Change an Abiotic Factor server’s clock by editing DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplier in the world’s SandboxSettings.ini. The accepted range is 0.1 to 3.0: values below 1.0 slow the cycle, 1.0 leaves the default speed, and values above 1.0 make day and night pass faster. Stop the server before saving the file, then start it again so the setting loads.

If you need a permanent daytime or nighttime world rather than a faster or slower clock, use DayNightCycleState. A value of 1 locks the world to day and 2 locks it to night. Locking the cycle can prevent items or events that require the opposite time from occurring, so a speed multiplier is usually the safer choice for a normal playthrough.

The day/night cycle is controlled by a sandbox value in the save world, not by a normal in-game slider. Open that world’s SandboxSettings.ini and find (or add) this line:

DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplier=2.0The number is a multiplier applied to the world clock. The default is 1.0, and the documented range is 0.1 through 3.0. A setting of 2.0 makes the cycle run twice as fast as the default; 0.5 makes it run at half the default speed. The value changes the passage of in-game day and night, not every timer in the game.
In particular, the setting does not also accelerate or slow unrelated cooldowns or respawn timers. If a machine, creature, or resource has its own timer, changing the clock multiplier should not be treated as a universal speed setting.

Stay within the documented range. Values outside it are not established as supported and may be clamped, ignored, or behave unpredictably after a game update.
Prepare the server before editing
Make the change while the server is offline. Host instructions for Abiotic Factor warn that an edit made while the process is running can be overwritten when the server saves or restarts. Stopping first also prevents two different copies of the configuration from being edited at once.

Use this short checklist
- Tell connected players that the world will be unavailable during the change.
- Use the host’s stop or shutdown control and wait until the server is fully stopped.
- Identify the correct world or save name; servers can contain more than one world folder.
- Make a backup copy of
SandboxSettings.inibefore changing it. - Edit only the target line, preserving the existing spelling, capitalization, equals sign, and file format.
The exact panel labels differ between providers, and no single universal click path is published. Look for a file manager, configuration editor, or save-file browser after the server has stopped.
Change the multiplier on a hosted server
For a managed server, the usual file location is:
AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds/<Save Name>/SandboxSettings.ini<Save Name> represents the folder for the world you actually run. Do not create a second configuration in a neighboring world folder and expect it to affect the active map.
- Stop the server. Use the host panel’s stop button and wait for a stopped or offline status.
- Open the world directory. In the file manager, browse to
AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Worlds/, then open the folder matching the save name. - Open
SandboxSettings.ini. Use the panel editor or download the file, edit it as plain text, and upload it again if the host requires that workflow. - Locate the speed entry. Search for
DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplier. If it already exists, change only the number after the equals sign. If it is absent, add a line in the same section and format used by the rest of the sandbox settings. - Enter a supported value. For example, a moderately faster cycle is
DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplier=1.5; the example2.0doubles the default clock speed. Keep the number between0.1and3.0. - Save the file. Confirm that the host reports a successful save or upload. If you edited a downloaded copy, make sure it replaced the server’s copy rather than remaining only on your computer.
- Start the server. Restart the instance and allow it to finish loading before testing the world.
Sandbox settings are edited in the file rather than through a server-console command. Host guides report that the console does not provide a supported command for changing this value, so entering the key at a console prompt is not a substitute for editing the save configuration.

The multiplier is best selected according to how much real-time waiting your group considers acceptable. The game does not publish a single universal “minutes per day” figure, so avoid converting a value into an exact clock duration unless you have measured that particular build yourself.

Slower than default
Use a value such as 0.5 when your group wants longer uninterrupted periods of daylight or darkness. This preserves transitions and therefore preserves time-dependent gameplay, while reducing how often the world changes state. The lower bound documented for the setting is 0.1; that is an extreme slowdown rather than a small adjustment.
Default speed
Use 1.0 to restore the game’s normal cycle. This is also a useful control value when troubleshooting: if a problem disappears at 1.0, test the changed multiplier again before altering other sandbox options.
Faster than default
Values such as 1.5 or 2.0 shorten the wait for the next sunrise or nightfall. The documented maximum is 3.0. A fast cycle can be useful for a server that treats darkness as an occasional hazard rather than a long phase, but it will also make transitions happen more frequently.

Place the state line in the same SandboxSettings.ini for the target world and restart the server using the same stop-edit-save-start sequence. Do not use a state lock and a speed multiplier as if they were two independent clocks: the state value determines whether the cycle is normal, fixed to day, or fixed to night.
Why a permanent lock can be a bad default
The game’s day and night conditions are not purely visual. The official wiki warns that some items or events occur only at a particular time. If the world is locked to day, anything requiring night may become unobtainable; an always-night world has the corresponding risk for daytime content. Use a lock for a deliberate challenge, building server, or test environment, and retain a backup so you can return to DayNightCycleState=0 when the group wants normal progression.
Keep power sockets on at night (optional)
PowerSocketsOffAtNight is related to nighttime behavior but does not set the length or speed of the day/night cycle. Its documented meanings are:

Change this only if your goal is electrical behavior during darkness. It will not make night shorter, extend daylight, or freeze the clock. Host documentation describes this setting with lower confidence than the core cycle keys, so verify its behavior in your current game build after changing it.
Verify that the new setting loaded
After the restart, join the affected world and observe a transition rather than judging the result from the server’s online status alone. A successful connection proves that the server started, not that the intended world file was read.
If the clock appears unchanged
- Confirm that the server was stopped before the edit and restarted afterward.
- Reopen the file and check that the line is spelled exactly
DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplier, with no stray spaces or duplicate keys that could cause the wrong entry to be read. - Check that you edited the active save folder under
Worlds/<Save Name>, not another world on the same account. - Make sure the value is numeric and within
0.1–3.0. - If the host offers separate “server settings” and “save files” areas, confirm that the change was made in the world’s
SandboxSettings.ini.
If the server rewrites the value
Stop it again, restore the backup, and repeat the edit with the server offline. A running instance may save its in-memory settings over the file when it shuts down. If the host automatically regenerates configuration files, check whether it has a save-file lock, template, or “apply configuration” action that must be used after editing.
If only some time-dependent content is missing
Inspect DayNightCycleState. A value of 1 or 2 deliberately prevents a normal transition and can block content tied to the other time of day. Set it to 0, restart, and test again before changing the speed multiplier.

To return to ordinary behavior, set:
DayNightCycleSpeedMultiplier=1.0
DayNightCycleState=0Save the file while the server is stopped, then start the server. If you want a slower or faster normal cycle, leave the state at 0 and change only the multiplier.
Hosted servers versus local or co-op worlds
The verified procedure and path above describe a hosted dedicated server. Local single-player and co-op save locations have not been established, so do not assume that the hosted directory exists on a personal installation. The same key names may be used elsewhere, but the correct file and whether a host exposes it through a panel must be confirmed for that environment and game version.
Likewise, panel terminology changes as hosting providers update their interfaces. The durable part of the procedure is the configuration key, the world-specific SandboxSettings.ini, and the requirement to stop before editing and restart afterward.
