Choose between a simulated and a real tablet screenshot
Use Chrome DevTools when you need to test a website at a controlled width. It lets you enter 720 CSS pixels directly and repeat the same capture. Use the Android tablet itself when you need to record what its actual browser renders, including device-specific behavior and system interface.

Capture a website at 720 CSS pixels with Chrome DevTools

On a computer, open the target website in Chrome.

Open DevTools and select Toggle device toolbar. In the device toolbar, leave the device setting on Responsive.

720in the width field. Set the height to the viewport height you want to inspect; the width alone does not determine how much vertical content appears. -
Choose the device type and DPR for the test. Select Mobile if you want the page to respond as a mobile viewport. If the tablet experience you need depends on desktop behavior, choose or add a suitable device configuration and check the page instead of assuming every tablet should use mobile mode.

Open More options. Choose Capture screenshot for the visible viewport, or Capture a full size screenshot to include content beyond the fold.

Open the saved image and verify its dimensions if a publishing system or other destination requires an exact raster width. Resize or crop afterward only if needed, keeping the important content in frame.
Chrome’s controls and labels can vary by version. Its documentation covers custom dimensions, DPR, device type, and both screenshot capture options at Device Mode.

Save a reusable 720-pixel device preset
To avoid re-entering dimensions for recurring checks, open DevTools Settings > Devices > Add custom device. Enter a name, width, and height. DPR, user agent, and device type are optional fields. The preset helps reproduce a test configuration, but it does not make DevTools identical to a physical tablet.
Understand 720 CSS pixels versus a 720-pixel image
The width entered in Responsive mode is a CSS viewport width—the width the page’s responsive layout receives. DPR describes how CSS pixels map to physical pixels in the rendered output. As a result, setting the viewport to 720 CSS pixels does not guarantee that the exported image file is exactly 720 raster pixels wide.
- For responsive layout testing: Set the viewport width to 720 CSS pixels.
- For an exact image specification: Inspect the saved file’s pixel dimensions. If it is not 720 pixels wide, resize or crop it to the required dimensions.
- For accurate device-specific rendering: Check the result on the actual tablet as well as in DevTools.
Take a screenshot on an Android tablet

Open the website in the tablet’s intended browser and navigate to the page and position you want to capture.

Try pressing Power and Volume Down together. Android’s general guide gives this as the common screenshot control, but button behavior and menus can differ by manufacturer and model. See Android’s screenshot instructions.

On Android 12 or later, use Capture more if it appears and you need a longer screenshot. It is available on most screens that allow scrolling, not every screen.

If the button combination does not work, check the instructions for your tablet’s exact model. Lenovo’s India support page, for example, also describes pressing and holding Power and Volume Down together and finding the image under Photos > Library > Screenshots; that guidance applies to the Lenovo support coverage, not every Android tablet. Check which website version the tablet is showing
A physical tablet screenshot may not match a DevTools mobile viewport because the browser can request a desktop site. Chrome says desktop-site mode is enabled by default on premium Android tablets it describes as having at least a 10-inch display and 8 GB of RAM. Users can change desktop-site settings, and existing opt-outs are respected. This is Chrome’s stated behavior for those tablets, not a universal Android tablet specification; see Chrome’s desktop-site explanation.
If the page looks unexpectedly wide or behaves like a desktop site, check the browser’s desktop-site setting before concluding that the 720-pixel layout is wrong. For a controlled responsive test, DevTools is more direct; for the final appearance on a particular tablet, use that device.

Troubleshoot common capture problems

The screenshot is not 720 pixels wide: Confirm whether 720 refers to CSS viewport width or final file width. Check the exported image dimensions; DPR affects the mapping from CSS pixels to rendered pixels.

The page shows only the top portion: Use More options > Capture a full size screenshot in DevTools. On a physical tablet, try Capture more if available; it is not supported on every screen.

The page layout looks like a desktop site on the tablet: Check Chrome’s desktop-site setting. Tablet capabilities and user preferences can affect which site version the browser requests.

The screenshot buttons do nothing: Android controls vary across models. Try Power plus Volume Down, then consult the tablet maker’s instructions if that combination fails.
