Change your profile icon from the HOME Menu
- On the HOME Menu, select the user page for the profile whose icon you want to change.
- Select User Settings.
- Under Profile Settings, select Edit Icon.
- Choose a character or Mii, then adjust the background and confirm your selection.
The change applies to the profile you selected in the first step. These instructions apply to Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model. See Nintendo’s profile settings instructions.

Alternative: open the profile in System Settings
- From the HOME Menu, open System Settings.
- Select Users, then choose the user profile you want to edit.
- Select Edit Icon.
- Choose a character or Mii, adjust the background, and confirm.
Use a custom user icon
Nintendo Switch Online members can create custom user icons from the profile icon settings. If you do not have that membership, you can still select from the available character and Mii icons and change the background. Nintendo’s instructions do not make nickname or play-activity settings part of the icon-editing steps.
Fix a Mii missing after a user and save data transfer
Nintendo documents a specific transfer-related problem in which a profile may show a question mark, the Mii may not be editable, or an error may say that Mii data cannot be found. For that case, Nintendo’s prescribed steps are:

- Open the affected user’s page.
- Choose Profile > Edit Icon > Character/Mii.
- Scroll to the Mii option and select the Mii used before the User & Save Data Transfer.

Switch 2 menu note
If you are using a Nintendo Switch 2 rather than a Nintendo Switch, Nintendo separately documents comparable routes through the user page or System Settings > Users, with Edit Icon for choosing a character or Mii and adjusting the background. Custom icons are also described for Nintendo Switch Online members. See Nintendo’s Switch 2 profile settings instructions.
