You do not need source-code access to capture a website for review: open the page in a browser and use its screenshot controls. For a one-off review, Firefox can save a full-page image, the visible area, or a selected region. Choose the scope that keeps the issue clear, then check the image for private information before sharing it.
Choose the right capture for the review
Match the image to the question stakeholders need to answer. A full-page image preserves the page’s overall structure; a visible-area screenshot or selected region is easier to read closely when the review concerns one section or detail. Firefox documents all three options and lets you save the image or copy it to the clipboard (Mozilla Support: Take screenshots in Firefox).

- Full page: Use when reviewers need to see how sections fit together from top to bottom.
- Visible area: Use when the relevant content is already on screen and readability matters more than whole-page context.
- Selected region: Use to focus attention on a component, message, or layout issue without making reviewers hunt for it.
- Single element: Use Firefox Developer Tools when the target is a specific inspected page element.
Capture a page in Firefox without code access
- Open the public page, or the authorized logged-in page, in Firefox. Set the browser window and page state to what stakeholders should review.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot. The documented shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux and Command+Shift+S on macOS. Browser menus and shortcuts can change, so use the current screenshot menu if the shortcut does not work.
- Choose Save full page for the entire page or Save visible for the current viewport. To capture a region, drag over the area you want.
- Save the file or copy the capture to the clipboard, depending on how you plan to add it to the review.
- Open the saved image and inspect it at normal viewing size. Confirm the relevant text and controls are legible and that no information outside the intended review is exposed.
For a browser-specific walkthrough, see Firefox’s screenshot instructions. The available controls can vary with browser version.
Capture one element with Firefox Developer Tools
When a full page or viewport includes too much surrounding detail, Firefox Developer Tools can capture an inspected element. Open Developer Tools, select the element in the Inspector, then open its context menu and choose Screenshot Node. Firefox’s Web Console :screenshot helper also documents options for full-page capture, a delay, a filename, device-pixel ratio, and a CSS selector; see Firefox Source Docs: Taking screenshots for the current syntax and details.

Prepare the image for stakeholder review
- Add arrows, boxes, or short callouts only where they help readers locate the issue. Snagit documents annotation and callout tools; OpenCapture documents annotation and blur tools.
- Review the image before sharing. A screenshot can expose account details, personal information, internal URLs, or other content visible in the browser.
- If the page is logged in, verify that sharing the capture is permitted and that the image does not reveal private information.
- Name the file with a useful page or topic and capture date. In the review message, include the source page URL and capture date, and state whether the image shows the whole page or only one section.
Mozilla notes that Firefox screenshot telemetry is subject to its stated settings and policy; that is specific to Firefox, not a general claim about screenshots. OpenCapture describes its own blur workflow and local-processing approach, but those are project statements, not a guarantee about every extension. Check a tool’s permissions, export destination, and handling of captured data before using it with sensitive material (OpenCapture project).

Browser extensions
An extension may combine full-page, viewport, and region capture with editing and export. OpenCapture documents these modes, annotation, blur, and PNG/PDF export. Check the permissions and data handling of the specific extension you install. GoFullPage’s Chrome Web Store listing has a changelog with September 2026 entries, so its behavior and availability may change; consult the live listing for current details (GoFullPage listing).

Desktop capture software
For frequent reviews that require scrolling captures, annotation, and an organized image library, Snagit is an optional paid desktop tool. TechSmith describes support for vertical and horizontal scrolling capture, annotations, and capture organization. Its compatibility and dynamic-page statements are vendor-described capabilities, not an independent benchmark. TechSmith Support’s scrolling-capture article was updated June 11, 2026 (TechSmith Snagit; TechSmith Support: Does Snagit Support Scrolling Capture?).

- The screenshot shortcut does nothing: Use Firefox’s page context menu and select Take Screenshot; shortcuts can differ or change across browser versions.
- The full-page capture is hard to read: Capture the relevant region or visible area instead, or provide both a full-page context image and a focused detail image.
- A page element is missing: Confirm the page has reached the state you want before capture. If you need one element, use Developer Tools’ Inspector and Screenshot Node.
- The image shows information that should not be shared: Do not send it as-is. Redact or recapture with sensitive details out of view, then inspect the final image again.
- The extension or desktop tool behaves unexpectedly: Check its current documentation and permissions. Feature descriptions, especially project or vendor claims, are not a substitute for verifying that the tool suits the specific page.
Frequently asked questions
Can I capture a website I can view but cannot edit?
Yes. A browser screenshot records the page as rendered for you; source-code access is not needed. Capture only pages you are authorized to view and share.
Should I send a full-page image or a cropped screenshot?
Use a full-page image when layout context matters and a visible-area or region image when close inspection matters more. If reviewers need both context and detail, label and send separate captures.
