Open Settings > General > Date & Time. To set the date and clock manually, turn off Set Automatically and enter the values you want. To choose a time zone, turn off automatic time-zone setting and search for a city. If you want the iPhone to correct its clock for you, turn automatic settings back on and check the location and connectivity settings below.
Change the date and time manually
- Open Settings.
- Tap General, then Date & Time.
- Turn off Set Automatically.
- Use the controls on the screen to enter the date and time.
Apple recommends manual adjustment when the displayed date, time, or time zone is still incorrect after checking automatic settings. Menu wording and availability can vary by iOS version and region. Apple’s iPhone user guide covers the date-and-time controls.

Set the iPhone time zone to a city
- Go to Settings > General > Date & Time.
- Turn off the automatic time-zone setting.
- Search for and select the city whose time zone you want to use.
Automatic time-zone selection is the usual setting. A manual city choice is useful if you do not want location-based selection or it is unavailable; remember that a manually selected zone may need updating when your circumstances change. Apple’s guide describes the city-selection route.

- Connect the iPhone to the internet.
- Open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically.
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services and make sure Setting Time Zone is enabled.
- Install the latest available iOS update if the clock remains incorrect.
If an alert says updated time-zone information is available, Apple advises restarting the iPhone and any paired Apple Watch. See Apple’s guidance for changing the time or time zone.

When “Set Automatically” is dimmed or does not work
A dimmed automatic-setting control does not necessarily mean the iPhone is broken. Apple says the option may be unavailable with some network providers or in some countries and regions. A Screen Time passcode or a corporate profile that restricts device settings can also prevent changes.
- Check that the iPhone is connected to the internet.
- Check that Setting Time Zone is enabled in Location Services system settings.
- If the setting is dimmed, consider whether a Screen Time restriction or a work or school management profile controls the device.
- If automatic correction still fails, turn it off and set the city or date and time manually.
Availability and labels can differ by carrier, country or region, and iOS version. Apple’s troubleshooting steps are in its date and time support article.

Use a 24-hour clock
To change only how hours are displayed, open Settings > General > Date & Time and switch on 24-Hour Time. This changes the clock format, not the date or time zone. Apple’s iPhone guide lists this display option.

Change the time zone shown in Calendar
Calendar has a separate Time Zone Override under Settings > Apps > Calendar. It changes the time zone shown in Calendar; it does not change the iPhone’s system time zone. For a single event in another time zone, set the time zone on that event instead. See Apple’s Calendar settings guide.

Why changing the clock to alter an app is a bad workaround
Apple cautions against manually changing time settings to affect app behavior, such as game timers. Use manual date or time changes to correct the clock or set a needed time zone, not as a way to manipulate app timing. Apple’s support article explains this caution.
