Prepare the Ubuntu server
Install a current Playwright release and its selected browser, including the operating-system dependencies required by that release. Linux dependency steps vary with the Playwright version, Ubuntu release, and CPU architecture, so use the official Playwright CI guidance for the server rather than relying on a copied package list that may be stale.

Capture a URL list with Playwright
The following Node.js pattern reads one URL per line from urls.txt, starts one browser, uses a fixed viewport, saves full-page PNGs, and records failures without abandoning the remaining URLs. It uses Playwright’s documented screenshot and browser APIs. Adapt readiness for the sites you capture; no single wait condition suits every page.

The numeric filenames are stable for a fixed ordering of urls.txt; if the input list changes, map each URL to a sanitized or hashed filename instead, and ensure different URLs cannot produce the same path. Keep a URL-to-file manifest if you need to trace images back to their inputs.
Choose readiness and capture shape
- Navigation:
domcontentloadedwaits for the initial document parse, not for every client-rendered element, image, or background request. For a known site, wait for a meaningful selector with Playwright’s locator or page wait APIs. Usenetworkidleonly where it makes sense; analytics, polling, and persistent connections can prevent network activity from becoming idle. - Fixed viewport: omit
fullPageor set it tofalsewhen screenshots must have consistent dimensions for comparison. - Full page:
fullPage: truecaptures the full scrollable page. Lazy-loaded content may not appear unless the site is prompted to load it first. - Element capture: use a locator’s screenshot method when only one component is needed, for example

Replace the selector with one that exists on the target page. - Rendering differences: set the viewport and device scale explicitly. Fonts, animation, responsive layout, time-sensitive content, and third-party widgets can still cause differences between runs.
Add concurrency only after observing the host
Parallel pages can reduce elapsed time but raise CPU and memory use and send more simultaneous requests to target sites. There is no universal safe concurrency setting: begin sequentially, monitor the Ubuntu host and failures, then increase concurrency cautiously. Keep a per-URL result record and a bounded number of active pages or workers. Respect target-site access rules and avoid using concurrency as a way to overwhelm a site.

Confirm it on the actual host and check that version’s command-line syntax before making this a scheduled job. Chrome’s --timeout=<milliseconds> option sets a maximum wait before capture; it does not guarantee that a site’s application content is ready. Troubleshoot failed captures

Make recurring runs reproducible
- Keep the URL input, script, browser version, viewport, device scale, readiness policy, and output format under version control or otherwise recorded.
- Use a separate output directory for each run if old screenshots must remain available; write a manifest containing run time, URL, result, and filename.
- Choose retries carefully. A transient network problem may justify a limited retry, while a repeatable access denial or CAPTCHA generally will not be fixed by retrying aggressively.
- Set a retention policy for screenshots and failure logs, especially if captured pages may contain private or personal information.
- Run as a non-root service user where practical, and restrict access to API keys, cookies, and screenshot output.
