Find the setting that matches what you want to change
Google Wallet does not have one master privacy switch. Its controls cover different kinds of Wallet data and activity, while notification settings determine which alerts you receive. Use the following guide to identify the control before changing it.

Change Wallet data and privacy options
Open the data controls
- Open the Google Wallet app on your Android device.
- Tap your profile picture or account icon.
- Choose Your data in Wallet.
- Tap Manage data from Wallet and payments services.
- Review the available options and change the specific control that matches your preference.
The account icon is the starting point for both privacy and notification changes, but the next menu is different. Choose Your data in Wallet when your concern is information saved or used by Wallet. Choose Wallet settings when your concern is an alert appearing on your phone.
What the data and privacy page can control
Options in this area can cover Wallet personalization, use of Wallet and payments-services information to personalize other Google experiences, saving Wallet history, and ad personalization. These choices serve different purposes; changing one should not be treated as changing all the others.
Depending on the option, the information involved can include passes, purchase activity, saved addresses and accounts linked to Wallet. Read the description next to each switch before changing it. A setting about personalization is not necessarily a setting about retention, and a setting about use across Google is not the same as an advertising preference.

- Save Wallet history: controls saving activity from Wallet and payments services.
- Personalize Google ads: controls advertising personalization and may send you to My Ad Center, where Google provides the related ad controls.
Because these are distinct choices, turning one off does not automatically turn off the others. If you want the most restrictive result for a particular purpose, review each relevant option rather than assuming a single change covers every use of Wallet information.
Understand Wallet history before turning it off
Wallet history concerns saving activity from Wallet and payments services. Google gives transit-pass use as an example: tapping an Android device to a reader can create activity that may be recorded. This history control is not a command to remove a pass, cancel a payment card or disable Google Wallet. Those are separate actions.
In practical terms, this switch addresses whether qualifying activity is saved as Wallet and payments-services history. It does not erase the pass from your phone, reverse a completed transaction or stop you from using tap-to-pay. If you need to remove a card or pass, use the separate management controls for that item.
Keep pass controls separate from payment methods
Passes include items such as gift cards, travel cards, boarding passes, event tickets, loyalty cards, digital car keys, campus IDs and digital receipts. Debit and credit payment methods are not passes. Google documents separate controls for personalization within Wallet and use of pass information across Google; sharing can also be controlled for an individual pass in the app. Private passes, such as insurance cards and IDs, are handled differently from ordinary passes.

A pass-data preference should not be interpreted as a payment-card preference, and a payment-card change should not be expected to alter how a boarding pass or loyalty card is handled.
If your goal is to limit one pass rather than all pass-related use, open that pass in Wallet and review its sharing options. Individual-pass sharing is narrower than a global pass-data preference. Check the pass itself when you want to change what happens to one ticket, card, ID or receipt.

Turn off purchase notifications or manage other Wallet alerts
Change purchase notifications
- Open the Wallet app.
- Tap your profile picture or account icon.
- Select Wallet settings.
- Turn purchase notifications on or off.
This is the named control for purchase alerts. Google says users may receive a notification after a Wallet transaction. If your only goal is to stop purchase alerts, begin with this switch instead of disabling every Wallet notification.
A purchase notification is an alert category, not the same thing as the transaction record or Wallet history. Turning off the alert does not cancel the transaction, remove the payment method or necessarily prevent activity from being handled by other Wallet services.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Choose other Wallet push-notification categories
- In Wallet, tap your profile picture or account icon.
- Open Wallet settings.
- Tap Manage Wallet notifications.
- Review the categories available for your app and account, then change the relevant notification preferences.
The category list is not necessarily identical for every user. The broader screen can include notifications about transactions, passes and more. If you are trying to stop a particular type of alert, check both the specific purchase-notification setting and the broader notification-management screen rather than assuming one toggle governs every Wallet alert.
For example, someone who wants purchase alerts but not pass reminders should review the pass-related category in Manage Wallet notifications instead of turning off all Wallet alerts. Conversely, someone who wants no purchase alerts should check the dedicated purchase notifications switch even if other Wallet categories remain enabled.
Know what location permission does
Google says location permission can enable location data for new tap-to-pay transaction details. This is an optional detail feature; location permission is not required for Wallet payments or for all transaction notifications. Change it only if you want to affect that location-related transaction detail, not as a general way to stop alerts.
Do not revoke location access expecting it to disable every transaction message. Notification preferences remain the appropriate place to manage alerts, while location permission affects whether location information can be included in certain new tap-to-pay details.
Use Wallet settings on the web
If you prefer a browser or a data control is not easy to find in the app, go to wallet.google.com and open Settings. The website’s settings area includes data and privacy options and email settings. Sign in to the Google account associated with the Wallet information you want to manage.
Google lists email categories for help and troubleshooting messages and for updates or promotions. These email preferences are distinct from push notifications sent by the Wallet app. Disabling promotional email, for example, should not be assumed to silence a transaction alert shown by Android, and turning off a push category should not be assumed to change account email.
The web and app do not necessarily expose every control in the same place. Treat the website as another route to the options it makes available, not as proof that every setting should appear identically on every device or account. If a control is present on the website but not in the app, use the web option shown for your account; if it is missing in both places, the feature may not yet be available to that account.

Practical choices for common goals
“I want fewer Wallet alerts, but I still want important pass updates.”
Open Wallet settings, review purchase notifications, then open Manage Wallet notifications. Leave the pass category you need enabled and disable only unwanted purchase or other categories. Since categories can vary, verify the result by reviewing every relevant entry rather than relying on one global assumption.

“I do not want Wallet activity used to personalize Google experiences.”
Open Your data in Wallet and then Manage data from Wallet and payments services. Look specifically for the option concerning use of Wallet and payments-services information across Google. This is different from Wallet personalization and from ad personalization, so review those separately if they also matter to you.
“I do not want Wallet history saved.”
Use the same data-and-privacy page and change the Wallet history option. Remember that this does not remove passes, cancel cards, disable Wallet or necessarily delete every other kind of account or transaction record.
“I only want to change one boarding pass or loyalty card.”
Open the individual pass and review its sharing controls. Global pass-data settings affect broader categories of pass use, while the pass-level option is intended for a specific item. Private passes, including IDs and insurance cards, may follow different handling.
If a setting or notification control is missing
Update the app for differences in app settings
Google’s Wallet help guidance says to update the app if its settings differ from the instructions. After updating, reopen Wallet and follow the relevant path from the profile picture or account icon. An update may change labels or expose controls that were not visible in an older version.
Allow for a gradual privacy-controls rollout
Google Wallet Help says: “Important: These settings are rolling out gradually to users. If you do not find these options yet, check back later.” The availability of a newer data control may therefore depend on whether it has reached your account. Try the Wallet website’s Settings area for the available web options, and check again later if the specific control is still absent.
A missing option does not necessarily mean you followed the wrong path. First confirm that you are signed in to the intended Google account, update Wallet, and check the website. If the option still does not appear, its gradual rollout or account availability may be the reason.
If alerts continue after changing Wallet preferences
First confirm that you changed the right in-app control: purchase notifications and the broader Manage Wallet notifications screen are separate. Also check whether the message is an email rather than a push notification; email settings are managed on the Wallet website.
If the alert still appears, your Android device may also have app-level notification settings that affect Wallet. Android menu names and paths vary by manufacturer and OS version, so use your phone maker’s current instructions rather than relying on a universal path. Device-level notification controls are general Android guidance, not a single Google Wallet menu path.

What changing these settings does not do
- Turning off Wallet history does not remove a pass or cancel a payment card.
- Changing data-personalization preferences is not the same as disabling transaction or pass alerts.
- Changing a pass preference does not automatically change how payment methods are handled.
- Turning off purchase notifications does not necessarily turn off every Wallet push notification category.
- Disabling Wallet push notifications does not necessarily change Wallet email preferences.
- Location permission is not a requirement for payments or all Wallet transaction notifications.
- Turning off ad personalization does not automatically turn off Wallet history or personalization within Wallet.
