority names
For a small number of companies whose results you cannot miss, use two independent channels: the issuer’s email alerts plus a calendar notification. If the issuer offers RSS or push notifications, those can be a third channel, but avoid subscribing to every category for hundreds of companies; excessive alerts make the important message easier to overlook.

Step 5: Add the confirmed event to Outlook or Google Calendar
Create two entries when the times differ
- Create an event titled with the company, fiscal quarter, and “results release.”
- Enter the issuer’s exact release time and time zone.
- Paste the issuer’s IR or release URL into the event description.
- Create a second event for the conference call or webcast if it has a separate time.
- Set a reminder one day before and another shortly before each event.
Two entries prevent a common mistake: receiving a reminder for the call and assuming the financial statements have just been released. Include the webcast link only after confirming that it belongs to the current quarter.
Use built-in calendar controls when offered
Some IR event pages provide Add to Outlook and Add to Google Calendar controls. Nasdaq’s events page shows both types of controls alongside dated earnings-result entries and webcast links at its events and presentations page. Imported events are convenient, but inspect the time zone, title, and reminder settings after import; the issuer’s published time remains the authority.
Protect the calendar from stale imports
An imported event is a snapshot unless it is tied to a live calendar feed. If the company later moves the date, edit or delete the old entry rather than leaving two competing reminders. Keep the source URL in the notes so you can verify the change quickly.
Step 6: Recheck on the day of results
Open the issuer’s IR page on the morning of the expected release and again before the call. Look for a revised event, a replacement press release, or a notice that the webcast link has changed. A market calendar may still show the old estimate after the issuer has updated its schedule.
When the release arrives, confirm that it belongs to the intended fiscal quarter. Companies can publish a preliminary update, guidance statement, or other news item that is not the full earnings release. The formal announcement normally identifies the period and provides the financial statements or a link to them.
How to choose an earnings calendar or alert source
No single service is best for every reader. Compare sources on the dimensions that affect your risk of missing or misreading an event.
| Decision factor | Questions to ask | Practical preference |
|---|---|---|
| Authority | Does the entry come from the issuer or an algorithmic estimate? | Use issuer material for final confirmation. |
| Lead time | How far ahead does the date appear, and does the service show changes? | Use an estimate early, then monitor updates. |
| Timing detail | Does it show the release session, exact time, call time, and webcast? | Prefer a source that distinguishes release and call. |
| Delivery | Are email, RSS, push, or calendar integration available? | Combine one immediate alert with a calendar reminder. |
| Coverage | Can you follow one company, a watchlist, or the whole market? | Match coverage to the number of companies you track. |
| Verification burden | Does the entry link to an issuer release or filing? | Choose links that let you verify without a second search. |
Build an alert routine that fits your workload
If you follow one to five companies
Use each issuer’s IR email form, place the confirmed release and call on your calendar, and check the IR page the day before. This is usually simpler and more authoritative than maintaining a large third-party watchlist.

If you follow a watchlist
Use a market calendar to see upcoming quarters in one view. Once a date appears, open each issuer page and replace the estimate with the confirmed time in your calendar. Keep a column or note for “estimate,” “confirmed,” and “last checked” so an old prediction cannot silently remain your plan.
If you need filing-level speed
Subscribe to all SEC filings in addition to financial releases. A filing alert can arrive through a different system from an IR email and provides a public-record timestamp. It may also include documents unrelated to earnings, so use filters or folders to keep the signal manageable.

Earnings are material news: information that can affect how investors value a listed company. NYSE guidance includes earnings among the material news covered by its timely-alert and material-news policy. The guidance is available in the NYSE 2024 Annual Guidance Letter.
Use public issuer announcements, exchange disclosures, and filings rather than relying on an unverified private message. A public source gives every reader the same information and lets you check the original date, time, and wording. Alerts are a convenience; they do not turn a rumor or an unlabeled calendar prediction into an official announcement.
Troubleshooting common problems
The calendar says today, but the IR site says nothing
Treat the calendar entry as unconfirmed. Check the company’s press-release archive, events page, and filing page, then look for a date change or an announcement that results will be issued after the close. Do not schedule a trade or meeting around an estimate alone.
The IR page lists a date but no time
Look for a separate conference-call notice, webcast-registration page, or release issued closer to the event. Keep the date marked as confirmed but leave the time blank until the issuer states it. Set a day-before reminder to check again.
The release and call have different times
Create separate calendar entries and label each one explicitly. The release entry should point to the results announcement; the call entry should point to the webcast or dial-in instructions.
Best Value
An imported calendar event is in the wrong time zone
Open the event details, inspect the time-zone field, and compare it with the issuer’s notice. Correct the event rather than manually shifting the clock if your calendar supports time-zone selection; a manual shift can become wrong when you travel or daylight-saving rules change.
You receive too many alerts
Keep financial releases and events for the companies you actively follow. Move all-filings alerts into a dedicated folder or filter, and unsubscribe from broad categories that do not change your decisions. A smaller, reliable alert set is easier to monitor than an inbox full of duplicates.
The date changes after you set reminders
Delete the old event, import or create the new one, and retain the latest issuer URL. Check your calendar for duplicate reminders and notify anyone who received the old invitation. Continue using the issuer page as the source of truth rather than trying to predict the next revision.

A record-keeping template
For each company, keep one compact note with these fields:
- Company name and ticker
- Fiscal quarter and fiscal year
- Estimated date and the calendar that supplied it
- Confirmed release date, time, and time zone
- Conference-call or webcast date, time, and link
- Issuer IR or press-release URL
- SEC filing URL, if relevant
- Date you last checked the schedule
This record makes changes visible and helps distinguish a newly announced quarter from an archived result. It also gives you the exact source to open when an alert arrives without enough context.
Final checklist before results
- Is the date confirmed by a current issuer event listing or formal release?
- Have you identified whether publication is before the open or after the close?
- Did you record the release time and conference-call time separately?
- Are the time zones correct in your calendar?
- Are financial-release, event, and filing alerts enabled where useful?
- Do your reminders fire one day before and shortly before the relevant event?
- Will you recheck the issuer’s page on the day?
A market calendar answers “when might this happen?” The issuer’s IR site, release, or public filing answers “when is it actually scheduled?” Keeping those roles separate gives you early notice without treating an estimate as a fact.
