A WebDriver click can return before JavaScript finishes updating the page, so the wait—not the click itself—should determine when the capture is ready.
Capture the page after a button click in Python
Use an explicit wait for a post-click condition that matches the page’s expected change. In this example, clicking a button reveals an element with the ID result-panel:

The 10-second timeout is an example, not a universal recommendation; choose a limit suited to the application and test environment. JavaScript may update the page asynchronously after the click command returns. Waiting for navigation readiness alone does not ensure that this application-specific change has completed. Selenium explicit waits poll a named condition until it succeeds or the timeout expires. Select a condition that describes the state you intend to capture:

- A new panel or element appears: wait for visibility, as in the example.
- Existing content changes: wait for the expected text or another condition that verifies the changed content.
- A loading overlay blocks the result: wait for the overlay to disappear before capturing.

A fixed sleep is usually a weaker choice: if it is too short, the screenshot can be premature; if it is too long, every run is slower than necessary. Selenium also warns against mixing implicit and explicit waits because the resulting timeout durations can be unpredictable. Use a condition-based wait for this capture instead.

Save a screenshot file or get PNG bytes
driver.save_screenshot("after-click.png") writes a PNG of the current window. If the next step needs the image in memory rather than a file, use driver.get_screenshot_as_png() after the same wait:
png_bytes = driver.get_screenshot_as_png()The documented screenshot API describes the current window. Do not assume this call produces one image of the entire scrollable page; full-page capture depends on the browser and capture method. See the Selenium WebDriver screenshot API.

Fix common click and capture failures
- The screenshot shows the old state: the wait may only verify something already true before the click. Wait for a condition tied to the change, such as the new text appearing or a previously hidden element becoming visible.
- The click is intercepted: Selenium clicks the element’s center. If another element covers that point, Selenium can report an element-click-intercepted error. Check for overlays or other covering content, then wait for it to clear or otherwise make the intended button interactable. See element interactions.
- The element is not interactable: Selenium attempts to scroll an out-of-view element into view and checks interactability, but a hidden or otherwise non-interactable element can still fail. Confirm that the locator identifies the intended button and that it is displayed and ready to be clicked; the interaction behavior is documented in the Selenium element interaction guide.
- The wait times out: the expected condition never became true within the chosen limit. Verify the locator, confirm what state the click actually produces, and wait for that state rather than a different or pre-existing element. Increase the timeout only if the application legitimately needs longer.

Yes. After the appropriate wait, call driver.get_screenshot_as_png() to receive PNG bytes.
