In Google Translate, choose Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced proficiency, pick or create a scenario, and adjust difficulty after a listening round. Preply lets learners change their level and practice everyday or tutor-created scenarios. The British Council describes learner-facing feedback on English speaking, but does not document a manual correction setting.
Change your level and practice difficulty
Google Translate
- Open the latest Google Translate app and tap Practise.
- Choose the interface language and the language you want to practise.
- Select Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced, then describe your motivation or choose one of the listed options.
- To change the level later, open Settings, go to Languages > Proficiency, and select a different level.
Google’s separate Make it harder and Make it easier choices appear at the end of a listening round. They adjust the next listening round; skipping the choice leaves its difficulty unchanged. Google does not document this control as a way to change the difficulty of speaking conversations. See Google Translate Help for the current instructions.

Preply Scenario Practice
Preply says learners can manually change their level in the app from the Practice tab using the level icon. It also says Lesson Insights may update a learner’s level as their speaking improves through lessons. These are separate routes: use the level control to make a manual adjustment, while lesson-based updates are described as automatic. Details are on Preply’s Scenario Practice page.

Google Translate: select or create a scenario
During setup, describe why you want to practise or choose from the listed motivations. In practice, you can select a recommended scenario, explore more scenarios, or create one of your own. Use a concrete situation—such as travel, school, work, or talking with friends and family—so the dialogue reflects what you need to say.

Preply: everyday or tutor-created scenarios
Preply lists short AI-powered tasks based on situations such as asking for directions, ordering at a restaurant, and introducing yourself in a meeting. Tutors can also create custom scenarios. The service says tasks are tailored to the learner’s current level.
British Council: practise by setting
The British Council presents AI English-speaking practice for work, travel, and social situations. Its page describes practice contexts, but does not document the same learner-created scenario control described by Google or tutor-created scenarios described by Preply. See British Council AI speaking practice.

Understand what “feedback” means in each service

British Council: learner-facing speaking feedback
The British Council describes personalized feedback on grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and clarity, depending on level. When you end a conversation, the service tells you if you have spoken enough for it to provide feedback. The page does not establish that every feedback dimension is available every time or that a separate manual correction setting exists.

Check access and interpret AI feedback carefully
Google describes Translate practice as a limited beta and lists supported language pairs and countries on its help page; access may depend on your language and location. Check the live instructions and app before relying on a particular control. Google Translate Help warns: “Generative AI is experimental and can be inaccurate.” Treat generated practice or feedback as a learning aid, not a guarantee of correctness.
