To capture Hindi text correctly, send intact Unicode to the page, load a font that covers its Devanagari characters, and wait until both the content and font are ready before taking the screenshot. Then inspect the rendered text and image separately. A screenshot API captures the browser’s rendering; its image settings cannot fix corrupted input, missing glyphs, or incorrect font loading.
Why Hindi text can look wrong in a screenshot
Devanagari rendering involves more than displaying isolated letters. Vowel signs can combine with other characters, and consonants can form clusters; the script runs left to right in horizontal lines. The browser needs a suitable font and must shape the characters correctly. The W3C’s description of Devanagari explains these script characteristics: W3C predefined counter styles: Devanagari.

A screenshot can capture a page before its web font finishes loading. Google Fonts documents browser-dependent results: Chrome can leave text using an unloaded font blank, while Firefox can show fallback text and replace it after the font loads. These are documented examples, not a guarantee that every browser behaves identically. See Google Fonts’ technical considerations.

Check the text and font first
Confirm the input is intact Unicode
Inspect the page’s source or the HTML/text supplied to the API. Check for the intended Hindi characters, not replacement characters, corrupted text, or an incorrectly encoded request. For HTML you control, declare the document encoding appropriately and preserve valid Unicode through the request path. Avoid manually converting Hindi to escaped values unless the API or transport requires it; encode URL parameters according to that API’s rules.
Google Fonts documents UTF-8 character use and script subsets. If a font request uses a subset or a text= parameter, make sure it covers the characters in the passage. A subset that omits a required character can leave the browser without the intended glyph. Check the provider’s documentation for how it accepts HTML or text; transport behavior varies between APIs. Verify font coverage and loading
In the same browser or runtime used for capture, inspect the element’s computed font and the network requests for its stylesheet and font files. Check that the selected font covers the passage, including vowel signs and conjuncts, and that its files load successfully. If the intended font is missing or delayed, the browser may render fallback text or, in some cases, blank space until the font arrives.

Wait for the page-specific readiness condition
Wait for the Hindi content you need and for the relevant font to be ready, rather than treating navigation completion or an arbitrary delay as proof. With browser automation, combine an assertion that the expected text is present with a page-context check for font readiness. Playwright recommends assertions for readiness and discourages using networkidle as a general testing signal; see its Page API documentation.
One possible browser-side font check is await document.fonts.ready. It resolves when the document’s font loading and layout operations have completed, but it does not prove that the intended font covers every Hindi character or that shaping looks correct. Verify the computed font and final image too. For pages with content that appears asynchronously, wait for the target element or a page-specific condition as well.
Hosted APIs expose different controls. ScreenshotOne, for example, documents navigation wait events, delays, selector waits, injected scripts and styles, and font metadata options at its options page. A selector wait can establish that an element is in the DOM without necessarily proving it is visible, and none of these controls alone proves Devanagari rendered correctly. Check the current documentation for the API you use.

Set viewport and screenshot scale deliberately
Set the viewport before navigation when responsive layout affects the text: viewport width can change font size, line wrapping, and which content appears. Then choose an output scale for the delivery format. In Playwright, screenshots can use CSS-pixel scale or device-pixel scale; see the screenshot options. A larger output can show more pixel detail, but it cannot restore absent glyphs, fix an unsuitable font, or correct bad input.

Validate both text and image
- Check the page text or a text snapshot for the exact intended Hindi passage.
- Inspect the screenshot for missing or blank glyphs, malformed conjuncts, misplaced marks, clipping, and unexpected line wrapping.
- Keep browser, operating system, installed fonts, viewport, and related settings consistent when comparing captures. Rendering differences across environments can change image results.

Use a repeatable browser-automation capture
For a page you control, this Playwright example sets the viewport before navigation, waits for a target passage, checks its text, waits for document fonts, and writes a screenshot. Install Playwright and its browser for your environment first. Replace the URL and expected text with your page’s values.

It still cannot certify glyph coverage or shaping; inspect the image, and check the actual font request and computed font when output is wrong. Use a full-page screenshot instead of an element screenshot if the required content spans the whole page.

- Text is blank: Check whether the intended web font request failed or was still loading at capture time. Verify the font in the capture browser and wait for the relevant content and fonts before taking the screenshot.
- Some characters are missing or replaced: Compare the source text with the intended passage, then check font coverage and any requested script subset or
text=character list. - Marks or conjuncts look wrong: Confirm that the chosen font supports the full passage and inspect the result in the same browser/runtime as the capture. A correct screenshot scale cannot repair shaping.
- The page has text, but the screenshot does not: Check whether the capture happened before font loading or before asynchronously rendered content appeared. Wait for the target content and font condition, not only navigation.
- Text wraps or clips differently: Set the intended viewport before navigation and confirm the target element is visible and within the captured area. Check responsive breakpoints and screenshot scope.
- Repeated captures differ: Keep the browser, operating system, installed fonts, viewport, and scale consistent; environmental changes can affect rendered pixels.
