On a Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2) or American Truck Simulator (ATS) dedicated server, a moderator can change the world clock from the in-game chat with /set_time <HH:MM>. For example, /set_time 18:30 requests 6:30 p.m. The moderator must already be loaded into the world by pressing Drive; entering the command before that point may not work.

Before anyone can use the command, the server operator must grant moderator status. On a self-hosted server, that means adding the player’s SteamID64 to moderator_list in server_config.sii. A Docker-based convoy-server deployment can instead use its ETS_SERVER_MODERATORS environment option. The command and permission workflow are reported for both games, but older documentation means you should test the syntax on the exact server build you run.

Use the moderator chat command:
/set_time HH:MMReplace HH:MM with the desired clock time. A typical example is:
/set_time 18:30The command is entered in the game’s chat box, not in the operating system terminal. Community dedicated-server guides and the SCS Modding Wiki describe it as an administrator or moderator command. The moderator should join the server, click Drive to enter the simulated world, open chat, and then submit the command.

Time format
HHrepresents the hour.MMrepresents the minutes.- Use a four-digit, 24-hour-style value such as
07:15,12:00, or23:45. - Do not include angle brackets when typing the command; they indicate a placeholder.
The available documentation does not establish whether malformed values are corrected, rejected, or silently ignored. Use valid hour-and-minute values and check the resulting world time after submitting the command.
What you need before changing the time
- Access to the ETS2 or ATS dedicated-server configuration, or to the environment settings for your container deployment.
- The SteamID64 of every player who should have moderator access.
- A server restart window, because the configuration-file method requires stopping and starting the server.
- A moderator who can join successfully and reach the world with the Drive button.
There is no documented server interface for promoting a player while the server is already running. Configure the moderator list first, restart the server, and have the player reconnect so the permission is applied when they join.

1. Stop the server cleanly
Stop the dedicated server before editing its configuration. This prevents the running process from overwriting your changes when it exits or reloads its files. If your service manager, control panel, or startup script offers a normal Stop action, use that rather than killing the process abruptly.
2. Open server_config.sii
Find the server’s configuration directory and open server_config.sii in a plain-text editor. The file is generated automatically on the first launch according to the SCS dedicated-server documentation. If it does not exist, start the server once, stop it, and check the configuration directory again.
Make a backup copy before editing. Keep the original filename and the SII syntax intact; do not save the file as rich text or add a second extension such as .txt.
3. Add SteamID64 values to the moderator list
Locate the moderator_list entries and add the SteamID64 for each moderator. The SCS example uses indexed entries beginning with moderator_list[0], followed by moderator_list[1], moderator_list[2], and so on. Preserve the formatting already used in your file.

moderator_list[0]: "STEAMID64_FOR_FIRST_MODERATOR"
moderator_list[1]: "STEAMID64_FOR_SECOND_MODERATOR"The exact surrounding syntax can vary with the generated file, so copy the style of the existing entries instead of replacing the entire configuration. Use the player’s numeric SteamID64, not a display name or a nickname. A typo gives that player no moderator permission.
4. Save, then start the server
Save the edited file and start the dedicated server. The server reads the moderator list during startup. Have each listed player join after the restart; promotion occurs when they connect.
5. Load into the world
After joining, wait until the normal game screen shows the Drive button. Click Drive and wait for the player to enter the world. Host guides specifically place the command after this loading step.
6. Submit the chat command
Open the in-game chat box and enter a value such as:

/set_time 06:00Send the message. Then observe the world clock or lighting conditions to confirm that the requested time was applied. If the server reports an unknown command or nothing changes, use the troubleshooting section below before changing unrelated configuration values.
Granting moderators in a Docker deployment
A community ETS2/ATS convoy-server container documents an ETS_SERVER_MODERATORS environment option. It accepts Steam IDs and is intended to give those players moderator capabilities, including the ability to alter server time.

Set the option in the same deployment definition that holds the other container environment variables, then recreate or restart the container so the value is loaded. Keep the SteamID64 values exactly as required by that image’s configuration format. Because container images and compose files can differ, inspect the image’s own variable syntax before choosing separators or quoting rules.
Once the container has restarted, the in-game portion is unchanged: the listed player joins, presses Drive, opens chat, and sends /set_time HH:MM. If the variable is present but the command remains unavailable, inspect the container logs and verify that the running container received the variable rather than only the host shell.
Rented or panel-managed servers
Some game-hosting panels expose server configuration files or a moderator field, while others hide the underlying files. The documented command still requires moderator privileges, but the panel-specific way to grant them depends on the provider and panel version.
- Stop the server from the panel.
- Look for a file manager, configuration editor, or moderator/administrator setting.
- Add the player’s SteamID64 to the server’s moderator list using the panel’s documented format.
- Save the change and restart the server.
- Join, press Drive, and test
/set_time HH:MM.
Do not assume that a panel’s console text box is equivalent to the in-game chat box. The verified workflow for this command is the chat box used by a moderator who is already in the world.
How to tell whether the change worked
- The command is sent from a player account that is actually listed as a moderator.
- The player joined after the server was restarted with the updated configuration.
- The player clicked Drive and finished loading into the world.
- The command begins with the slash and uses a valid
HH:MMvalue. - The requested time is visible in the game world or clock after submission.
Keep a note of the exact command and time used when testing. That makes it easier to distinguish a permission problem from a formatting problem.
Troubleshooting common failures
“Unknown command” or no response
First check the account’s moderator status. Confirm the SteamID64 in server_config.sii or the Docker environment option, then restart the server and reconnect. A player added while the server is running may not be promoted until the next join.

Next, confirm that the player has pressed Drive. The host instructions place /set_time after world loading, not in the connection screen, lobby, or server browser.
The command works for one moderator but not another
Compare the two SteamID64 entries character by character. Check for a missing digit, an accidental space, a duplicated index, or a value entered under a different configuration file than the one the server actually loads. Restart after correcting the list and have the affected player reconnect.
The server will not start after editing the file
Restore the backup and confirm that only the intended moderator entries were changed. Common editing mistakes include saving with rich-text formatting, changing quotation marks, deleting an index, or introducing a second file extension. Once the server starts with the backup, reapply one small change at a time.
The time does not appear to change
Use a clearly different value, such as 06:00 instead of a value close to the current clock, and watch the in-game clock after sending it. Verify that the command was submitted to the game chat and that the player is in the world. If the command is accepted but the result is inconsistent, record the server version and test again on a controlled session; the available guides do not document every version’s behavior.
A restart seems to undo the selected time
Do not assume that a manually set clock is a permanent server setting. The sources document changing the active in-game time with a command, but they do not establish persistence across restarts. If your community needs a repeatable schedule, test the behavior on your build and consult the server’s current documentation rather than treating one successful change as a persistent configuration.

The same moderator chat mechanism is reported to provide:
/set_rain_factor <0 to 1>to set the rain factor within the documented zero-to-one range./helpto display available moderator commands.
These commands use the same permission context. Test them on a non-public session before relying on them during an event, because command availability can vary with the server build.
Do not confuse /set_time with g_set_time
/set_time is the documented in-game chat command for a moderator on a dedicated multiplayer server. A separate SCS wiki page describes a console-side command named g_set_time, but the available material does not verify that console variant for the dedicated-server workflow covered here. Do not substitute it for the verified chat procedure unless the current documentation for your exact build explicitly confirms it.

Most published instructions for this feature are older. A host guide dated July 2026 says much of its ETS2 and ATS dedicated-server content is shared, while the indexed SCS dedicated-server page has cached copies with differing details and is roughly 1,000 days old in the search index. No current source in the available material confirms that /set_time is unchanged in every latest game release.
For that reason, treat the command, moderator-list format, and Docker variable as a tested procedure rather than a promise about every future version. Record your game version, dedicated-server package, and container image tag when you validate it. If an update changes command behavior, check the live SCS documentation and the image documentation before altering production files.

Bottom line
To change the active in-game time on an ETS2 or ATS dedicated server, give a player moderator rights, restart so the permission is loaded, have that moderator press Drive, and run /set_time HH:MM in the in-game chat. The configuration-file method is the documented route for self-hosted servers; Docker deployments can use ETS_SERVER_MODERATORS. Because version-specific confirmation is limited, validate the command after game, server, or container updates.
