To remove the launcher’s download speed cap, open Settings → Download Settings, clear Limit Download Speeds, then restart the launcher. These settings control game downloads and installs; relocating the Epic Games Launcher application itself is a separate process.
Change the default folder for games
- Open the Epic Games Launcher and select Download Manager in the bottom-left corner.
- Select Download Settings.
- Under General, select Change beside Default Install Directory.
- Choose the folder to use for future game installations.
This changes the default destination for games installed through the launcher. Epic also says you can choose an install location while installing an individual game. The setting does not move games already installed or change the launcher’s own program folder. Epic Games Store Support: change the default installation path.

If you want to install games on another drive, you can choose a folder there, provided it is available to your computer and the game meets its own requirements. A separate drive is optional.

- Open the launcher and select Settings.
- Scroll to Download Settings.
- Clear Limit Download Speeds.
- Restart the launcher and try the download again.
Epic lists this as a possible troubleshooting step for slow downloads, not a guarantee that every slow download will be fixed. Epic Games Store Support: turn off download speed limit.

What else can you control in Download Settings?
The Download Manager includes controls for managing how downloads and updates behave:
- Prioritize game updates.
- Limit speeds for new installations and updates.
- Allow installations while you play.
- Schedule automatic updates.
- Show a notification when an installation finishes.
You can also reorder downloads and view recent download history in Download Manager. Available controls and labels may change as the launcher is updated. Epic Games Store Support: use the Download Manager.

Changing the launcher’s location is different
The default install directory setting applies to games, not the Epic Games Launcher application. Epic’s Windows instructions say to uninstall and reinstall the launcher, choosing its new location during installation. Epic provides different guidance for Mac, so follow the instructions for your operating system rather than expecting Download Settings to relocate the program. Why does download speed sometimes drop to zero?
A zero rate in the download graph does not necessarily mean a speed limit is enabled. Epic explains that the launcher can pause network downloading while it writes downloaded files to disk. Check the graph’s read/write information for disk activity before changing the speed setting. Epic Games Store Support: download speed drops to zero.
