To capture a page that extends below the screen, use Chrome for Android’s Long screenshot. To compare a site at a specific responsive width, use Chrome DevTools on a computer; that is a simulation, not a native Android capture.
Choose the capture method that matches your goal

These methods do different jobs. A long screenshot does not set a CSS viewport width, and Chrome’s Desktop site setting is not a substitute for a controlled responsive viewport.

Take a screenshot of the current Android screen
- Open the website in Chrome for Android and arrange the page as you want it to appear, including the scroll position and any open menus or dialogs.
- Use the screenshot control supported by your phone. Pressing Power and Volume down together is a common Android method. Some phones offer a screenshot option in the Power-button menu; gestures and controls vary by manufacturer and Android version.
- Use the screenshot preview to edit, save, or share the image.
This captures the phone’s displayed screen, so it is the appropriate choice when you want the real device rendering and interface elements such as Chrome’s toolbar or Android’s status bar. Scrolling screenshot availability depends on the device and Android version.
Capture a long webpage in Chrome for Android
- Open the webpage in Chrome on the Android phone.
- Tap More > Share… > Long screenshot.
- Drag the crop handles to include the page length you want, tap Confirm, then save or share the image.
This is a manually extended image of the page. It does not let you specify a responsive CSS width, so it is not the right tool for comparing how a layout changes at exact breakpoints.

Capture a responsive viewport or full page with desktop Chrome
For repeatable responsive screenshots, use Chrome DevTools Device Mode on a computer. It lets you enter responsive dimensions or select a device preset, then capture either the visible viewport or the full page.
- Open the website in desktop Chrome and open DevTools.
- Turn on the device toolbar. Device Mode starts with Responsive dimensions; enter the viewport dimensions you need or select a device preset.
- Open More options and choose Capture screenshot for the visible viewport.
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot when you need content beyond the viewport.
If Show device frame is enabled in device-specific mode, the capture can include a device frame. For clean breakpoint comparisons, record the viewport dimensions used for each capture and keep them consistent.

Device Mode simulates a mobile environment; it does not reproduce every characteristic of physical hardware, including all CPU-architecture differences. Use it for controlled viewport comparisons, then check important behavior on a real Android phone when device-specific rendering or interaction matters.
Inspect a real Android Chrome tab from your computer
Remote debugging connects desktop DevTools to a live Chrome tab on the phone. It is useful when you need to inspect or interact with the actual page rather than rely only on desktop simulation.

- On Android, enable Developer Options and USB debugging.
- Connect the phone to the development computer with a USB data cable, and accept the authorization prompt on the phone if it appears. Check that the cable supports data and that its connector is compatible with both devices.
- In desktop Chrome, open
chrome://inspect/#devices. - Find the relevant open tab and select its inspect option. Use the DevTools screencast to view and interact with the page.
The screencast is page-focused: transparent areas represent device interfaces such as Chrome’s address bar, the Android status bar, or the keyboard. It should not be treated as an opaque image of the entire phone screen.
Desktop site, zoom, and responsive width are different controls
Chrome for Android’s Desktop site setting asks a website to provide a desktop-oriented presentation; Chrome also supports per-site control. A changed setting may require refreshing the page. It does not let you enter a precise responsive viewport width. Page zoom changes the apparent scale, while DevTools Device Mode controls the simulated viewport dimensions. Use the control that matches the question you are testing rather than treating them as interchangeable.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
- Long screenshot is missing from Share: Confirm you are using Chrome for Android and open the sharing menu from the webpage. The available screenshot controls can differ by app, device, and Android version; use the phone’s system screenshot if the option is unavailable.
- The long image cuts off content: Reopen the Long screenshot editor and adjust its crop handles before confirming.
- The capture does not match a breakpoint you intended to test: A phone screenshot and a Long screenshot use the phone’s current display; neither sets a controlled CSS viewport. Use Device Mode and enter the required responsive dimensions.
- The responsive screenshot differs from the phone: Device Mode is a simulation. Verify behavior on the physical Android device, or connect it for remote debugging.
- The Android device does not appear in
chrome://inspect/#devices: Check that Developer Options and USB debugging are enabled, that the USB cable supports data, and that any authorization prompt has been accepted. - The screencast seems to omit browser or system chrome: Remote-debugging screencasts show page content, with device-interface areas represented transparently. Use a system screenshot when you need an image of the whole displayed phone screen.
Performance, reliability, and cost considerations
For a quick one-off image of the current phone display, the system screenshot avoids computer setup. Long screenshots add manual crop adjustment. DevTools is more suitable when you need a set of repeatable viewport sizes; remote debugging adds USB setup but exposes the real tab for inspection. For reliable comparisons, keep viewport dimensions and page state consistent, and confirm device-sensitive results on hardware.
