Change Save Page WE’s filename template in the extension’s Options. Choose a browser-specific route to open those options, then combine fields such as %TITLE%, %HOST%, and %DATE(x)% to shape the names used for saved pages and extracted media.
Open Save Page WE’s options
- Firefox: Right-click the Save Page WE toolbar button, choose Manage Extension, open the three-dot menu, then choose Options.
- Chrome: Right-click the Save Page WE toolbar button and choose Options.
In Options, find the setting for the format of the saved file name. The official extension listings document that setting, but do not establish a more exact field label or a version-independent screenshot of the current interface, so the wording may vary by browser or extension version.

Build a filename template
Enter the fields you want in the saved filename format. Save Page WE supports page-title, URL, date/time, query-string, and fragment fields. The same format applies when saving a complete page and when extracting an image, audio, or video resource.

Choose a format for your filing needs
- Readable names: Use
%TITLE%when you want the page title to identify the saved page. - Source traceability: Combine a title or filename with
%HOST%or%PATH%to retain information about where the page came from. - Sorting and repeated captures: Add a saved-date or saved-time field. The date and time fields use year-month-day and hour-minute-second order, respectively; choose a separator with the optional
x.
Save Page WE also lets you set a replacement character for spaces and a maximum filename length. Its saved HTML file uses the .html extension by default. The documented options do not specify how every operating system or download configuration handles all possible filename characters, so inspect the resulting filename in your own browser.

Save a page and verify the result
- After changing the format, save a page using Save Page WE.
- Check the downloaded filename to see whether the selected fields resolve as expected.
- If the name is unexpected, check the save method and whether another download extension is changing it.
Understand save-method differences
Save Page WE documents an old and a new save method, and behavior differs by browser. The old method remembers the last save location in Firefox and Chrome, but the extension listing warns that it may fail on some pages in Chrome 84 or later. The new method can save more pages; Mozilla’s listing says it remembers the last location in Firefox 78 or later but not in Chrome. The listings also warn that another download extension may change the saved filename to a UUID when the new method is used. These are documented behaviors from separate platform listings, not a guarantee for every later browser or extension version.
Troubleshoot unexpected filenames or saves
- The title-based name is missing:
%TITLE%falls back to%FILE%when the page has no document title. Try a format that includes URL fields if you need source context. - The downloaded name is a UUID: Check whether another download extension is active, especially when using the new save method; the listings identify this as a possible cause.
- The save fails on a Chrome page: If using the old save method in Chrome 84 or later, the listing warns that it may fail on some pages. Consider the new method where available.
- The save location is not remembered: The new method is documented as remembering the last location in Firefox 78 or later, but not Chrome. The old method is documented as remembering it in both browsers.
- A token produces a different result than expected: Check the field’s documented meaning—for example,
%FILEW%omits the extension suffix and%HOSTW%omits awww.prefix—and make a test save.

Save Page WE saves a web page, while ScreenshotNeo captures a screenshot or PDF; use a screenshot when a visual record is what you need rather than a saved HTML page. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its clean-shot workflow accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. AI agents can use its MCP server tools, including take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.
One GET request can return a screenshot. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.
