To change the day/night cycle, stop your Conan Exiles server, open ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ServerSettings.ini, find the [ServerSettings] section, edit the time-of-day multipliers, save the file, and restart the server. Use DayCycleSpeedScale for the whole cycle, or adjust DayTimeSpeedScale, NightTimeSpeedScale, and DawnDuskSpeedScale for individual segments. Which settings control the Conan Exiles day length?
Conan Exiles does not use a single “day length” switch. The server uses one master multiplier plus separate multipliers for daytime, nighttime, and the dawn/dusk transition. These values are normally stored in the server’s ServerSettings.ini file under [ServerSettings].

The master setting and segment settings interact. Community references describe DayCycleSpeedScale as being applied in addition to the segment multipliers, so changing both at once can make the resulting speed difficult to predict. For a controlled adjustment, begin with either the master multiplier or one segment multiplier, not several values together.

The exact root folder depends on how the server was installed and which build it is running. Search the server’s installation directory for ServerSettings.ini if that path is not present. Do not edit a similarly named local-game file by mistake; the file must belong to the running dedicated server.
Hosted server control panel
Most hosting panels expose configuration files through a file manager or a configuration-files page. The safe sequence is the same:
- Stop the Conan Exiles server from the panel and wait until its status is fully stopped.
- Open the configuration-files or file-manager area.
- Navigate to the server’s
ServerSettings.inifile, usually inside theConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServerpath. - Make a backup or copy of the original file before changing anything.
- Edit only the relevant values in the
[ServerSettings]section. - Save the file, start the server, and allow it to finish loading before joining.
Panels can use different folder layouts and editors. If the file is regenerated after a restart, verify that you edited the active instance and that the server was stopped while you saved the change.
How to change the cycle safely
1. Record the current values
Open the file and write down the existing values for all four time settings. Community references often show every multiplier as 1.0, but an older community default file shows DayCycleSpeedScale=10.000000, and another forum discussion describes a 0.0–2.0 range with a default of 1. Because these sources conflict and no official Funcom default was confirmed, the value already in your file is the only reliable starting point for your server.
2. Stop the server before editing
Do not edit a live file and assume the running process will reload it. Stop the server first. A live process can overwrite your changes on shutdown, or the game may continue using values loaded when it started.

3. Find the section and keys
In ServerSettings.ini, locate the [ServerSettings] header. The entries may already exist, may use a different number of decimal places, or may be absent. Preserve the existing spelling and place the entries under that header. A typical set of lines looks like this:

DawnDuskSpeedScale=1.000000The sample values are an illustration of syntax, not a claim about the default on your server. If a key is already present, edit that line rather than adding a second copy elsewhere in the file.
4. Change one value
Use decimal numbers, keep the equals sign, and do not add quotation marks. Make one adjustment per test cycle. For example, to make darkness move twice as fast while leaving the other values at their recorded settings, set:
NightTimeSpeedScale=2.000000Higher values speed up the selected segment, which means fewer real-world minutes pass while that segment is active. To make nighttime last longer, use a value below the current setting, such as 0.500000, and test the result rather than assuming an exact real-time ratio.
5. Save, restart, and test
Save the file without changing its name or extension. Start the server and join after it has completed its startup. Observe the in-game clock through at least one affected transition. If the result is wrong, stop the server, restore the previous value, and test again.

Choosing between the master and segment multipliers
Use DayCycleSpeedScale for a uniformly faster or slower cycle
The master multiplier is the simplest choice when you want daytime, nighttime, and the transitions to move together. Lowering it slows the complete cycle; raising it accelerates the complete cycle. Because it affects every part of the day, it is usually the cleanest first test when the goal is “make the entire world day longer” or “make the whole cycle shorter.”
Use segment settings for asymmetric days and nights
Segment settings let you preserve one part of the cycle while changing another. A common community configuration keeps the master at 1.0 and sets NightTimeSpeedScale=2.0. That makes night pass faster without deliberately changing daytime or dawn/dusk. The setting is a popular tweak, not an official default.
For a server that should have longer daylight but normal darkness, lower DayTimeSpeedScale while leaving the other segment values unchanged. For longer nights, lower NightTimeSpeedScale. If the transition itself feels too long or too abrupt, adjust DawnDuskSpeedScale separately.
Why stacking changes causes confusion
Changing DayCycleSpeedScale and a segment multiplier together means the segment is influenced by both settings. Community guidance warns against stacking approaches because the effective speed becomes hard to predict. If you need a custom schedule, make a baseline change, measure it, then add one further change and measure again. Keeping a written record of each test makes rollback possible.
What do the in-game segments include?
A third-party settings printout places daytime roughly between 07:00 and 16:59 in-game time, and nighttime roughly between 19:00 and 04:59. These boundaries are approximate references rather than an official specification. Dawn and dusk occupy the transition periods between those broad ranges.

The transition setting matters because dawn and dusk may not behave like a simple slice of daytime. One user report noted that dawn and dusk seemed to count toward nighttime when measuring a customized cycle. If your measured night is longer or shorter than expected, include both transition periods in your observation instead of timing only the darkest hours.

There is no confirmed official duration that applies to every server. Community estimates conflict: one Steam guide estimates default daytime at about 15 real-time minutes and nighttime at about 10 minutes, while a hosting guide describes a default full cycle of about one real-time hour at a multiplier of 1.0. A forum user reported that DayCycleSpeedScale=0.5 with the three segment multipliers at 1.0 produced roughly a 60-minute day and a 10-minute night, while also noting that dawn and dusk appeared to count toward night.

Those reports are user observations, not specifications. Server build, existing configuration, transition handling, and the interaction of master and segment values can all change the result. Treat any published duration as a starting hypothesis and measure your own instance if timing matters for events, raids, purge planning, or role-play schedules.
How to measure your server’s actual cycle
Use a controlled baseline
- Choose a safe location where you can see the lighting change and read the in-game clock.
- Record the four multiplier values before making changes.
- Note the real-world time and in-game time at a clear boundary, such as the beginning of daylight.
- Record the next comparable boundary, such as the next beginning of daylight.
- Repeat the observation once more if possible. A single transition can be distorted by uncertain dawn or dusk boundaries.
Measure segments separately
If you changed only NightTimeSpeedScale, record when darkness begins, when dawn becomes visible, and when full daylight arrives. This separates the nighttime segment from the transition. Use the same character, server, and configuration for each comparison; changing another multiplier invalidates the baseline.
Keep results tied to the configuration
Write the measured real-time duration beside the exact values used and the server build or date. Since community references disagree, a measurement without its settings is not useful for diagnosing a later change.
Troubleshooting when the change does not work
The server uses the old timing
- Confirm the server was stopped before the file was saved.
- Check that the edited file belongs to the active server instance, not a local client or an unused installation.
- Verify the keys are under
[ServerSettings]and are spelled exactly as shown. - Make sure there is only one active line for each key; duplicate entries can make it unclear which value is read.
- Restart after saving and wait for a complete startup.
The file reverted
A control panel or server process may regenerate configuration files. Stop the server again, restore the desired values, save, and restart. If the panel has a separate “save configuration” action, use it before starting the server. Keep a backup so you can compare the regenerated file with your edit.

The timing changed far more than expected
- Check whether
DayCycleSpeedScalewas already set to a non-default value. - Check all three segment multipliers for inherited changes.
- Undo the latest edit and test one value at a time.
- Measure a complete boundary-to-boundary cycle instead of judging from a few minutes of lighting.
Only dawn or dusk seems wrong
Adjust DawnDuskSpeedScale independently. The transition periods are not necessarily included in the same way players define “day” and “night,” so compare the lighting transition and the in-game clock rather than relying on a single visual cue.
The server will not start after editing
- Restore the backup immediately.
- Check for accidental quotation marks, missing equals signs, or edits outside the intended section.
- Use the original decimal format and preserve the file name and extension.
- Start the server with the untouched file, then reapply one simple change and test.
Practical recommendations for administrators
- Announce the planned restart so players are not caught in a shutdown or unexpected lighting change.
- Back up
ServerSettings.inibefore every timing experiment. - Change one multiplier per restart and record the result.
- Do not assume values shown in an old default file match a newly created server.
- Use a segment multiplier when only day or night needs adjustment; use the master multiplier when the entire cycle should move together.
- Test on the actual server build and mod set used by your community.
- Tell players whether a change affects the complete cycle, only darkness, only daylight, or the transitions.
