Changing a Soulmask server map is a configuration change, not an in-game teleport. Stop the server, replace its map setting, save the configuration, and start it again. Cloud Mist Forest uses Level01_Main; Shifting Sands uses DLC_Level01_Main. A hosting panel usually exposes this as a Map field or a startup option. A self-hosted server receives the value as the first launch-command argument.

Each map has its own save data, so changing maps does not normally erase the progress stored on the other map. Shifting Sands has an additional requirement: every player who connects must own the DLC. If you want both maps available at the same time, you need two servers joined in a cluster rather than one server with a live map switch.

Map values you can use
The map name shown in a panel and the value required by the server executable are not always identical. Use the parameter, not a translated display name, when editing a command line.

The 1.0 release is generally dated 10 April 2026. Several 2026 references put the free-claim period for Shifting Sands at 10 May 2026; that window had ended by 14 October 2026. Current ownership and availability terms are not established by the server documentation, so check the game platform before promising new players access.

One hosting article lists the release year as 2025, which conflicts with the other dated references and appears to be a date error. It does not change the map parameters or the procedure below.
Before you change anything
Make the change during a maintenance period. The server must be stopped before most panels will apply a map value, and players connected during a restart can lose unsaved activity.

- Record the current map so you can return to it if necessary.
- If your host offers an automatic backup or file snapshot, create one before editing the setting.
- Confirm that the target map is supported by your game-server build and host plan.
- For Shifting Sands, tell every player to verify DLC ownership before the restart.
- Keep the current save untouched until players have confirmed that the new map loads correctly.
Do not delete save folders to change maps. Soulmask stores progress per map; deleting files is a separate, destructive action and is not part of a map switch.
Method 1: Change the map in a hosting panel
This is the simplest method when a provider exposes a map selector. Labels differ, but the sequence is consistent: stop, edit, save, start.
- Open the provider’s server control panel and select the Soulmask instance.
- Click Stop and wait until the panel reports that the process is fully stopped. Editing while the process is still shutting down can leave the old startup value active.
- Open the configuration area. Depending on the provider, this may be called Config, Startup, Settings, or Commandline Manager.
- Find the map control. Choose Cloud Mist Forest for the default world or Shifting Sands for the DLC world. If the panel displays raw values, enter the corresponding parameter from the table above.
- Click Save, Apply, or the equivalent control. Wait for a confirmation that the setting was written.
- Start the server and watch the console or startup log until the process finishes loading.
- Connect with an administrator account first. Confirm the world name and that expected characters and structures are present before announcing that the server is open.
How common panels label the setting
Provider documentation demonstrates several variations. On Shockbyte, the documented path is to stop the server, open the Config tab, set the desired map, save, and restart. Oxygenserv describes a Map variable in the Startup tab. EmeraldHost uses a map value under a Settings menu on some panels. Pingperfect exposes the choice through its Commandline Manager, including a Shifting Sands option.

These names are examples, not a universal interface. If your panel has both a general configuration page and a startup-command editor, use the control that actually writes the launch command. A map value entered in an informational field will have no effect if the startup command still contains the old value.

Look for an advanced startup or command-line section. Some hosts hide map options behind an Advanced, Variables, or Launch parameters link. If the provider supplies a generated command, edit the map variable rather than replacing the entire command. Removing other arguments can affect networking, administration, or save locations.
If the panel offers no map field and does not allow command-line editing, ask the host whether Soulmask map parameters are supported on that service. Do not upload an executable or alter unrelated files simply to force a map; the provider may overwrite those changes at the next restart.
Method 2: Change the map on a self-hosted server
A self-hosted installation uses the same parameters but exposes them in the process command. The first argument after the Soulmask server executable selects the map.
- Stop the running Soulmask server process cleanly.
- Open the script, shortcut, service definition, or terminal command used to launch the server.
- Replace the existing first map argument with the parameter for the map you want.
- Leave the remaining server arguments unchanged unless you have a separate reason to modify them.
- Save the script or service definition.
- Launch the server and inspect its console output for a successful world load.

Your installation path, service wrapper, or additional arguments may differ. If your launcher already supplies a map argument, change that existing value instead of adding a second one; duplicate values can make it unclear which setting the process uses.
Service and script checks
When a self-hosted server is managed by a service, edit the service’s actual startup definition, not a temporary command typed into a separate terminal. A scheduled task, batch file, container definition, or management script may recreate the old command on every boot. After editing, restart through the same service mechanism and verify the effective command in the service log.
Keep a copy of the previous command. Reverting is then a one-line change and does not require reconstructing other launch options from memory.
What happens to saves, buildings, and characters
Map saves are separate
Progress is maintained per map. Switching from Cloud Mist Forest to Shifting Sands does not merge the worlds, and it does not delete the Cloud Mist Forest save. If you later set the server back to its original parameter and restart, that map’s previous progress should be available again.

Because each map has its own save, a structure built on one world will not appear on the other. Treat the switch as opening a different world, not as moving the existing world to new terrain. Warn players that storage, bases, resource locations, and map-specific exploration remain where they were created.

Character transfer is not consistent across sources
Documentation disagrees about what happens to a character when a new map is created. EmeraldHost says players are prompted to create a new character after a map change. A Steam community Q&A from the official community says a character can be carried over when creating a new map, but only character data transfers; buildings and resources do not.
These statements may reflect different game builds or different meanings of “new map.” Do not promise a particular character result to your community. Test the exact build and configuration you operate with an administrator or a disposable account first. Before switching a live server, ask players to record character names and important progression so an unexpected prompt can be identified quickly.
Shifting Sands ownership and connection failures
Ownership is required for every person joining a Shifting Sands server. The host’s DLC ownership alone is insufficient. A player without the DLC may be unable to load the world even when the server is configured correctly.

- Confirm the server parameter is the Shifting Sands value, not merely a display label.
- Have each player verify that the DLC is attached to the account they use to launch Soulmask.
- Restart the server after the setting is saved.
- Test with one account known to own the DLC before inviting the full group.
- Give players the exact error text they see when reporting a failed connection; “cannot join” does not distinguish ownership from a server-start problem.
The end of the historical free-claim window does not itself prove that the DLC is unavailable. It only means the dated promotional period was over by 14 October 2026. Use the current platform listing for present purchase or entitlement information.

A single Soulmask server can load one map at a time. To let players use both worlds concurrently and travel between them through a shared setup, run two servers as a cluster. One instance loads Cloud Mist Forest and the other loads Shifting Sands.
Clustering is a separate architecture decision, not a checkbox that turns one process into two maps. Plan for two server allocations, two running processes, and the provider’s supported cluster configuration. The documentation cited for this setup does not establish a universal player-transfer rule, so confirm how your host implements travel and identity sharing before moving a live community.
Troubleshooting after a map change
The old map still loads
- Check that the server was fully stopped before editing.
- Confirm the new value was saved or applied, rather than changed only in an unsaved form field.
- Look for a second startup definition. A panel variable, command-line override, service file, or script can supersede the setting you edited.
- Read the startup log and identify the effective map argument.
- Stop and start again through the provider’s normal controls; a browser refresh or console reconnect is not a server restart.
The server starts but the map appears empty
First make sure you are looking at the intended map. The worlds have separate saves, so a first visit to a map can legitimately lack the bases and storage players built elsewhere. Do not delete files or restore an unrelated save while diagnosing this symptom. Return to the previous map parameter to confirm that its original progress remains available.

Players are asked to create a character
This can be part of the version-dependent character behavior described above. Stop before accepting a destructive-looking prompt on a live account. Test with the game build you run, and document whether your server offers a character carry-over option. Character data and world structures are separate concerns; a successful character transfer would not move buildings or resources.
Players cannot join Shifting Sands
Check DLC ownership for each affected account first. Then confirm that the server really loaded the DLC map value and that the player is connecting to the restarted instance rather than an old process. If only some players fail, compare their entitlements; if nobody can join, inspect the server startup log and map setting.
The panel has a different menu than the guide
Panel products change labels and layouts. Search the panel for Map, Startup, Commandline, or Variables, and use the provider’s current documentation for the exact click path. The underlying requirement remains the same: write one map parameter, save it, and restart the server.
How to switch back safely
- Notify players that the server will return to the other world.
- Stop the server and wait for a complete shutdown.
- Restore the previous map parameter in the panel or launch command.
- Save the configuration and start the server.
- Verify the map and the expected save with an administrator account.
- Tell players which world is active so they do not interpret the separate save as lost progress.
Switching back is reversible as long as you leave each map’s save data in place. Avoid “cleanup” actions that remove old saves just to reduce storage; that turns a reversible configuration change into permanent data loss.
Choosing the right method

For a one-time event or a small community, a panel switch is usually less error-prone because the provider handles the process restart. Command-line editing is appropriate when you control the server directly or need the change in a repeatable deployment script. Neither method combines saves or removes the DLC requirement.
