To screenshot one part of a page with Microlink, pass a CSS selector in the screenshot element option. For example, #section-hero captures the matching element rather than the entire scrollable page. Use fullPage: true only when you want the whole page.
Capture one element with Microlink’s JavaScript SDK
Install the microlink.io package in your project, then call screenshot() with the page URL and an element CSS selector:

The documented CLI form expresses the same capture options in the URL:

Change it to a selector that matches your target, such as a chart, pricing table, or section. Microlink’s screenshot feature page illustrates element captures with charts and pricing tables.
Choose between an element, viewport, and full-page capture

Microlink documents that an element capture waits for the selected element to become visible. That does not necessarily mean all content inside it is finished rendering. For viewport or full-page captures, a separate readiness condition can be useful when the page is dynamic. Microlink explains these capture and wait options in its screenshot guide.

Make dynamic or lazy-loaded content ready before capture
If the target is present but its content loads later, or if it only appears after user action, prepare the page before capturing. The appropriate step depends on how the page works:
- Lazy-loaded section: scroll to the section to trigger loading, then wait for its content or a readiness selector.
- Hidden tab or panel: use the documented
clickautomation to reveal it before capture. - Page-level readiness: use
waitForSelectorwhen a selector signals that content is ready, or choose an appropriatewaitUntilpage-lifecycle condition. - Fixed-delay fallback: use
waitForTimeoutif there is no better readiness signal; a fixed delay can be less reliable when load times vary.
These are documented workflow options, not guarantees that every site or interaction will behave identically. Use the selector and readiness condition that correspond to the page’s actual DOM and loading behavior.
Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect element screenshot
The target is absent or the capture is not the component you expected
Check that the selector is valid for the destination page and uniquely identifies the intended target. Inspect the page’s DOM and confirm the target exists in the state being captured. A selector that works on one page or state may not match another.

The element is visible, but its contents are incomplete
Visibility of the selected element is different from readiness of all its dynamic contents. Add a separate selector or lifecycle wait for the content you need; for lazy loading, first scroll the target into view.
The target is behind a tab, menu, or other interaction
Make the target visible with a documented click before capturing. If it appears only after scrolling, scroll to it and allow its content to load.
The result contains the whole page or the wrong scope
Use element for one matched element. Use fullPage: true when the intended result is the complete scrollable page. The two options serve different capture scopes.

You used an extraction selector expecting an image
Microlink’s extraction API can select content to return as values, HTML, text, or Markdown. For a screenshot image, use the screenshot method with its element option instead. See the data extraction documentation for that separate workflow.
