To capture the same live page across multiple browser and device configurations, use LambdaTest’s screenshot API: submit the URL and a configuration matrix, save the returned test ID, then fetch the screenshot details or a ZIP archive. The current documentation is branded TestMu AI (formerly LambdaTest), while the documented API examples still use LambdaTest hostnames.
Choose the right bulk screenshot workflow
First decide whether you have a live page to capture or image files you have already captured. They use separate workflows:

| Workflow | Input | Use it for | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screenshot API | A URL and browser/device configurations | Capturing one live page across a configured matrix | A test ID, screenshot details, and a ZIP retrieval route |
| SmartUI upload | Existing PNG, JPEG, or JPG files and a project token | Adding locally captured images to a visual-regression build | A build for SmartUI’s comparison workflow |
SmartUI upload does not capture a URL. If your goal is to generate screenshots from a live page, use the screenshot API.

1. Prepare the URL and configuration matrix
Choose the page URL and the browser/device combinations you want the test to cover. The API schema also documents optional fields for deferred capture time, email notification, resolutions, tunnel settings, username and password, and a callback URL. Confirm the exact field formats and which configurations your account currently offers in the screenshot API reference; the schema alone does not establish current account entitlements or a complete platform matrix.
#1 Best Overall
For a local site or a page requiring sign-in, review the current tunnel and authentication instructions before submitting. Tunnel and credential fields exist in the request schema, but filling them in does not guarantee access to every site or login flow. Keep secrets out of source control, command history, and logs.
2. Authenticate and start the screenshot test
Send an authenticated POST request to the documented screenshot endpoint with the URL and configs object. The request returns a test_id to use when retrieving results. The API uses LambdaTest hostnames in its examples; the current documentation brand is TestMu AI (formerly LambdaTest).
The API reference contains the authoritative request and authentication details. Use its current endpoint and required fields rather than copying legacy browser versions shown in response examples as though they were supported options.

3. Save the test ID and retrieve results
Use the returned test ID with the documented screenshot details and ZIP endpoints. The details response provides status and screenshot metadata, including operating system, browser/version, resolution, and screenshot URLs in the documented example. The ZIP endpoint provides a URL for a compressed collection.
Check the response status and metadata before relying on the images. A test ID is a handle for follow-up; it is not proof that every requested capture completed successfully.
4. Review and archive the output
Use the details response to confirm which configurations produced screenshots and inspect their metadata. Retrieve the ZIP when you need a single archive for downloading or passing to another review step. If a result is missing or unexpected, check the test status and the configuration-specific metadata rather than assuming the whole matrix succeeded.
Upload existing images to SmartUI
If your screenshots were captured locally or by another tool, SmartUI’s upload API creates a build from a list of image files and a project token. Its guide lists PNG, JPEG, and JPG formats; a build name and baseline flag are optional. This is an upload-and-comparison route, not a substitute for the screenshot API when you need LambdaTest to render a live URL.
See the SmartUI upload guide for the current request format and project-token instructions. The guide was updated September 2, 2026.
Planning coverage, access, and timing
- Browser/device coverage: choose configurations based on the compatibility questions you need to answer, then verify their availability in the live documentation or account UI. The available API schema does not establish a complete current browser/device list or guarantee that every configuration is enabled for every account.
- Page access: public URLs are the simplest case. For local or authenticated pages, configure the documented tunnel or authentication approach and validate access for the specific site.
- Capture timing: the request schema documents deferred capture time and other optional fields. Consult the current API reference for their accepted values and behavior.
- Result handling: plan to retain the test ID and retrieve details or the ZIP after starting a test. Do not treat request submission alone as a completed screenshot set.
- Limits and cost: current pricing, request limits, and plan entitlements are not established by the API reference material cited here. Check current product and account information before estimating a large run.
Troubleshooting common problems
The request is rejected
Confirm authentication, the current endpoint, required request fields, and the structure of the configs object against the live API reference. Avoid relying on an old copied request or on browser versions appearing only in a legacy example.

A test ID is returned but screenshots are missing
Use the test ID with the details endpoint and inspect its status and per-screenshot metadata. The documented workflow separates starting a test from retrieving its outcomes, so check those results before treating the run as complete.
A local or login-protected page cannot be reached
Check the current tunnel setup and authentication instructions, then verify that the specific page can be reached through that setup. The presence of tunnel and username/password fields in the schema is not a guarantee that a site’s network rules or login behavior will work without additional configuration.

The requested browser or device is unavailable
Check the current configuration options in the documentation or account UI. The API schema does not confirm a full platform matrix or access to every option on every account.
You have image files but no live URL capture to run
Use SmartUI’s image-upload route with supported image files and a project token. Uploading existing files creates a build; it does not render the source page.

If you need a clean screenshot from a URL without configuring a browser matrix yourself, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API and an MCP server. It accepts cookie/consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with response headers identifying the page verdict and billing status. AI agents can use its MCP tools, and 1,000 screenshots a month are free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
Example cURL request (replace the target URL and API key):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options and response details. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card required.
