When people search for how to change their location, they usually mean one of four different things: limiting what an app can see, turning location off, changing which device is shared through Find My, or simulating a location for app testing. Each of these works differently, and only the last one is designed to present a false location at all.
What “change your location” can mean on iPhone
Location on an iPhone is a set of permissions and sharing settings layered over the device’s position data. Location Services can draw on GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and cellular network information when those sources are available. The controls described below adjust who gets that information and how precise it is. None of them moves the phone’s real position to a new place.

Before you start, decide which goal applies to you:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Privacy: you want an app to see only an approximate location, or no location at all.
- Sharing: you want the location that friends and family see in Find My to come from a different device.
- Testing: you are building an app and need it to behave as if it were somewhere else.
Method 1: Change an app’s location access or precision
This is the most common adjustment. It controls whether one app can use your location and how exact that location is. It does not give the app a different position.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- Open Settings and tap Privacy & Security.
- Tap Location Services.
- Scroll to the app you want to change and tap it.
- Choose an access option, such as While Using the App or Never.
- Set Precise Location as needed.
Apple’s guidance on this screen is direct: “To allow an app to use your specific location, leave Precise Location turned on.” If an app only needs a general area, such as a weather or shopping app showing nearby results, turning Precise Location off gives it an approximate position instead. Apple’s Location Services privacy controls are documented in Apple Support’s article “Control the location information you share on iPhone.”
Method 2: Turn Location Services off globally or for selected apps
You can switch off location for the whole phone or only for particular apps. The global switch is at Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, and the per-app controls appear on the same screen.

Turning it off has real costs. Apple warns that disabling Location Services limits the performance of various Apple and third-party apps. Maps directions, ride-hailing, weather, and location-based reminders are the typical casualties. Two details matter:
- Limiting one or two apps is usually the better trade-off. Switching off the whole system stops location-dependent features everywhere.
- Emergency response is an exception. Apple states that your iPhone’s location may be used for emergency response when you place an emergency call, even if Location Services is disabled.
Method 3: Choose another Apple device as the Find My sharing source
Find My can share the location of your account’s devices with other people. Apple says you can choose a different device as the location source for that sharing. This changes what people see in Find My. It does not move your iPhone.

- Up to 26 hours video playback. USB C, Supports USB 2. Face ID
- Open the Find My app and tap the Me tab.
- Find the device listed next to Sharing From.
- Select the Apple device you want to use as the location source.
Sharing can also be paused or stopped entirely from the same area. Because the shared location now comes from another device, it will reflect that device’s position, not the iPhone you are holding.
Method 4: Simulate a location in Xcode for developer testing
Apple supports simulated locations in Xcode so developers can test location-aware behavior without travelling. You can simulate a fixed coordinate or a route, including routes loaded from GPX files. This workflow is for developers building and debugging apps. It is not a setting on a consumer iPhone.

- This pre-owned product is not Apple certified, but has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
- There will be no visible cosmetic imperfections when held at an arm’s length.
- This product is eligible for a replacement or refund within 90 days of receipt if you are not satisfied.
- Product may come in generic Box.
The scope matters. Apple documents that a simulated location set through a test plan changes the location only for code running in the test bundle. Simulated location is not applied to the whole device, and UI automation has its own separate approach in Apple’s documentation. Consult Apple’s Xcode documentation for the current menu names in your Xcode version.
Comparing the four methods
The table below compares the methods by what they change, who they are for, and whether they alter the iPhone’s own GPS position.

| Method | What it changes | Who it is for | Changes the iPhone’s GPS position? |
|---|---|---|---|
| App access or Precise Location | One app’s permission and location precision | Everyday users | No. The app gets approximate or precise data about the real position. |
| Location Services off (global or per app) | Whether apps and features can use location at all | Everyday users | No. Location is not reported to apps; emergency calls are an exception. |
| Find My sharing source | Which device’s location is shared with others in Find My | Everyday users with Find My sharing | No. Only the shared location changes. |
| Xcode simulated location | Input to code running in a test bundle | Developers | No. Applies only to test code, not to the device’s system location. |
What these methods do not do
A VPN does not change your iPhone’s GPS position. It can change the IP address that websites see, which some services use for a rough, network-based estimate of where you are. That is a different signal, and it does not alter what Location Services reports to apps.
Apple’s documentation does not cover third-party apps that claim to fake GPS. There is no verified basis in the sources checked for saying that any such app works on iOS 27, and promises of that kind should be treated with caution.
Check your iOS version before following the steps
Apple’s user-guide pages for Location Services and Find My were available under iOS 27 paths when checked. That does not by itself confirm the public release status of iOS 27. To see your build, open Settings > General > About and read the iOS Version line. If your menus use different labels from the ones above, your installed version may differ from the version these steps describe, so use Apple’s documentation for your build.
