To change the image behind Roku’s menus, open Home > Settings > Themes, then choose a wallpaper or apply a theme pack. If you mean the image shown while Roku is idle, change the screensaver instead; Backdrops is a separate option for displaying artwork on your TV.
Change the Roku menu wallpaper
Roku’s menu background is called a wallpaper and is part of the interface’s theme settings. On your remote, press Home, then open Settings > Themes. Depending on the device and software, the menu may instead be labeled Theme; follow the closest matching option.

Choose a wallpaper by itself
- Open Home > Settings > Themes (or Theme).
- Select Wallpapers.
- Browse the available choices, preview one if offered, and select it to apply.
Roku’s support instructions describe choosing a wallpaper separately from applying a full theme pack. Roku Support’s theme-pack instructions explain the available theme controls.

- From Home, open Settings > Themes > My themes.
- Browse the installed packs and preview one.
- Press OK to apply the pack.
A theme pack can change the wallpaper, screensaver, and navigation sounds together. Additional packs can be downloaded from device settings; Roku describes them as free. If your account has a PIN, Roku may ask you to enter it when adding a pack. You can remove installed packs you no longer use to free device storage.

Stop seasonal or sponsored wallpapers
Roku documents seasonal and sponsored wallpapers as enabled by default in the interface described in its support instructions. Turn either off using its separate control:
- Seasonal wallpapers: Home > Settings > Theme > Seasonal wallpapers > Off.
- Sponsored wallpapers: Home > Settings > Theme > Sponsored wallpapers > Off.
Seasonal wallpapers are temporary; when one expires, the device returns to the previous wallpaper. Labels or availability may differ on your device.
Change the image shown when Roku is idle
If you want to change what appears after the screen has been idle, you want the screensaver, not the menu wallpaper. Roku’s documented route is Home > Settings > Theme > Screensavers. Browse installed choices or find another one, preview it, and select Set as screensaver when that option appears.

Roku says screensavers may be free or paid. The screensaver menu also lets you set the wait time or disable the screensaver. Some Roku devices or software use a different path: Roku’s UK support page lists Settings > Screensaver. Roku Support’s screensaver instructions provide the relevant guidance; use the closest matching menu labels on your device.
Show artwork with Backdrops
Backdrops is a separate, free app for displaying art collections or images on the TV. It does not replace the wallpaper behind the Roku Home Screen menus.

Wallpaper does not change the Home Screen layout
Changing a wallpaper affects the menu’s appearance, not the arrangement of its tiles. Roku says the updated Home Screen is the standard layout and cannot be switched back to the older layout. Separate controls under Settings > Home Screen can adjust options such as tile size, recommendation rows, and Quick Access visibility. Roku explains the layout changes in its Home Screen support article.
