How to change Samsung Wallet settings for quick access, notifications, and security

Use Samsung Wallet’s Menu or All tab and Settings gear to control swipe-up locations, choose a default card, manage notification categories, hide lock-screen details, and respond to suspicious activity.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can control when Samsung Wallet opens, which card appears first, what alerts it sends, and how much notification detail appears on your lock screen from inside the Wallet app. In most current versions, start with Samsung Wallet > Menu (or All) > Settings. Samsung notes that names and screen layouts vary by Galaxy model, Android or One UI version, carrier, and region, so use those tabs and the Settings gear as landmarks if your labels differ. See Samsung’s current instructions for Wallet and Quick access, notifications, and security and account questions.

The settings solve different problems, so it helps to decide what you want to change before opening the menus. If Wallet opens when you do not want it to, adjust the swipe-up locations. If the wrong payment card is selected, change the default-card preference or the card order. If an alert is too noisy or reveals details on a locked phone, change the notification category, alert style, or lock-screen content setting. These controls are separate: turning off one gesture does not remove a card, and hiding notification details does not turn off the alert itself.

Change where the Wallet swipe-up gesture works

The swipe-up handle is Samsung Wallet’s Quick access shortcut. You can leave it enabled only where it is useful, or disable every location if Wallet is opening accidentally. The key choice is convenience versus the chance of triggering the shortcut while doing something else: leaving a location on gives you a faster entry point there, while switching it off removes that particular route into Wallet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Samsung Wallet.
  2. Tap Menu, then the Settings gear. On some versions, open All first.
  3. Choose Quick access. Some releases call this Quick access and default card.
  4. Tap Swipe up gesture.
  5. Turn each location on or off: Lock screen, Home screen, and Screen off.
  6. Adjust the handle-transparency slider if the shortcut is difficult to see or too prominent.

For example, if Wallet appears while you are navigating the Home screen, switch off Home screen. If it launches when the display is waking or you are swiping near the bottom edge with the screen off, switch off Screen off. Samsung UK documents the same disable-shortcut route as Wallet > Menu > Settings > Quick access; its labels may differ slightly from the US release (Samsung UK instructions).

Location Convenience Accidental-launch risk Practical choice
Lock screen Open Wallet without unlocking first Can be triggered during lock-screen swipes Keep on if you regularly need a pass or payment card before unlocking; otherwise turn off
Home screen Fastest access while using the phone Bottom-edge gestures can be mistaken for the shortcut Turn off if Wallet appears during ordinary navigation
Screen off Quick access while the display is dark May react to an unintended swipe or touch Disable first when accidental launches happen in a pocket or while picking up the phone

You do not have to choose between enabling every location and disabling Quick access entirely. For instance, you can keep the gesture on at the lock screen if that is where you use Wallet, but turn it off on the Home screen if the shortcut interferes with navigation. Try changing only the location associated with the unwanted launch; this preserves the other entry points you find useful. If you are not sure which location is responsible, switch off the likely one and test the phone in that situation before changing the others.

Disabling a location changes only that entry point; it does not remove your cards or disable Wallet payments. You can return to the same screen and re-enable a location later. The handle-transparency slider changes how prominent the gesture handle looks; it is not the switch that determines whether the swipe-up shortcut works. Turn off the relevant location when you want to prevent that launch behavior, rather than relying on transparency alone.

Choose a default card and manage the Quick access card strip

Quick access and card selection are separate settings. The gesture can be enabled without choosing a permanent default, and changing the default does not change where the gesture works. Think of the gesture settings as deciding when and where Wallet opens, and card settings as deciding what you see once you are using Quick access.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Set a specific payment card as the first card

  1. Open Wallet and go to Menu > Settings > Quick access (or Quick access and default card).
  2. Enable Set default payment card.
  3. Select the payment card you want to use first.

Samsung’s US FAQ says Wallet otherwise shows the last-used card by default. A fixed default is useful when one card is your routine choice; last-used behavior is better if you switch cards frequently and want Wallet to remember the most recent one (Samsung Wallet FAQ). This is a preference about which payment card Wallet selects first; it is not a setting for the swipe-up gesture and does not itself add or remove a card.

Choose a stable default if you usually pay with the same card and want to avoid changing your selection each time. Leave the default option off if your choice changes from one purchase to the next and you prefer Wallet to surface the card you used most recently. Neither approach is inherently better for everyone; the useful choice depends on whether predictability or automatic recall is more convenient for you.

Edit which cards appear and their order

Some regional versions let you choose which cards are shown in the Quick access tab and rearrange their order. Samsung’s Philippines instructions describe support for up to 40 cards in that regional implementation, but that limit should not be treated as universal. Look for an Edit, reorder, or card-management control in Quick access, then follow the on-screen drag or selection controls (Samsung Philippines card-management guide, last updated January 10, 2025).

Card-strip order and the payment-card default are related to how quickly you reach a card, but they are not interchangeable controls. Reordering a displayed card changes its position in the strip; selecting a default payment card tells Wallet which payment card to select first. A card can be visible in Quick access without being your default payment card. The available edit controls and the number of cards supported depend on the regional version, so follow the options shown on your device rather than assuming a limit or label from another country.

Change Samsung Wallet notification behavior

Wallet has controls for all alerts, individual categories, sound or vibration, badges, pop-ups, and lock-screen privacy. In the current US route:

  1. Open Samsung Wallet.
  2. Tap All.
  3. Tap More options (the three vertical dots).
  4. Choose Settings > Notifications.

Samsung’s notification guide documents these controls and notes that available categories can vary by device and installed Wallet features (Samsung notification settings). If your version presents Menu rather than All, start there and look for the Settings gear. The names are landmarks, not a guarantee that every Galaxy phone uses precisely the same sequence.

Turn Wallet notifications on or off

Use the main notification switch under General to stop or restore Wallet alerts. Turning it off suppresses Wallet notifications broadly; it does not remove cards, passes, or payment capability. This is the broadest option when you do not want Wallet alerts at all. If you only dislike one kind of alert, such as a particular category, leave the general switch on and look for that category’s own control instead.

Choose sound, vibration, badges, and pop-ups

Under General, choose whether alerts make a sound or vibrate, or arrive silently. You can also control notification badges and pop-up presentation. A silent alert can remain available in the notification shade without interrupting you with sound or vibration. This is a middle ground between keeping alerts fully attention-grabbing and disabling them: you can still check for them when convenient.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Badges and pop-ups change how alerts are presented, not which cards Wallet contains. If you want fewer visual interruptions, adjust pop-ups or badges while leaving the main notification switch on. If you want no Wallet alert on the locked screen but still want other alerts, use the lock-screen notification controls rather than turning off every Wallet notification. The exact settings and whether they are grouped together can differ by Wallet and Android version.

Disable only particular categories

Wallet can expose separate switches for categories such as Payments, Coupons, Cash Back, and Samsung Money by SoFi; digital-key alerts and other categories may appear on phones using those features. Turn off only the category that is unwanted rather than disabling every Wallet alert. Category names and availability are not identical on every Galaxy phone.

Category controls are useful when the goal is selective quiet rather than a complete shutdown. For example, you may want to keep payment-related alerts while turning off a category you do not use. Review the actual categories displayed on your phone, since your installed features and region determine which ones are relevant. A category missing from your screen is not necessarily an error; it may simply not be available in that Wallet configuration.

Stop boarding-pass alerts for future trips

Samsung’s FAQ says boarding-pass notifications can be disabled from Wallet > All > Settings > Notifications. The change applies to boarding-pass notifications going forward, not merely to one current trip (Samsung FAQ guidance). If the intention is to stop future boarding-pass notifications, use this category or feature control rather than assuming that hiding lock-screen content will disable them. Hiding content changes what is visible; it does not turn off the underlying alert.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Hide sensitive Wallet details on the lock screen

Lock-screen privacy is different from disabling notifications. You can keep an alert while concealing its contents, which is useful when you want to know that Wallet has an update without showing transaction or pass details to anyone looking at the locked phone. The tradeoff is at-a-glance information: showing content is more convenient when you can see the screen privately, while hiding content provides more privacy in public or around other people.

  1. Follow Wallet > All > More options > Settings > Notifications.
  2. Open the lock-screen notification controls.
  3. Leave lock-screen notifications enabled if you want an alert indicator.
  4. Choose the option to hide content (wording varies by Wallet and Android version) when you do not want details displayed.
Setting What you see Best for
Lock-screen notifications off No Wallet alert on the lock screen People who want no visible Wallet presence before unlocking
Notifications on, content hidden An alert is visible, but its details are concealed Balancing awareness with privacy in public
Notifications on, content shown Alert details are readable on the lock screen At-a-glance information when the phone is kept private

Use the first option if you do not want Wallet represented on the lock screen at all. Use hidden content if seeing that an alert arrived is helpful but the details should stay private. Showing content trades privacy for convenience, since you can read the alert without first opening the phone. These settings affect the lock-screen presentation; they are not a way to resolve a payment issue or remove the information from Wallet itself.

If an expected category is missing from Wallet’s own screen, check the phone’s system notification settings for Samsung Wallet as well. Android can add another layer of per-category, lock-screen, or pop-up controls, and the exact menu is model- and software-dependent; do not assume every Galaxy phone exposes identical system labels. Use the phone’s Settings app to look for Samsung Wallet notification controls, but rely on the labels actually present on your device.

Security actions when something looks wrong

Quick access and notification preferences improve control and privacy, but they do not reverse a payment, replace a compromised card, or secure an account by themselves. Treat an unexpected payment and an unfamiliar account login as different problems: payment-card activity is a matter for the issuer, while suspected Samsung Account access calls for reviewing account devices and contacting Samsung Support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Suspicious payment-card activity

  1. Contact the card issuer or bank immediately using the bank’s official contact channel.
  2. In Wallet, open the affected card’s details page and use its Customer Service route to find the bank’s contact information when available.
  3. Follow the issuer’s instructions for freezing, replacing, or disputing the card.

Samsung directs users to the issuer for suspicious card activity. Changing a Wallet alert or Quick access switch is not a substitute for that response. Even if the activity appears in a Wallet notification, use the card details page or the bank’s official contact channel to reach the issuer; notification preferences only change alerts and do not investigate or reverse a transaction.

Possible Samsung Account compromise

Samsung says a Samsung Account is required for Wallet and that two-factor authentication is mandatory for login. A login on a new device triggers an email, and account settings let you review logged-in devices. If a device or sign-in is unfamiliar, review the account’s device list, secure the account through Samsung’s recommended process, and contact Samsung Support for suspected unauthorized access.

These checks address account access rather than a disputed card charge. An email about a new-device login is a signal to review the account; it is not a reason to assume a payment is fraudulent or that changing the Wallet gesture will secure the account. Use Samsung’s current account and support instructions for the steps available in your region.

Remote protection for payment cards

Samsung also identifies its device-finding service as a way to remotely lock or erase Wallet payment cards. Service names, menus, and availability vary by region, so use the current Samsung instructions for your country before relying on this control. Remote locking or erasing Wallet cards protects the Wallet-stored credentials; it does not replace contacting the bank about a suspicious transaction.

How Samsung describes Wallet’s payment protection

Samsung describes tokenized payment handling and additional Wallet security features in its FAQ. Those are vendor-described safeguards, not a promise that a phone, account, or payment card is impossible to compromise. Keep your device software and account protections current, use two-factor authentication, and treat unexpected payment activity as a bank-support issue first (Samsung’s security FAQ).

Security settings are not substitutes for each other. Hiding an alert can reduce what someone sees on a locked screen, but it does not block account access. Turning off a swipe-up location can prevent that shortcut from appearing, but it does not cancel a card or dispute a transaction. Likewise, remotely locking or erasing Wallet payment cards is a different action from contacting the issuer. Choose the response that matches what looks wrong, and use Samsung or the bank for the relevant account or payment issue.

Troubleshoot when a setting is missing

  • Look in both tabs: Samsung moves entry points between Menu and All across versions. Open the tab that contains the Settings gear.
  • Check the exact feature context: Quick access controls are under Quick access; card ordering and notification categories may be separate screens.
  • Expect regional differences: A category, card limit, or label documented for one country may not appear on your phone.
  • Check system notifications: If Wallet does not expose a category switch, open the phone’s Settings app and inspect Samsung Wallet’s notification permissions and categories.
  • Update carefully: After a One UI or Wallet update, recheck the three gesture locations and lock-screen content setting because labels can move.

If a route does not match, do not assume that you need to disable Wallet or remove your cards. First return to the Wallet home screen and locate Menu or All, then look for the Settings gear. For a missing gesture switch, search the Quick access area; for notification behavior, look for Notifications. If a specific category or card-order option is not there, it may not be offered in your region or version.

The reliable landmarks are the Wallet app, its Menu or All tab, and the Settings gear. Samsung’s support pages provide the current regional procedure when your screen differs: US Wallet guide, US notification guide, and UK Quick access guide. Samsung’s UK guide was updated January 22, 2025; the Philippines card-management guide was last updated January 10, 2025. Both are regional references, so treat their wording and feature details accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I turn off Samsung Wallet swipe up?

Open Samsung Wallet, go to Menu (or All) > Settings > Quick access, then open Swipe up gesture. Turn off the location you want to disable—Lock screen, Home screen, or Screen off. The labels can vary by Galaxy model, software version, carrier, and region.

How do I stop Samsung Wallet from opening accidentally?

Identify where the unwanted launch happens and switch off that location under Quick access > Swipe up gesture. For example, turn off Home screen if Wallet opens during navigation, or Screen off if the shortcut triggers while the display is dark. Disabling a gesture location does not remove your cards or disable Wallet payments.

How do I change my default card in Samsung Wallet?

In Wallet, open Menu (or All) > Settings > Quick access, or Quick access and default card, and enable Set default payment card. Select the card you want Wallet to show first. Samsung says the last-used card appears by default when a user has not chosen a default.

How do I change Samsung Wallet notifications?

In the current US route, open Wallet > All > More options (three vertical dots) > Settings > Notifications. From there, review the general notification switch, sound or vibration, silent alerts, badges, pop-ups, and available category switches. On some versions, start from Menu instead of All.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How do I hide Wallet notifications on my lock screen?

Open Wallet’s Notifications settings and look for the lock-screen notification controls. You can turn off lock-screen notifications entirely or leave alerts on and choose to hide their content. Hiding content preserves the alert indicator while concealing details; the exact wording varies by Wallet and Android version.

Can I turn off boarding-pass notifications for just one trip?

Samsung’s FAQ says disabling Boarding Pass notifications in Wallet’s Notifications settings applies to boarding-pass notifications going forward, rather than only to one current trip. The exact screen labels can vary by version.

What should I do if I see suspicious activity on a card in Samsung Wallet?

Contact the card issuer or bank immediately. Samsung says the card’s details page may provide a Customer Service route to the bank’s contact information. A Wallet notification or Quick access setting does not reverse a payment or replace the issuer’s instructions.

What if Quick access or a notification category is missing?

Look under both Menu and All for the Settings gear, then check the relevant Quick access or Notifications area. Settings and categories vary by model, software, carrier, region, and installed Wallet features. If a notification category is not available in Wallet, check the phone’s system notification settings for Samsung Wallet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

For unwanted launches, turn off the specific Quick access swipe-up location that causes them. For card selection, choose a default payment card or manage the Quick access strip separately. For noisy alerts, adjust categories and alert style; for lock-screen privacy, hide content rather than disabling all notifications if you still want an alert indicator. If payment activity looks suspicious, contact the bank immediately; if account access looks unfamiliar, review logged-in devices and contact Samsung Support. Menu names and features vary, so use the Wallet tabs and Settings gear as landmarks.
