To choose a different starting area, open Server Manager from Satisfactory’s main menu, select your server, authenticate as an administrator, and use the Create Game tab. Choose Grass Fields, Rocky Desert, Northern Forest, or Dune Desert, enter a unique session name, and create the session. This starts a new game, so the existing factory progress is not carried into it.

If you want to keep the factory, do not create a new session. Relocate the HUB inside the existing world instead. The HUB determines the respawn point, while the factory and world remain intact.

What “starting area” means on a Satisfactory server
Satisfactory uses one connected world rather than four separate maps. The area selected when a session is created is the place where that session begins, but it does not permanently divide the world into separate regions. After the game starts, players can travel, build, and expand beyond the original area.
There are two different changes people often describe as changing the starting area:

- Creating a new session: selects a new initial region, but resets the playable progress associated with the session.
- Moving the HUB: changes where players respawn in the current world and preserves the factory.
Choose between those options before making a change. A new session is appropriate when you want a genuinely fresh start in another region. HUB relocation is the safer choice when the objective is simply to move the spawn point or establish a new operating base.
Starting-area choices
The Create Game screen offers four starting areas. The available guidance gives a specific difficulty warning only for Dune Desert; it does not establish a ranked difficulty for the other three areas.

The four names are the choices to look for on the Create Game tab. If an update changes the wording or layout, use the current in-game labels rather than relying on an older screenshot or menu description.
Decide whether you can accept a reset
Creating a session is not a cosmetic setting change. It generates a new game state, and the existing progress is erased from the session you are replacing. That includes the practical value of an established factory, so treat the operation as a restart rather than a relocation.
Use a new session when you want a fresh world start
Select this route if the point of the change is to begin progression in another region, with the opening area and early-game setup generated there. Plan for players to begin again rather than expecting the previous production lines, unlocks, or construction to appear in the new session.

Use HUB relocation when the factory matters
If your group has already invested in construction, logistics, or progression, moving the HUB is the preservation path. The HUB is the respawn point and can be moved at any time. Relocating it changes where players return after death without resetting the world or dismantling the factory.
Requirements and preparation
Confirm these items before opening the creation screen:
- Administrator access: Server Manager requires admin permissions for this operation. Have the administrator password available if the server asks for it.
- A clear choice between reset and preservation: Decide whether you are creating a new session or retaining the current world with a HUB move.
- A unique session name: Prepare a name that is not already used by another session on the server.
- Simple characters in the name: Avoid special characters and accented letters during initial generation. They can prevent the map from being generated successfully.
- Time for synchronization: Allow as much as one hour for the server to apply the change and synchronize the world before declaring it failed.
Record the current session name and the selected destination before you begin. That makes it easier to identify the intended session in Server Manager and to spot a selection error when the world loads.
Method 1: create a new session in another starting area
Follow this procedure when losing the current session’s progress is acceptable.
- Open Server Manager. Start Satisfactory and open Server Manager from the game’s main menu.
- Select the target server. Choose the server on which you want to create the new game.
- Authenticate as an administrator. Confirm that your account has admin permissions. Enter the administrator password first if the interface requests it.
- Open the Create Game tab. This is the screen that exposes the starting-area choices for a new session.
- Select one area. Choose Grass Fields, Rocky Desert, Northern Forest, or Dune Desert. Verify the highlighted selection before continuing.
- Enter a unique session name. Use a name that is not already in use. Keep it plain: avoid special characters and accented letters that can interfere with initial map generation.
- Create the game. Submit the Create Game action only after checking the area and name. This creates a new session and resets the previous progress associated with the replaced game.
- Wait for synchronization. The server may take up to one hour to sync the new world. Keep the selected area and session name noted while you wait.
- Verify the result. When the session becomes available, load it and confirm that the opening location matches the highlighted area chosen in step five.
Do not interpret a long synchronization period as proof that the wrong area was selected. The documented recovery is to repeat the creation steps and confirm the highlighted area, especially if the world fails to load.

What happens to progress after creating a new session
The new session should be treated as a reset. The prior factory is not moved to the newly selected starting area, and the old progression should not be expected to appear when the new world opens.
This distinction matters on a shared server. Tell other players that the operation changes the game state before you submit it, and schedule the change when nobody needs the existing factory. If preserving the build is a requirement, stop and use the HUB method instead.
Method 2: move the HUB and keep the factory
Use this method when “starting area” really means the place where players spawn or return after death.
- Join the existing session. Work in the world that contains the factory you want to preserve.
- Choose the desired operating area. Travel to the region where you want the group’s practical spawn point to be located.
- Relocate the HUB. Use the game’s in-world HUB relocation interaction. The exact button label can vary with the game build and server interface, so follow the prompt shown on screen.
- Confirm the move. Make sure the HUB is now registered at the new location before leaving the area.
- Test the respawn point. Have a player verify that the new HUB location is used when the game assigns the respawn point.
HUB relocation does not select a different world-generation region. It changes the respawn anchor in the world that already exists. The factory, explored map, and accumulated construction stay in place.

Choosing between the four areas
Grass Fields
Grass Fields is one of the four valid selections on the Create Game tab. The available guidance does not assign it a relative difficulty, so choose it based on your group’s own familiarity and the layout you want to learn rather than an unsupported ranking.

Rocky Desert
Rocky Desert is also a selectable new-session start. No specific difficulty, foliage supply, or water availability is established in the available instructions. Treat the name as the region selector, not as a promise about a particular progression speed.
Northern Forest
Northern Forest is the third standard choice. The documented procedure for selecting it is identical to the other regions: highlight it on Create Game, use a unique plain session name, and create the session.
Dune Desert
Dune Desert is characterized as the hardest option. Foliage and water are described as rare and contained, and it is recommended for advanced players. Select it deliberately if your group is prepared for those constraints; do not choose it accidentally because the area highlight was not checked before creation.

The Create Game tab is unavailable
Check permissions first. The procedure requires administrator access, and the server may require the administrator password before creation controls appear. Sign in with the account that has server-admin rights, then reopen Server Manager and select the server again.
The server does not load after creation
Allow up to one hour for synchronization. If the world still fails to load after that window, repeat the creation procedure. Recheck the highlighted area and confirm that the session name uses ordinary characters without accents or other special symbols.
The wrong region appears
Return to the Create Game screen and verify which area is highlighted before submitting. The documented recovery for a mismatched or failed generation is to repeat the steps with the intended region explicitly selected. Remember that this creates another new session and therefore does not restore the previous progress.
The session name is rejected
Replace accented letters, punctuation, and other special characters with a simple unique name. Initial map generation can be blocked by those characters, so use plain letters and numbers while diagnosing the problem.
The factory must be preserved
Do not create another session. Join the existing world and relocate the HUB instead. A new session cannot serve as a non-destructive spawn-point change.
Timing, updates, and menu differences
The menu sequence described here comes from hosting guidance, including a guide that is roughly four years old. Satisfactory server interfaces can change, so the tab or button wording may not be identical in every current build. The stable concepts are the same: administrator authentication, a Create Game screen with four area choices, a unique session name, and a synchronization period that can last up to an hour.
If your menu looks different, do not select a destructive option merely because its label seems similar. Read the current prompt, confirm whether it says Create Game or relocate the HUB, and verify the highlighted area before accepting.
