For a work or school Microsoft 365 account, go to myaccount.microsoft.com, sign in with the account you want to update, select the edit icon on your current profile picture, upload a replacement, adjust it if needed, and select Save. If you cannot edit the picture, your organization may control the setting.
First, identify which account’s picture you want to change
“Microsoft Office 365” may refer to a work or school Microsoft 365 account, a personal Microsoft account, or a picture displayed in an app such as Teams or Outlook. Check which account is signed in before following the steps: work and school accounts can be managed by an organization, while personal accounts use the Microsoft account dashboard. App-specific routes are also available.

Change a work or school Microsoft 365 profile picture
- Go to myaccount.microsoft.com and sign in with the work or school account whose picture you want to change.
- Select the edit icon on your current profile picture.
- Upload or choose a replacement picture. Resize it if needed.
- Select Save.
If the edit icon or upload control is missing, your organization may restrict profile-picture changes. Contact your administrator or IT or HR department instead of trying unrelated app settings. Microsoft also documents an alternate entry point from an Office app: select your own profile picture, choose Update your profile, and use the photo controls on the profile page. Outlook on the web
- Select your profile picture at the top of the page.
- Choose View account.
- In the account pane, select the profile picture, upload a new photo, and choose Apply.

Classic Outlook for Windows
- In Outlook, select File to open the Account Information page.
- Under your current photo, select Change.
- In the browser page that opens, sign in again if prompted, upload the image, adjust its size or rotation if desired, and save.
The change flow opens in a browser. Microsoft says the updated picture can take up to 48 hours to appear in classic Outlook. If Change is absent, your organization’s IT or HR systems may manage the photo or related profile information. See Microsoft’s classic Outlook guidance.

Change the picture in Teams
Teams desktop
- Select your profile picture at the top right.
- When the account manager opens, select the photo again.
- Upload an image or remove the current one, then select Save.
Teams mobile
- Tap your current picture or initials and open your profile.
- Select Update photo to take a picture or choose one from your device.
Teams for personal use also provides profile-picture editing in its profile and settings controls, including choosing a picture from the photo library or removing the existing one. Microsoft notes that a changed photo may take time to update across Teams channels; clearing the Teams cache may help refresh it sooner, but is not a guaranteed fix. Change a personal Microsoft account picture
- Open the Microsoft account dashboard and select Your info.
- Use the option to add or change your picture, then choose an image and save it.
Microsoft supports most static image files on PC, macOS, iOS, and Android, but not HEIC or animated GIF files. A portrait or landscape photo may crop awkwardly; Microsoft suggests adding borders in an image editor to make the image square. Microsoft says updates can take up to 24 hours to appear across apps and devices using that account. Follow Microsoft’s personal account picture instructions. Do not use these steps as a substitute for the work or school route: an organization may control that profile.

Why the new picture may not appear right away
Microsoft documents different update windows for different account types and services. They are not a single, universal promise that every Microsoft 365 app will refresh on the same schedule.

Microsoft says SharePoint Online profile-picture synchronization relies on a photo stored in Microsoft Entra. Do not try to edit SharePoint user-photo properties manually; Microsoft says they should not be changed by hand. If the upload succeeded, allow the applicable service time to update before treating the delay as an account problem. If the edit control itself is blocked, contact your organization’s administrator.
