How to Schedule a Daily YouTube Live Rerun of Gaming Tournament Matches

YouTube Studio can schedule a live event for a future time, but its documented workflow does not provide a daily recurrence switch. To rerun a tournament match each day, create a separate scheduled broadcast for each date—or automate event creation with YouTube’s Live Streaming API—and arrange for an encoder or cloud playout service to send the recorded match to each event. Scheduling the event alone does not play the video.

What you need to schedule a daily rerun

Think of a YouTube live broadcast as two parts: the broadcast is the event and watch page; the stream is the incoming audio/video feed. You schedule the event in Studio or create it through the API, but a separate encoder or playout system must deliver the recording at the right time. YouTube documents scheduling individual events, not a native daily rerun setting. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and Google’s broadcast and stream model describe these separate roles.

  • A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube Help checked October 3, 2026. Check YouTube’s current eligibility guidance.
  • A match recording you have permission to retransmit, including any game footage, tournament production, player feeds, commentary, graphics and music.
  • An encoder or playout system that can send the recording as a live feed at the scheduled time. YouTube supports encoder software; dedicated expensive equipment is not required to get started. YouTube live-streaming tips.
  • A decision about whether each day should have its own watch-page URL and updated title, description, thumbnail, privacy and category.

Schedule each daily event manually in YouTube Studio

  1. Confirm live access. Verify the channel and check that it has no live-stream restriction in the last 90 days. Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio if needed; allow up to 24 hours for initial activation.
  2. Create the event. In YouTube Studio, go to Create > Go Live > Manage > Schedule Stream. Choose Create new for a new event or Reuse settings to start from an earlier one. Set the date and start time, then review the title, description, privacy, category and thumbnail. Repeat for every date; reusing settings does not make a daily recurrence.
  3. Connect the encoder. In the encoder’s stream settings, select YouTube if the option is available. Otherwise, copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube’s Live Control Room into the encoder. Select the tournament replay file or the playout output as the source. YouTube’s event schedule does not start file playback.
  4. Check the feed before airtime. Confirm the whole file plays, the audio is present, and the encoder is sending a stable feed. YouTube recommends setting up two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event. Check the Live Control Room preview and that the watch page is available. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
  5. Start and end the broadcast. Start the encoder, wait for the preview, then click Go live in the Live Control Room. When the match ends, stop the feed and end the stream. YouTube Help checked October 3, 2026 says encoder streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; do not rely on that automatic archive guidance for a stream lasting 12 hours or longer. YouTube’s encoder instructions.

Choose a workflow for repeating the schedule

Approach Best suited to What it handles Trade-off
Schedule each event manually in Studio Occasional reruns or a daily schedule with an operator available Creates and manages each event; the operator starts the feed and checks the broadcast Requires handling each date and monitoring each start
Create events with the Live Streaming API Developers or operators automating repeat event creation Creates separately dated broadcast resources and can bind them to a reusable stream Requires implementation, channel authorization and live permissions; it does not play the video file
Reuse an encoder stream configuration Reruns with consistent encoder settings Reduces repeated setup of ingestion settings Each event still needs correct timing, stream binding, a live feed and monitoring

Automate event creation with the API

Google’s Live Streaming API supports creating a broadcast resource for each scheduled event and binding it to a reusable stream resource. Each broadcast remains its own event. Automation therefore needs both an event-creation task—setting the scheduled start, title and privacy, then binding the stream—and a playout task that sends the intended recording at the right time. The API manages broadcast resources; it is not a scheduler for playing a local video file. API requests require appropriate channel authorization and live permissions, and broadcast creation is subject to API limits. See Google’s implementation guide, LiveBroadcasts: insert and Live Streaming API overview.

Keep the match replay rights-safe

Before scheduling repeat public broadcasts, confirm that the tournament organizer and relevant rights holders permit retransmission. Permission to stream a game does not automatically establish permission to rebroadcast a tournament’s production, a player’s feed, commentary, broadcast graphics or music. The rights for a particular match depend on its agreements and content; YouTube’s technical support for a stream or archive is not proof of permission.

Reuse settings carefully. YouTube says a stream key tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it; treat the key like a password. If it is exposed, reset it and update the encoder. Reusing event settings may also reuse the previous key, so confirm the correct key and event binding before each broadcast. YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance.

Common problems and fixes

  • The event appears on the channel, but no match plays: The event is only the scheduled watch page. Start the encoder or playout system and confirm it is sending the recording.
  • The encoder cannot connect: Check that the stream URL and key are correct and that the key belongs to the intended stream. Reset a compromised key, then replace it in the encoder.
  • The scheduled event has the wrong date or details: Review each broadcast’s start time, privacy, title, description, category and thumbnail. A reused event configuration does not create the next day’s event automatically.
  • The preview has no picture or sound: Check the selected replay source, play the file through its full duration, verify audio routing, and confirm the encoder feed appears in Live Control Room before going live.
  • Live streaming is unavailable: Check channel verification, live-stream restrictions within the previous 90 days, and whether initial activation is still pending. First activation may take up to 24 hours.
  • The archive is missing after a long rerun: The cited YouTube Help guidance covers automatic archives for encoder streams under 12 hours. It does not establish the same automatic behavior for longer streams.
