Redeem an Uber gift card in the Uber or Uber Eats app, then select the gift-card balance at checkout for an eligible ride or order. Before relying on it, check the card’s purchase country and currency, local expiry terms, and whether your transaction needs another payment method.
Redeem the gift card in the app
- Open the app. Use the Uber app for rides or the Uber Eats app for food orders.
- Go to Wallet or payment settings. In the Uber app, open Wallet; in Uber Eats, open the account’s payment or wallet section. The exact label can vary by app and market.
- Choose the gift-card option. Select Gift Card or the locally displayed equivalent, then enter the card code and submit it.
- Check that the value appears in your account. Once redeemed, the card is tied to that account and cannot be transferred to another Uber account. Uber’s gift-card page and its gift-card help page provide current redemption guidance.
Use the balance for an eligible ride or order
At checkout, review the selected payment method before you request a ride or place an order. Gift-card value may be selected automatically, but you can change the payment option before confirming. Uber describes gift cards as usable in its Uber and Uber Eats apps, subject to exclusions and local terms.

- Uber’s general gift-card page excludes Family Profiles, scheduled rides, and university campus card rides.
- If the balance is below the total, Uber’s UK Uber Money guidance says you may need another gift code or a different payment method. How any remaining amount is paid can depend on the market; do not assume every account can split a payment in the same way. See Uber’s UK guidance on gift cards with Uber Money.
- In the European Economic Area, some users may be asked to set up an Uber Money account and verify their identity. That requirement is not universal.
Check the card’s country, currency, and local terms
An Uber gift card is not automatically usable everywhere. Uber says a redeemed card can be spent only in countries that accept payment in the currency in which the card was issued. Check the purchase country and currency against the recipient’s intended use before buying or redeeming it.
Expiry rules also differ by market. For example, Uber’s cited EEA help page says unredeemed cards expire after one year in the described context; its Japan help page gives a three-year period; and Australian terms say cards must be redeemed within three years of activation, while redeemed balance does not expire under those terms. These are regional examples, not a global expiry policy. Consult the terms supplied with the card and the local Uber terms that apply to its purchase and use.
