Start in Settings. Windows 11 may show a Cursor blink rate slider under Accessibility > Text cursor, but Microsoft’s current accessibility guidance for Windows 11 documents only cursor thickness and a text cursor indicator on that page, not blink timing. A Windows Central report describes the slider on that page in a specific Windows 11 build. If your installation does not show it, the legacy Control Panel Speed tab is the next place to look, though Microsoft’s documentation for that route is written for Windows XP and does not confirm it appears on every Windows 11 version.
Check the Text cursor page in Settings first
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Select Accessibility, then select Text cursor.
- Look for a Cursor blink rate slider. If it is there, drag it to the speed you want and check the result in a text editor or browser address bar.
- If the slider is not there, go to Settings > System > About and note the OS build under Windows specifications. Compare it with the build named in the Windows Central report you are reading. A missing slider on a build that report does not cover is not a fault; it simply means the control is not confirmed on your installation.
The slider’s range on the Settings page is not described in Microsoft’s current guidance. The older Control Panel control, covered below, runs from None to Fast.

Use the legacy Control Panel Speed tab
- Search the Start menu for Control Panel and open it.
- Select Keyboard.
- Select the Speed tab.
- Drag the Cursor blink rate slider, then select Apply and OK.
If the Speed tab has no blink rate slider, that is consistent with Microsoft’s documentation only covering the older Windows XP interface. In that case, the blink interval is not adjustable through this dialog on your installation, and the Settings page is the only place to check.

If the goal is to make the cursor easier to see rather than to change how fast it flashes, Microsoft’s Windows 11 accessibility guidance covers two options on the same Settings page. Neither changes blink timing.

Blink rate, caret blink time, and blink timeout are different things
- Blink rate is the interval at which the cursor flashes on and off. This is the setting the Settings page and Speed tab are meant to control.
- Caret blink time is a value that software developers can set programmatically through Microsoft’s SetCaretBlinkTime API. It is developer reference material, not a consumer walkthrough, and it does not by itself create a Windows 11 Settings control.
- Blink timeout is how long a text caret keeps blinking before it stops. Individual applications may impose their own timeouts. This guide did not establish a current Windows 11 user-facing timeout control, so do not assume one exists.
What is not established
No registry-based method is included here. Microsoft’s current user-facing guidance does not describe one for changing blink rate in Windows 11, so this article does not recommend editing the registry for it. If the Settings slider and the Control Panel Speed tab are both absent, the honest outcome is that blink timing is not exposed on that installation, and the visibility options above are the supported alternatives.
Microsoft’s accessibility pages and Windows builds change over time, so verify the Text cursor page on your own device before relying on any control described here.
