Capture a screenshot using a locale
This standalone Node.js example creates a context with the requested locale before opening the page:

What locale changes—and what it does not
Locale is a browser-emulation setting that can affect how a page detects the browser’s language and formats locale-sensitive content. It is separate from timezone emulation. A page’s actual language can also depend on its URL, application logic, saved preferences, cookies, or account state, so inspect the rendered screenshot rather than assuming the locale alone forces a translation.

Set timezone separately when needed
If the screenshot also needs local time behavior, configure timezoneId on the same context:

Configure locale in Playwright Test
For Playwright Test, set the locale in the test configuration’s use options, or override it for a project or individual test. For a one-test override:

Choose the screenshot output
By default, page.screenshot() captures the visible viewport. The filename extension determines the output type when you pass a path; Playwright documents PNG, JPEG, and WebP. Use options only when the default does not match the intended capture.

Make locale screenshots useful for visual tests
A correctly emulated locale and a repeatable screenshot are different requirements. Pixel output can vary with the host operating system, browser version, browser settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. For visual comparisons, run the baseline and later captures in the same environment, then verify that the target site actually rendered the expected language or regional content. Troubleshoot unexpected results
- The page still appears in another language: Locale emulates browser settings but does not force a site’s translation. Check whether the site uses a language-specific URL, saved consent or language preferences, account settings, or other application state.
- Dates or times do not match the target region: Set
timezoneIdseparately fromlocale; changing locale alone is not timezone emulation. - Screenshot is cropped at the viewport: Add
fullPage: trueif the goal is to capture the scrollable page, or useclipfor a specific region. - Visual tests differ between runs or machines: Keep the browser and execution environment consistent with the baseline, including browser version and headless mode where applicable.
- Output format is not what you expected: Check the filename extension and, if needed, set the screenshot
typeexplicitly.
