Use a browser screenshot to record the Google Search results page as it actually appears. If a consent prompt is still covering the results, keep it in the screenshot and describe the image as an obstructed view; the Playwright documentation cited for this workflow does not establish a Google-specific way to dismiss or bypass the prompt. For site-owner diagnostics, Google Search Console’s URL Inspection tool can show a different view: how Google renders a page during a successful live test.
First decide whose view you need to document
A local browser screenshot records what a visitor sees in that browser session, including any consent prompt. A Search Console URL Inspection screenshot records how Google’s inspection tool rendered a particular page. It does not capture the public Google Search results page.

Capture the visitor-visible SERP with Playwright
Playwright can capture the visible viewport, a particular element, or the full scrollable page. The example below opens a Google query and saves a viewport screenshot. It does not attempt to click through, remove, or otherwise alter a consent prompt. If the prompt remains, the resulting image documents that obstructed state.

This example deliberately does not wait for a consent-specific selector: the cited Playwright material does not establish a stable Google prompt selector or a consent-resolution workflow.

Choose the screenshot scope
- Viewport: the default shown above captures the visible browser area. Use it when the relevant results and any overlay fit on screen.
- Full page: pass
fullPage: truetopage.screenshotto capture the full scrollable page. This can be useful when the evidence needs to include results below the fold. - Element: locate the element you need and call its screenshot method, for example
await page.locator('main').screenshot({ path: 'results-area.png' }). Use an element capture only when it represents the evidence you intend to show; it will omit material outside that element.
For example, replace the screenshot line with await page.screenshot({ path: 'serp-full.png', fullPage: true }) for a full-page capture. A viewport image and a full-page image answer different questions, so select the scope before capturing rather than cropping away an obstructing prompt afterward.

Google’s Search screenshot guidance says to present the interface naturally and not modify the Search interface, autocomplete terms, or results. Do not manufacture, remove, or change displayed search content, and do not imply that Google endorses your project. Google also places responsibility on the screenshot user to obtain approvals for third-party material visible in the image.

Google’s guidance states that users do not need permission to use screenshots of Google Search and search results pages in print for educational or instructional purposes. That statement is limited to that medium and purpose; it should not be treated as a blanket permission for every publication or use.
For a site you manage, use URL Inspection for Google’s rendered view
If the question is how Google sees a page on your own site—not what a visitor sees on the public SERP—open Google Search Console’s URL Inspection tool, enter the page URL, and run a live test. The rendered screenshot is available when that live test succeeds and the page is reachable. It is not available for an indexed-URL inspection or when the fetch fails. This diagnostic image is not a substitute for a local-browser capture of search results.

Do not confuse a consent overlay with a crawl or snippet problem
A consent prompt covering the results in your local browser is different from a site crawl issue. Google explains that a robots.txt rule can prevent Google from crawling page content and generating a snippet even while the URL remains listed in Search. For a site owner seeking a proper snippet, Google says to allow Googlebot to crawl the page.

Can I use a consent-free screenshot as proof of what a visitor saw?
No. If the capture removes an overlay, it represents a changed page state rather than the obstructed view in the visitor’s browser.
Does a Google Search Console screenshot show the search results page?
No. URL Inspection’s rendered screenshot is for the inspected page as Google’s tool sees it, not the public SERP.
