On a Mac, open the webpage in Safari and press Shift-Command-5. Choose Capture Selected Window to include the Safari window, or Capture Selected Portion to frame only the part you want on the slide. For a quick crop, press Shift-Command-4 and drag over the area. These built-in captures are PNG files; they show what is on screen, not automatically the entire length of a long webpage. Apple’s Mac screenshot guide documents the controls and options.
Capture a Safari webpage on Mac
- Open and prepare the page. Navigate to the intended webpage in Safari, then arrange the browser so the relevant content is visible. Before capturing, check that the page is in the state you want a client to see.
- Open Screenshot. Press Shift-Command-5 to show the Screenshot panel.
- Choose what to capture. Select Capture Selected Window if Safari’s window is useful context. Select Capture Selected Portion to focus on a specific webpage area; drag the frame to reposition it or adjust its edges.
- Set options if needed. Select Options to choose a timer delay or a save location. Apple also documents a floating thumbnail: drag it into a document, email, note, or Finder window, or open it for markup or sharing.
- Take and place the screenshot. Capture the image, then insert it into the presentation if you did not drag the thumbnail directly into your document.
Apple says Mac screenshots are saved as PNG files. With the keyboard shortcuts, the default save location is the desktop; the Screenshot panel provides save-location options. See Apple’s instructions for Mac screenshots.

Choose the right capture for the slide
Show the browser window
Use Capture Selected Window when the Safari window itself provides helpful context. Before you capture, make sure the visible page area is the part you want the client to focus on.

Show only a webpage region
Use Capture Selected Portion when browser chrome or unrelated content would distract from the point of the slide. Adjust the selection frame to include the complete section you need.

Use a keyboard shortcut instead
- Shift-Command-3: captures the entire screen.
- Shift-Command-4: lets you select an area by dragging.
- Shift-Command-4, then Space: lets you select a window or the menu bar.
For a delayed capture, a different save destination, or the floating-thumbnail workflow, use the Screenshot panel opened with Shift-Command-5.
Does a Mac screenshot capture the whole webpage?
The Mac instructions described here capture screen content, a selected window, or a selected area. Apple’s reviewed Mac screenshot guide does not document a Safari command that captures an entire long webpage beyond the visible screen. If the page extends below the viewport, capture the visible portion you need or use a separate capture method rather than assuming the Mac shortcut will include the rest.

For a full-page Safari capture on iPhone
Apple documents a separate full-page workflow on iPhone. Take a screenshot using the device’s buttons, tap Full Page, then save the result as an image to Photos or as a PDF to Files. Apple gives an entire Safari webpage as an example of content extending beyond the screen. This is an iPhone option, not a Mac Safari feature. See Apple’s iPhone screenshot instructions.
Screenshot or save the webpage?
A screenshot preserves the page’s appearance as an image for a presentation. Safari’s File > Save As menu serves a different purpose: choose Web Archive to save webpage material, including graphics, or Page Source to save the HTML source. Apple notes that links in a Web Archive work while their destination pages remain available, and that some webpages may prevent items from being saved. Neither format is a screenshot image. For details, see Apple’s Safari guide to saving a webpage.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a repeatable webpage capture rather than a one-off Mac screenshot, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one GET request. For example, this cURL command saves a WebP capture of Stripe; replace the URL with the page you need and supply your API key:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides screenshot and page-info tools for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

- The screenshot shows only what was visible. That is expected for the Mac screen, window, and area capture methods covered here. Scroll the page to capture another section, or use the iPhone full-page workflow when appropriate.
- The selection includes too much or too little. In the Screenshot panel, choose Capture Selected Portion, then move or resize the frame before capturing.
- The image is hard to find. Check the desktop if you used a keyboard shortcut with the default save location. To choose another destination, open the panel with Shift-Command-5 and select Options.
- You need a delay before the capture. Open Options in the Screenshot panel and set a timer delay.
- You saved a Web Archive or Page Source instead of an image. Those are webpage-saving formats under Safari’s File > Save As, not screenshot outputs. Use the Screenshot panel or a screenshot shortcut for a visual image.
