You cannot catch or evolve a new Dragon Pokémon in Pokémon Winds or Pokémon Waves yet because no Dragon Pokémon has been officially revealed. As of October 19, 2026, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have announced the games, their setting, three first partners and special Pikachu variants, but no Dragon species, name, location or evolution instructions.
Both games are planned for simultaneous worldwide release in 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2. Any page claiming a confirmed Dragon spawn point, level, item, move or friendship requirement is speculation unless it is backed by a later official announcement.

What is officially known right now
Nintendo announced on March 2, 2026: “Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.” The announcement confirms the platform, year and worldwide launch plan, but it does not include a complete Pokédex or a list of every species available.

The three revealed first partners
| Pokémon | Type | What has been announced |
|---|---|---|
| Browt | Grass | Revealed as one of the first partner choices. |
| Pombon | Fire | Revealed as one of the first partner choices. |
| Gecqua | Water | Revealed as one of the first partner choices. |
Special Pikachu variants have also been shown in the announcement material. None of those reveals identifies a Dragon Pokémon, a Dragon-type partner or an evolution line.
Dragon Pokémon details that have not been disclosed
The official announcement provides no Dragon-specific data. These are the unanswered points readers will need before a catch-and-evolve guide can be written:
| Question | Current official status |
|---|---|
| What is the Pokémon’s name? | Not stated. |
| Is it a single-stage Pokémon or part of an evolution line? | Not stated. |
| Where does it appear? | No island, ocean area, weather condition or other habitat has been identified. |
| Can it be caught in the wild? | No encounter or capture method has been announced. |
| Is it exclusive to Winds, Waves or available in both? | Not stated. |
| At what level does it evolve? | No evolution level has been published. |
| Is an item required? | No evolution item has been identified. |
| Does it need a move, time, weather or friendship value? | No such requirement has been announced. |
| What are its type, abilities and statistics? | Not stated in the announcement material. |
Why online “locations” and evolution steps may be unreliable
Without a species name or Pokédex entry, there is no official way to distinguish a genuine Dragon Pokémon from a fan-created design, an interpretation of trailer footage or an unverified leak. A map label, screenshot or claimed level requirement cannot be confirmed from the announcement alone.

The setting also cannot be used to infer mechanics. Windswept islands and a large ocean suggest varied habitats, but they do not prove that a Dragon Pokémon will spawn on a mountain, appear only during storms, require a special fishing method or evolve after reaching a particular island. Those are possible designs, not established facts.
Likewise, the three first partners do not reveal how a later Dragon encounter will work. Browt, Pombon and Gecqua are the only starter choices named so far; the announcement does not say whether a Dragon Pokémon is a rare wild encounter, a gift, a trade evolution, a story reward or an available species at all.
How to check for real catch and evolution instructions
When new information arrives, use this checklist to separate an official mechanic from a rumor:

- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Look for a named species. A reliable guide should identify the Pokémon by its official name, not merely call it “the new Dragon.”
- Check for a Pokédex entry or gameplay explanation. An official entry, trailer caption or support article should establish where and how the Pokémon is obtained.
- Confirm the version and region. If the games have different encounter tables, an official source should say whether the method applies to Winds, Waves or both and which release region is covered.
- Require the complete evolution condition. A trustworthy instruction should specify the level, item, move, time, friendship value or other trigger, along with any prerequisite quest.
- Check the publication date. Information posted before Nintendo or The Pokémon Company names the Pokémon is not confirmation, even if it uses screenshots or confident wording.
- Prefer first-party announcements. Nintendo’s game announcements, The Pokémon Company’s news pages and an eventual official game manual or support page are stronger evidence than social posts or unattributed videos.
What prospective players can prepare for now
Plan around the confirmed hardware and timing
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are planned for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, with a simultaneous worldwide release. No launch date, preorder window, price or verified game listing has been announced in the available material, so there is no confirmed purchase schedule to follow yet.

Do not lock in a starter decision based on Dragon speculation
The confirmed first partners are Browt (Grass), Pombon (Fire) and Gecqua (Water). Nothing official connects any of them to a Dragon evolution, a Dragon encounter or a version-exclusive storyline. Choose among them only when Nintendo or The Pokémon Company publishes their actual moves, abilities and progression details.
Keep future save planning flexible
Because no capture method or evolution trigger exists publicly, it is too early to reserve a team slot, save a particular item or plan a specific level-up route for the unnamed Dragon. A future guide should be able to state the exact requirement; until then, treating a rumor as a checklist could waste play time or lead to an unnecessary reset.

No. The announced first partners are Browt, Pombon and Gecqua, and all three have been identified as Grass, Fire and Water types respectively. The announcement does not name a Dragon starter.
Bottom line
There is no confirmed catch or evolution method to follow yet. The only safe answer is to wait for a named Dragon Pokémon, an official Pokédex entry or a detailed gameplay announcement from Nintendo or The Pokémon Company. Until one of those appears, claimed locations, levels, items and moves should be treated as unverified speculation.
