You can also block individual titles and protect the profile with a four-digit Profile Lock PIN. Netflix does not allow maturity-rating edits from a TV or streaming-device interface.
What Netflix maturity ratings control
A maturity rating sets the highest content level that a profile can see. Netflix describes it this way: “When you set a maturity rating for a profile, that profile will only see shows, movies, and games with a rating at or below that level.” The setting applies to the profile’s catalog view and playback choices, rather than changing the account’s settings for every profile.

Think of the rating as a ceiling, not a recommendation. A profile set to a lower level can still see content beneath that ceiling, while titles above it are removed from that profile’s available browsing and playback. Netflix also applies the control to games associated with the profile, not just films and series.
There are three separate controls to understand:
- Maturity Rating: a broad limit for the profile’s allowed content level.
- Title Restrictions: a precise block for particular shows or movies, regardless of the broader rating.
- Profile Lock: a four-digit PIN that stops someone from opening the profile or playing its downloads.
Use the rating when you want a simple, wide restriction. Use a title block when one specific program is unsuitable even though other titles at the same rating are acceptable. Add a Profile Lock when the main risk is someone switching into the restricted profile or using its downloads.

Change a profile’s maturity rating in a web browser
Netflix’s browser account page is the dependable cross-device route. It is also the required route for some Kids-profile changes.
- Sign in to Netflix in a web browser using the account that owns the profiles.
- Open the Account page from the account menu.
- In the profile section, select Profiles, then choose Adjust parental controls.
- Select the profile whose access you want to change. Check the profile name carefully before editing; changing the wrong profile will not affect the one your child uses.
- Complete the identity check. Netflix may request a code sent by email or text message, or the Netflix account password.
- Under Maturity Rating, choose the desired level for that profile.
- Select Save to apply the change.
The selected level governs what that profile can see. If the change does not appear immediately on a television, phone, tablet, or streaming player, switch to another Netflix profile and back again. If that does not refresh the device, sign out of Netflix and sign in again.
Change restrictions from the Android or iPhone app
The Netflix mobile app exposes the same basic control through a different path. The labels can vary slightly by app version, but the route described by Netflix is:
- Open the Netflix app and tap My Netflix.
- Tap the current profile name.
- Choose Manage Profiles.
- Select the profile you want to edit.
- Open Viewing Restrictions, then choose Maturity Rating.
- Verify your identity when prompted.
- Select the new rating level and save it.
Netflix specifically notes that changing the rating for a Kids profile requires a web browser. If the mobile app does not expose the option for a Kids profile, do not treat that as a missing permission; use the browser Account page instead.

Block a specific show or movie
A maturity rating cannot account for every family preference. For example, you may accept most titles at a given level but want to exclude one series, film, or franchise. Netflix provides a title-by-title restriction for that case.
Block titles in a browser
- Open Netflix’s Account page.
- Go to Profiles > Adjust parental controls.
- Select the profile you want to manage and complete the identity verification.
- Find Title Restrictions.
- Search for the show or movie by name.
- Select the matching title and save the restriction.
Block titles in the mobile app
- Open My Netflix, tap the profile name, and choose Manage Profiles.
- Select the profile, then open Viewing Restrictions.
- Choose Block Titles.
- Search for the title, select it, and save.
A blocked title is removed from that profile. The restriction is profile-specific, so another profile on the same account is not automatically changed.
Important limit on the blocked-title list
Netflix displays only the first 100 blocked titles in the list. You can block additional titles beyond that visible list. If you later need to remove one that is not displayed, search for that title again rather than relying on the list to locate it.

Stop someone from switching to another profile
Content restrictions work only if the viewer stays in the restricted profile. Anyone who can freely select an unrestricted profile can bypass that profile’s maturity ceiling. A Profile Lock PIN protects the profile itself.

- [Dont Hesite to Order] 24 hours customer services and professional technology team are standing by
- Open Netflix in a browser and go to Account.
- Open Profiles, then select the profile you want to protect.
- Choose Profile Lock.
- Verify your identity when Netflix asks for a code or account password.
- Create a four-digit PIN and save it.
Netflix states that the PIN is required to open the protected profile or play downloads from it. Keep the PIN separate from the device’s unlock code and do not store it where the restricted viewer can see it. A profile lock is an access barrier; it does not replace the maturity rating or title blocks inside the profile.
Which control should you use?
| Control | Scope | Best use | Bypass protection | Where to change it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maturity Rating | Sets the profile’s maximum allowed content level | Apply a broad, simple rule for a child or younger viewer | Does not stop the viewer from selecting another unprotected profile | Web browser; mobile app for most profiles |
| Title Restrictions | Blocks named shows or movies on one profile | Exclude a particular title while leaving other content at the chosen level available | Works only on the profile where the title is blocked | Browser under Title Restrictions; mobile app under Block Titles |
| Profile Lock PIN | Controls entry to the profile and access to its downloads | Prevent profile switching or unauthorized use of a restricted profile | Requires a four-digit PIN to open the profile | Account > Profiles > selected profile > Profile Lock |
For a younger child, the strongest practical setup is usually a lower maturity level plus any individual title blocks you need, followed by a Profile Lock PIN. The three controls address different failure points, so adding one does not make the others unnecessary.
Why you cannot change the rating on a TV
Netflix says maturity-rating changes cannot be made on a TV or streaming device. Television apps are designed mainly for selecting and playing content, while account-level parental controls are handled through the web Account page. If you open a profile menu on a smart TV, game console, set-top box, or streaming stick and cannot find the rating control, that is expected behavior rather than an indication that your account is malfunctioning.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse a phone, tablet, or computer browser instead. After saving, return to the TV app and refresh the session by switching profiles. If the old catalog remains, sign out and sign back in. The browser change is the authoritative edit; the device may simply need to reload the profile data.

Troubleshoot a change that is missing or ineffective
The setting is not visible
- If you are on a TV or streaming device, move to the Netflix Account page in a browser.
- If you are editing a Kids profile in the mobile app, use a web browser; Netflix requires that route for the rating change.
- Confirm that you are signed in to the account that owns the profile. A viewer profile cannot administer account controls without the account-level verification.
The new rating has not appeared on a device
- Save the change in the browser and wait for the confirmation.
- On the affected device, switch to another profile and then return to the edited profile.
- If the old access remains, sign out of Netflix and sign back in.
- Check that you are testing the same profile you edited. Restrictions are not automatically copied to other profiles.
A blocked title still appears in search
Open the profile’s Title Restrictions or Block Titles area and confirm that the exact title was selected. Search results can include similarly named programs, so select the intended series or film rather than assuming the first result is correct. Then refresh the device session using the profile switch or sign-out steps above.
The viewer is still watching unrestricted content
Check which profile is active. A maturity rating and title block apply only to the profile where you set them. If the viewer can choose another profile, add a Profile Lock PIN to the restricted profile and keep the PIN confidential.
You cannot remove an old block
Netflix shows only the first 100 blocked titles in the visible list. Search for the title directly in the restriction control to locate and remove a block that is outside that displayed portion.
How to choose an appropriate rating
Netflix presents rating levels for the profile, but the labels and available levels can vary by country and by the local classification system. Select the highest level you are comfortable allowing on that profile, then use title blocks for exceptions. Do not assume that two countries’ labels represent identical content standards; the account’s region determines the ratings Netflix presents.
Best Value
When setting up a profile for a child, review the result on the devices they actually use. A browser change affects the profile account-wide, but a device may retain an older session until it is refreshed. Test browsing and playback after the update, and test profile selection if you have created a PIN.
Practical setup examples
One child uses a shared family account
Create or use a dedicated child profile, set its maturity ceiling in a browser, and add title blocks for programs you have specifically ruled out. Apply a Profile Lock PIN to that profile if the child can reach the profile-selection screen. Leave the PIN with the account owner rather than writing it on the television or remote.
Two children need different limits
Configure each profile separately. A younger child’s profile can have a lower ceiling and more title blocks, while an older child’s profile can use a higher level. Do not edit one profile expecting the change to carry over to the other; Netflix stores these controls per profile.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11You want to keep one sensitive title away from an otherwise suitable profile
Leave the broad maturity level at the family’s agreed ceiling and add a title-specific block. This avoids hiding every title at that level when the concern is limited to one program.
You share a device with adults
Use a Profile Lock PIN on the child profile and keep adult viewing in a separate profile. The PIN prevents entry to the protected profile, while the maturity and title settings determine what is available after entry.
What these controls do not do
- They do not apply one profile’s restrictions to every profile on the account.
- They do not change the maturity settings of a different account used on the same device.
- They do not replace supervision of the account password, email, or text-message verification method.
- They do not guarantee that a device will display the change instantly; profile switching or a fresh sign-in may be required.
Keep the Netflix account password and verification channels under the account owner’s control. Anyone who can complete the account-level identity check may be able to change parental settings, even if a profile itself has a PIN.
Quick checklist
- Use a web browser for the most reliable account-level edit.
- Go to Account > Profiles > Adjust parental controls.
- Select the correct profile before changing anything.
- Complete the email, text, or password verification.
- Set and save the Maturity Rating.
- Add individual blocks under Title Restrictions or Block Titles when needed.
- Create a four-digit Profile Lock PIN to prevent profile switching.
- Refresh affected devices by switching profiles or signing out and back in.
- For Kids profiles, use a browser for rating edits and title blocking if the app does not provide the control.
Bottom line
Change the rating in a browser, not on a TV: Account > Profiles > Adjust parental controls, choose the profile, verify your identity, select the maturity level, and save. Add title blocks for specific exceptions and a Profile Lock PIN when you need to stop someone from entering the profile or switching around its restrictions.
