Nintendo Switch Online profile icon rewards are characters, backgrounds, and frames you can redeem with My Nintendo Platinum Points, then combine into a custom user icon. On your Switch or Switch 2, open the Nintendo Switch Online app from the HOME Menu, choose the intended user, and go to Missions & Rewards. You need an active paid Nintendo Switch Online membership, an internet connection, and a supported console; each item’s current cost and any extra requirements appear in the console.
How to earn and redeem profile icon elements
- Open the rewards catalog. From the HOME Menu, launch Nintendo Switch Online and select the user account that should receive the elements. Open Missions & Rewards to view available missions and rewards.
- Complete a mission and collect its points. Read the mission details, meet its conditions, then return to the My Nintendo missions page and collect the Platinum Points. Check any deadline: a mission may register as completed after its collection deadline without granting the points.
- Redeem an element. Choose a character, frame, or background and spend the displayed Platinum Points. Generic frames and background colors are available without points; game-specific frames and backgrounds may cost points.
- Build and set your icon. Open Icon Collection. Start from the Icons screen to choose a game, or begin with an element in the Icon Elements screen. Select a character, frame, and background, save the icon, then set it as the user icon. Icons created with these elements are set through Nintendo Switch Online on HOME, not through the standard System Settings or User Page icon selector.
Nintendo describes the basic exchange as redeeming My Nintendo Platinum Points for icon elements—characters, backgrounds, and frames—in its April 7, 2026 news article. For the current catalog and mission terms, use the console’s Nintendo Switch Online profile icon guide.

Who can get each reward?
An active paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is the general requirement, but a specific element can have additional eligibility rules. Some require playing the associated game while the item is available; others may require playing on at least three separate days in the previous 30 days. These conditions are not universal: read the mission or item details in the console before spending points or looking for a reward.

#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Membership eligibility matters when claiming an exclusive element, not for keeping an element already added to Icon Collection. Nintendo says redeemed elements remain available if the membership ends. Items and icons belong to the Nintendo Account that earned them, appear on consoles linked to that same account, and cannot be shared with another Nintendo Account. One Icon Collection can save up to 100 user icons, according to Nintendo’s icon-collection support page.
How often do the rewards change?
Nintendo says themes change monthly and icon elements refresh weekly. The catalog is a rotation, not a promise that a particular past reward will return: Nintendo’s cited guidance does not establish a return schedule. Check Missions & Rewards on the console for the live selection, current point costs, and deadlines rather than relying on an old list. See Nintendo’s support guide for the general cadence.

Which icon elements can you combine?
Parts can be combined with elements from the same game or collection, or with generic frames and backgrounds. Parts from different games do not necessarily mix—for example, Animal Crossing: New Horizons elements cannot be combined with Super Mario Odyssey elements. Also, if a character element already includes a background, the editor may not let you select a separate background. Choose compatible parts in Icon Collection; the editor reflects what can be used together.

What to check if an element is missing
- Selected user: Confirm that Nintendo Switch Online is open under the Nintendo Account that should own the reward.
- Catalog and timing: Check the game currently shown and the current week’s selection. A previous rotation may no longer be available.
- Points and collection: Verify your Platinum Points balance and collect points from completed missions before redeeming.
- Membership tier: Check whether the specific element requires standard paid Nintendo Switch Online or Expansion Pack.
- Game-play condition: Read the item or mission details for a required game or play period, including any three-days-within-30-days condition.
- Combination compatibility: If the editor will not accept a part, make sure the elements are from compatible games or collections and that the character does not already contain a background.
Nintendo’s Australia support instructions also describe creating and using a custom Nintendo Switch Online icon; regional catalog availability and conditions should still be checked in your own console.
