In Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories, Karia’s body shape is linked to eating during snack breaks. With body-shape change enabled, her model responds to how much she eats; with the feature disabled, her shape remains unchanged regardless of snack consumption. Gust has also announced a lock control for holding a preferred shape. For body shape specifically, Gust describes the trigger as the amount Karia eats during snacks. That means the relevant action is eating in the game’s snack context, not simply opening an inventory or carrying food. The published information does not establish a direct “make her slimmer” or “make her fuller” command, nor does it identify individual foods that guarantee one result.

Gust’s feature page states: “Karia’s body changes based on what she eats.” A later setting announcement, quoted by Nintendo Life in 2026, clarifies that the player can decide whether the visual change is active: “When the feature is turned ON, Karia’s body shape will change depending on how much she eats during snacks. When it is turned OFF, her body shape will not change no matter how much she eats.”

Those statements establish three separate points:
- Eating is the trigger context for appearance changes.
- The quantity consumed during snacks affects whether the model changes when the feature is on.
- An off switch prevents body-shape changes even when Karia continues to eat.
They do not publish a conversion chart from food to body type. Until the shipped game exposes those details, treat the system as quantity-based and adjustable through settings, not as a menu for selecting a named body preset.
Step-by-step: change Karia’s shape through normal play
The following procedure uses only actions and options described in the available announcements. Because the final interface labels have not been documented, the steps explain what to look for without inventing a button path.

- Use the lock control when available. Gust has announced a way to lock a preferred body shape. Select the shape you want to keep and enable the lock, if that control appears in your version. The announcement does not specify the final wording, menu path or whether the lock is available from the first moment of play.
This process gives you control over whether the appearance can change and whether a preferred result can be held. It does not let you enter a numeric weight or select a precise body measurement, because no such control has been documented.

The lock and the off switch solve different problems. Turning the feature off prevents the shape from changing. Locking is intended to preserve a preferred shape after you have reached it. Which foods count?
The official feature page lists three broad categories Karia can eat: ingredients, cooked food and synthesized items. The body-shape announcement narrows the visual trigger to the amount she eats during snacks, but it does not say that one category is stronger than another.
Ingredients
Ingredients are explicitly included among the foods Karia can eat. The published material does not provide a per-ingredient body-shape effect, serving size or threshold. Do not assume that a rare ingredient, a high-quality ingredient or a particular color automatically makes Karia slimmer or fuller.

Cooked food
Cooked dishes are also supported by the eating system. A dish may have gameplay consequences beyond appearance because Gust says eating changes abilities as well as the model. However, no official chart links a named recipe to a specific silhouette.

Synthesized items complete the three food categories named on the feature page. Their inclusion means the system is not limited to one narrow class of consumables. The available announcement still measures body-shape change by how much Karia eats during snacks, not by a published list of item-specific transformations.
Can you make Karia slimmer or fuller?
You can influence whether her body changes by controlling the feature and by changing how much she eats during snack breaks, but the available documentation does not promise a direct slimmer/fuller selector. The feature was announced before the final interface details were published. If you cannot find a body-shape toggle or lock, work through the following checks before assuming the mechanic is absent.
- Check that you are looking in gameplay or system options. The announcement describes an on/off feature, but it does not identify whether the control is in a general settings menu, a character screen or the snack interface.
- Confirm that the game is updated. The quoted announcement describes intended functionality; the menu may use different wording or become visible only in a later build or after an introductory event.
- Look for alternate wording. Search for terms such as body shape, body change, appearance change, shape change or lock. Do not expect the exact phrase used in the announcement to be the final label.

Edition and release considerations
Gust and Koei Tecmo’s official product information lists a Physical Version, a Digital Version and a Premium Box. The Premium Box listing includes an artbook, extra music tracks, nine A4 water-resistant posters and an early costume download code; the listing warns that names and contents may change.
Those are package differences, not documented body-shape rules. The available information does not say that one edition uses different shape thresholds or removes the setting. Verify the live listing, platform, region and final contents before purchase, and use the game’s current in-app options as the authority for the feature’s actual interface.
A practical checklist
- Open the settings or gameplay options and locate the body-shape control.
