Capture the part of the page your report needs, then record the page title and exact source URL in the report caption or notes. Do not assume either appears in the screenshot: Firefox’s saved filename includes a timestamp and page title, but its documentation does not say it includes the URL.
Choose the right kind of capture
- Full page: Use this when content below the visible area matters.
- Visible area: Use this when the evidence is limited to what is currently on screen.
- Region or element: Use this when only a selected detail or page component is relevant.
For a report that needs selectable text or page-format evidence as well as an image, save a PDF or another suitable record too. A screenshot is a visual record of the rendered page at the time of capture.

Capture in Firefox
Use Firefox’s built-in screenshot tool
- Open the webpage and right-click an empty area, then choose Take Screenshot. Alternatively, use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page to capture the whole page or Save visible for the current viewport. Firefox also offers region and automatically selected page-part options.
- Save the image. Mozilla says it is saved to the default download folder. Its filename includes a date/time and the page title, in a format like
Screenshot year-month-day at hour-minute-second Page title.png.
The filename can help identify the capture, but the documented behavior does not establish that it contains the source URL. Copy the exact URL from the address bar into your report separately.

Use Firefox Developer Tools for an element or full-page capture
Firefox Developer Tools can capture an entire page or a single element. Its Web Console :screenshot helper supports controls for delay, device-pixel ratio, filename, clipboard behavior, an element selector, and --fullpage for content outside the viewport. If the screenshot toolbar button is missing, enable it in Developer Tools Settings under Available Toolbox Buttons. Use a unique filename for each report capture: Mozilla warns that an existing filename is overwritten.
Use Edge when the report needs print headers or page numbers
Edge’s print dialog is a print-oriented alternative, not a screenshot tool. Open the print dialog, expand More settings, and enable Headers and footers to add the current date to the document header and page numbers to the footer. You can also enable background graphics if print preview differs from the webpage. Immersive Reader offers a clutter-free print workflow on sites where it is available.

These print settings do not establish that the source URL is included in the output. Check the resulting document and retain the exact URL in your report notes or caption.

- Page title, transcribed from the page or the Firefox-generated filename.
- Exact source URL, copied from the browser address bar.
- Capture date and time, preferably with timezone.
- Browser and version.
- Capture type: visible viewport, selected region or element, full page, or print output.
- Image filename and a note if the page was scrolled, altered, or shown in a special state.
Verify the final artifact rather than assuming its metadata is visible. Keep the URL as a clickable citation next to the image; the screenshot and the source link serve different purposes.
