To capture a website at a mobile-width viewport with CaptureKit, send an authenticated GET request to https://api.capturekit.dev/v1/capture with the page’s full URL and an explicit viewport_width in CSS pixels. Set viewport_height as well if the visible vertical area matters. CaptureKit’s documented default width is 1280 pixels, so don’t rely on the default for a narrow capture.
Capture a custom mobile-width viewport
Get an API key from the CaptureKit dashboard, then pass it in the x-api-key header. Choose dimensions that match the browser viewport you want to reproduce; the dimensions below are illustrative, not a required phone size or a claim about a specific device model.

- Choose the target page’s complete URL and the desired viewport width in CSS pixels.
- Choose a viewport height if the visible vertical area is important.
- Request a format. PNG is the documented default; this example specifies it explicitly.
- Run the request and save the response as an image file.

These are distinct ways to set the capture environment. An arbitrary numeric width is not, by itself, an exact emulation of a particular phone model. Use a named preset when the documented profile is the target; use dimensions when the viewport size is what matters.

Decide whether to capture the viewport or the full page
full_page is separate from viewport width and defaults to false. Leave it off to capture the visible viewport, as in the example. Enable it deliberately when you need the entire page rather than only the initial screen. The endpoint also documents scroll-related behavior for loading lazy content during full-page captures.
Adjust format, waiting, and page cleanup
Output format and quality
CaptureKit documents PNG as the default and lists WebP, JPEG/JPG, and PDF as alternatives. The image_quality option is documented for supported lossy image formats. Choose based on how the image will be used: a lossless format can preserve fine interface details, while a lossy format may suit smaller image files. Confirm supported values in the current endpoint reference.

Wait for the page to render
For pages that render asynchronously, the endpoint lists wait_until choices including domcontentloaded, load, networkidle0, and networkidle2, as well as a delay and wait_for_selector. The appropriate choice depends on how the target page loads; no single setting guarantees that every site will be ready at the same point. Waiting longer can help a late-rendering element appear, but may also increase capture time.

If you need only part of a page, the docs list an element selector. They also list remove_selectors, remove_ads, resource blocking, and URL blocking. These options change what is captured or loaded; they are not necessary simply to set a mobile-width viewport.

Troubleshoot common capture problems
- The result is desktop-width: set
viewport_widthexplicitly. The documented default is 1280 pixels. - The top of the page is captured but lower content is missing: decide whether you want the visible viewport or the full page. Set
full_pagedeliberately; it defaults to false. - A component is absent or incomplete: the page may render it asynchronously. Try a suitable
wait_untiloption, a delay, orwait_for_selectorfor the element that needs to appear. - The output is not the desired file type: specify a documented
formatrather than assuming the default. PNG is the documented default; WebP, JPEG/JPG, and PDF are also listed. - The request is rejected as unauthenticated: verify that the API key is present in the
x-api-keyheader and that it is the key issued from your dashboard. - The capture does not match a specific device: use a supported named
devicepreset if you need that emulation. Custom width and height set dimensions, not an exact model identity.
