Change the DayDurationInSeconds value inside the GameTimeModifiers object in the server settings JSON, then restart the server. This value controls the real-time length of one complete day-and-night cycle; it does not change the in-game clock hours. Because hosts store and expose the file differently, first verify which settings file your server actually reads.

What the day-length setting changes
V Rising’s cycle length is controlled by DayDurationInSeconds. The number is the amount of real-world time required for one complete in-game day-and-night cycle. For example, 1440 represents 24 real-world minutes for a full cycle, while 1800 represents 30 minutes.

The setting does not redefine the 24-hour clock. It changes the speed at which that clock moves through a complete cycle. Daylight hours remain governed by separate settings: DayStartHour, DayStartMinute, DayEndHour, and DayEndMinute. If you want a longer night but the same total cycle, adjust the start and end times rather than only changing the duration.

Before you edit the server
- Stop the server completely. Editing while the process is running can be overwritten when the server saves its current state.
- Record the current value. The commonly reported default is
1080seconds, but that figure comes from an older guide and may not match your current game build or host template. - Back up the original file. Download it or make a copy with a date in the filename so you can restore it if the server fails to start.
- Confirm the active file. Many hosts offer several JSON files, presets, or generated configurations. A correctly edited file has no effect if the server reads a different one.
- Plan a private test. The available documentation is primarily from hosting guides and community posts rather than an official Stunlock Studios reference. Test your chosen value on a private server before changing a live community world.
Find the settings file your server uses
There is no single path that applies to every V Rising installation. Hosting documentation identifies several arrangements, and they conflict with one another. Your control panel may expose a text editor, generate a file from a preset, or hide the physical path entirely.

Use the file browser, configuration editor, or support documentation provided by your host to identify the active file. If several files contain GameTimeModifiers, change one at a time and confirm the result in a private test rather than editing all of them indiscriminately.

Change the value in a JSON file
- Stop the V Rising server. Wait until the panel reports that the process is offline, not merely that a stop command has been issued.
- Open the active settings file. Depending on the host, this may be
ServerGameSettings.json, a file inVRisingServer_Data/StreamingAssets/Settings, or a custom preset underGameSettingPresets. - Search for
GameTimeModifiers. Use the editor’s search function. If the object is missing, do not invent a second copy elsewhere in the file; determine whether your host uses a preset or a different settings file. - Locate
DayDurationInSeconds. Replace only the number after the colon. Keep the property name, quotation marks, colon, and comma formatting intact. - Enter a whole number of seconds. For example, use
1440for 24 minutes or1800for 30 minutes. Do not enter text such as30 minutes. - Save the file. If the editor offers both “Save” and “Apply,” use both. Some panels discard unsaved editor contents when you leave the page.
- Check the JSON syntax. A missing comma, extra comma, or unmatched brace can prevent the server from loading. If your editor has a JSON validation command, run it before closing the file.
- Start or restart the server. The setting is normally read during startup. A restart is required even when the panel appears to accept the change immediately.
- Test the cycle in a private session. Observe the in-game clock and compare the elapsed real time with your selected duration before applying the setting to a public server.

}Do not remove the other time properties merely because you are changing the cycle length. They determine when the daylight interval begins and ends.
Change it through a hosting control panel
Some hosts expose game settings as form fields instead of requiring direct JSON editing. The labels and menu names are not standardized, so an exact click path cannot be guaranteed across providers. Look for a server-settings, gameplay, world, or advanced-configuration area, then search for “day duration,” “day length,” or the exact key DayDurationInSeconds.

- Stop the server from the panel.
- Open the settings or configuration editor associated with the active V Rising instance.
- Find the field corresponding to
GameTimeModifiers.DayDurationInSeconds. - Enter the number of seconds and save the configuration.
- If the panel has a separate “regenerate,” “deploy,” or “apply template” action, use it only when the panel documentation says it writes the active file. Regeneration can overwrite manual changes.
- Restart the server and verify the value in the generated JSON, if the panel permits viewing it.
If a panel shows a friendly duration such as “30 minutes,” confirm whether it expects minutes or seconds. The underlying game setting is expressed in seconds; entering 30 in a field that expects seconds would produce a 30-second cycle.
Choose a practical duration
The following conversions help you select a value. They are arithmetic examples, not promises about how a particular host labels its presets.

ServerBlend’s guide reports an allowed range of 60 to 86,400 seconds. Treat that as a guide-specific range rather than a guarantee for every game version or host. If your server rejects a value inside that range, consult the host’s current configuration rules and inspect the startup log for validation errors.
A duration changes both daylight and darkness proportionally unless you also change the start and end times. Doubling the duration from 1,080 to 2,160 seconds makes every part of the cycle last twice as long; it does not, by itself, create a longer daylight percentage.

Control when daylight starts and ends
Use the four clock settings when your goal is to change the balance between daylight and night:
DayStartHour: the hour on the 24-hour in-game clock when daytime begins.DayStartMinute: the minute within that starting hour.DayEndHour: the hour when daytime ends.DayEndMinute: the minute within that ending hour.
For example, a configuration beginning at 08:00 and ending at 18:00 creates a different daylight window from one beginning at 06:00 and ending at 20:00, even when both use the same DayDurationInSeconds. The duration controls how quickly the clock traverses the full 24-hour cycle; the start and end values define which clock interval is considered day.

Change these fields carefully. A typo in an hour or minute may produce an unexpected daylight period, while a syntactically valid value can still create a schedule your players dislike. Change one concept at a time—cycle speed first, daylight window second—so you can identify which setting caused a result.
Can you disable daytime or create permanent night?
There is no confirmed official procedure in the available documentation for disabling daytime entirely. A Steam Community post describes using 3600 together with both DayStartHour and DayEndHour set to 0 to seek permanent night. That is an anecdotal player configuration, not an officially documented feature, and it may behave differently across versions.

If you test this approach, make a backup first and use a private server. Watch at least one complete cycle, confirm whether daylight actually disappears, and check that other systems tied to the time of day still behave normally. If the result is invalid or the server fails to start, restore the backup rather than repeatedly changing values on a live world.

A generated preset may have replaced it during startup.
- Join with a test character and note the in-game clock.
- Measure real time while the clock advances. A value of
1440should represent 24 real minutes for a complete cycle, subject to measurement error and server pauses. - Observe both the beginning and end of daylight if you changed the start or end settings.
- Review the server log for JSON parsing, unknown-property, or range-validation errors.
Keep in mind that a stopped server does not advance its cycle while offline. Compare timings while the server is running and avoid drawing conclusions from a restart gap.
Troubleshoot common failures
The server starts, but the day length is unchanged
- You edited a file that the server does not read. Recheck the active path or panel preset.
- The host regenerated its configuration from a template. Apply the value in the template or disable regeneration if the host supports that choice.
- The panel expects minutes while the JSON key expects seconds. Inspect the saved JSON to see the actual number passed to the server.
- The server was not fully restarted. Stop it, wait for the process to exit, then start it again.
The server will not start after the edit
- Restore the backup immediately to confirm that the edit caused the failure.
- Check for a missing comma, unmatched brace, or accidental quotation mark.
- Make sure
DayDurationInSecondsremains a numeric value, not a quoted string. - Try a conservative whole-number value within the range documented by your host.
The setting keeps reverting
A control panel may generate ServerGameSettings.json from Custom.json or another preset each time the server starts. In that case, edit the source preset identified by the host, save it, and then regenerate or deploy it using the host’s documented workflow. Avoid editing both files randomly; the next regeneration may overwrite one of them and obscure which file is authoritative.
The cycle feels wrong even though the timing is correct
The duration may be working while the daylight window is not what you expected. Review DayStartHour, DayStartMinute, DayEndHour, and DayEndMinute. A longer total cycle does not automatically provide more daylight; it only stretches the existing clock schedule.
Operational advice for a live community
Changing the cycle affects every player on the server. A faster cycle can make sunlight and darkness arrive before players finish an activity, while a slower cycle can extend dangerous or inconvenient phases. Announce the planned restart and state the new full-cycle duration in real-world minutes so players understand the change.
Apply the setting during a maintenance window, retain the old value in your backup, and monitor the first complete cycle. If players report an unexpected result, record the exact JSON values and server version before reverting; otherwise, a later change may be impossible to diagnose.
Because the currently available guidance is not an official Stunlock Studios specification, treat reported defaults and limits as version-sensitive. The key name and nesting are consistent across the cited guides, but your host’s template, game update, or configuration system may impose different validation rules.
