For an ordinary screenshot, launch it without overriding its default browser arguments, open the page, and call page.screenshot(). The example below uses Puppeteer v25.12.0 documentation defaults; check the installed version if your project uses another release.
Capture a webpage with extensions disabled
Puppeteer’s troubleshooting documentation says it passes --disable-extensions by default. You do not need a special extension setting: leave the default launch arguments in place and avoid enabling extensions.

Choose what part of the page to capture
In Puppeteer v25.12.0, the screenshot options include path, type, fullPage, clip, and captureBeyondViewport. For details, see the ScreenshotOptions reference.
fullPage: truerequests a capture of the full page; the default isfalse.- For the visible viewport, omit
fullPageor set it tofalse. - Use
clipto capture a specific rectangular region, or use the documentedElementHandle.screenshot()method to capture an element. pathsaves the image to disk. Iftypeis omitted, Puppeteer defaults to PNG; when saving to a path, its extension is used to infer the image type.
For example, to save a viewport capture as JPEG, use await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.jpg', type: 'jpeg' });. For a full-page PNG, use await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });.

Keep Puppeteer’s default launch arguments
Puppeteer’s LaunchOptions reference documents args for additional browser command-line arguments and ignoreDefaultArgs for filtering Puppeteer’s defaults. If extensions must remain disabled, do not filter out --disable-extensions. The documentation cautions that users probably want the default arguments, so avoid changing them unless you know which behavior the change affects. See LaunchOptions.
The same reference documents enableExtensions as either true or an array of unpacked extension paths. Do not set it for a normal extension-free screenshot.

Headless mode and debugging
Puppeteer v25.12.0 documents headless: true as the default, so the example runs without a visible browser window. Set headless: false if you need to watch the browser while diagnosing a page or automation problem. Puppeteer also documents headless: 'shell' for the older chrome-headless-shell mode. The headless modes guide notes that this mode does not completely match regular Chrome, though it can be more performant for automation that does not need the full feature set.
Troubleshoot launch, navigation, and capture problems
- Chrome fails to launch with an extension policy error: Puppeteer warns that a Chrome policy requiring certain extensions can conflict with its default
--disable-extensionsflag. Its documented workaround isenableExtensions: true, but that changes the extension behavior; it is not the setting for an extension-disabled capture. Check whether the managed Chrome environment requires extensions before changing this option. See Puppeteer troubleshooting. - The screenshot is missing late-loading content:
networkidle2is a useful starting point, not a promise that all page scripts, lazy images, or delayed widgets have finished. Choose a wait condition appropriate to the page, or wait for a page-specific selector before capturing. - The image only shows the visible area:
fullPagedefaults tofalse. Set it totruewhen you want a full-page capture. - You see no browser window: That is expected in the default headless mode. Use
headless: falsewhen a visible window is useful for debugging. - A launch change unexpectedly breaks automation: Review any use of
ignoreDefaultArgsand restore Puppeteer’s defaults unless you intentionally need to remove a specific argument.

Does Puppeteer disable extensions by default?
Yes. In the documented default launch configuration, Puppeteer passes the `–disable-extensions` browser flag.
