To capture a useful Google Maps local-pack screenshot, record the exact query, locality, device or viewport, and date and time, then save an unaltered image showing the results in context. Treat it as a snapshot of one search—not proof of a universal or guaranteed ranking across India.
What a local-pack screenshot can—and cannot—show
A screenshot preserves what appeared in one search context at a particular time. Results may differ with the query, search area, device, viewport, interface, or time of observation. Label the image with those details so a client or colleague can interpret it accurately.

Do not present one capture as a position that every user in India sees, or as evidence that a business will retain that position. Google says agencies and others cannot promise prominent placement on Search, Street View, or Maps: Google Business Profile guidance.
How to capture the Google Maps 3-pack
- Define the observation. Before searching, write down the precise search phrase, target locality or area, device type, intended viewport, and capture date and time. Decide whether you are documenting results in Google Search or in the Maps interface.
- Run the search in the chosen context. Open Google Search or Maps on the device you intend to document and search the same phrase and locality. No current official button-by-button procedure for every desktop or mobile interface is published, so use the device’s ordinary screenshot function rather than relying on unverified control names.
- Frame the evidence. If the local pack is visible, include enough of the page to identify the query and the businesses and positions being recorded. Avoid a crop that removes context needed to understand what was searched.
- Save the original and its notes. Keep the direct, unaltered screenshot. Store the query, locality, device and viewport, interface (Search or Maps), and timestamp with the file—for example, in a sidecar note or clearly named folder.
- Repeat consistently for a comparison. Use the same query, area, device and viewport, and interface in later captures. Record the new date and time, and explain any changed conditions rather than calling every difference a controlled ranking change.
How to track a Google Maps ranking in India responsibly
Use screenshots as a dated observation log, not a substitute for a universal rank measurement. For each capture, retain these comparison fields:

- Exact query, including wording and language.
- Locality or search area used.
- Device type and viewport.
- Date and time of capture.
- Whether the result came from Google Search or Google Maps.
When one field changes, say so in the report. A different device, interface, place, or time makes the two images different search contexts; the screenshots alone do not establish why the results differed.
Keep the Google interface realistic and review use rights
Google’s Search screenshot guidance says to keep the interface realistic and not alter its appearance or manufacture, remove, or alter search suggestions or results. It also says Search should be supplemental and its use must not imply an endorsement or affiliation that does not exist. For screenshots used in promotional material, you are responsible for obtaining third-party approvals for content shown.

The same guidance says permission is not required for screenshots of Google Search pages and results used for educational or instructional purposes in print. Do not extend that statement automatically to web, promotional, or other commercial uses. Google Maps, Google Earth, and Street View also have separate requirements in Google’s Geo Guidelines; check the live guidance for the intended medium and placement.

Do not confuse a Maps pack with Street View
A local pack is a set of local business results shown in Search or Maps. Street View is imagery captured by cameras as they passed a location; Google says it can be months or years old after processing: Street View policy. It is not a live view of a business or a local-pack result.
Google announced India’s Street View launch on 27 July 2022, naming Genesys International and Tech Mahindra as local partners and describing availability in selected cities at launch: Google’s India announcement. That dated launch announcement is not a current inventory of coverage across India.
