How do I capture a webpage as a JPEG with an API?
A screenshot API renders a URL in a browser and returns image data; it does not photograph your physical screen. The exact parameter names vary by provider. Two documented approaches are ScreenshotOne’s URL-based GET endpoint and Browserless’s POST endpoint.

Use format=jpeg (the documented alias jpg also works) and provide the page URL and access key. This cURL example saves the response as screenshot.jpg:

Browserless: POST request
Browserless accepts a JSON body at its screenshot endpoint. Set options.type to jpeg and write the response body to a file:

How do I get a full-page website screenshot?
A viewport capture contains only the visible browser area. A full-page capture attempts to include the page below the fold, but long or dynamic pages may need extra handling for all content to appear.
- ScreenshotOne: set
full_page=true. Its documentation says full-page scrolling is enabled by default with this option unless overridden. It also describes a section-based capture method for complex pages. - Browserless: set
options.fullPage=true. Its documentation also describesscrollPage: true, which scrolls through the page before capture and can help trigger lazy-loaded content; it can be combined with full-page mode.
For pages that load images or sections only as the visitor scrolls, scrolling before capture can help. If the page is still rendering when the image is taken, allow more time using the provider’s supported waiting options. These additions can increase latency, so use them only when the page needs them.

How do I set screenshot quality?
JPEG is lossy: reducing quality can reduce file size, but may introduce visible compression artifacts. ScreenshotOne documents the image_quality setting as a value from 0 to 100, with a default of 80; the documentation does not identify one best setting for every use. For example, add --data-urlencode 'image_quality=80' to the cURL request if you want to make that documented default explicit, or choose another value in the supported range and inspect the resulting image.
Choose quality according to the image’s purpose: a small preview may tolerate more compression than a visual review or an image you intend to keep. Compare the actual saved output at its intended display size; providers’ settings and rendering behavior are not interchangeable.

- Lazy-loaded images are missing: the page may fetch them only as they approach the viewport. Use the provider’s documented scroll-before-capture option where available, then capture the full page.
- Content has not finished rendering: dynamic pages may need more time. Add a suitable delay or supported wait condition, recognizing that longer waits add latency.
- The full-page layout looks different than expected: very long or complex pages can behave differently under full-page capture methods. Try the provider’s alternative full-page method if documented, and check whether the result is complete.
- The output is not JPEG: confirm you used the provider’s JPEG option—
format=jpegfor ScreenshotOne oroptions.type="jpeg"for Browserless—and save the response bytes rather than an error message or JSON response. - The request fails: check the URL, authentication value, endpoint, and request syntax against the provider’s current documentation. Keep credentials out of public pages and repositories.

Does changing a file extension convert a screenshot to JPEG?
No. Request JPEG output from the API; renaming PNG bytes to .jpg does not convert the image.
